Either the VIP gets narced and/ or tagged by a light and shat on by a single LRM boat, or people set up ambush points across it's preset path and snipe it to hell with ERPPC and gauss shots.

And even if neither of those are available, there will be one or two lights that will just disengage from the main skirmish going on and go buttfuck that atlas to death.

Even if it's a stock atlas or one that has full armour + "quirks," it'll die before slower, better equipped mechs can get to it.

An arctic shitter pumps out 36 damage each alpha, it can do this thrice in a row before having to cool off.

A stock atlas has 28 rear CT armour, and 62 structure, with an added +31 structure from current quirks. That's a total of 121 hitpoints from the rear.

So an arctic cheetah needs to do 4 alpha strikes to kill the VIP if it's a stock atlas. Locust needs 5 and 1 extra small pulse laser shots to kill it off.

Something like a 12 c-SPL nova or stormcrow? Two alpha strikes and it's gone. Pakhet huntsman with the SRM 80 bomb? One and a half direct alpha strike hits to the CT rear.

GXP is shared between all mechs like now.

Regular XP is mech specific.

C-bills can be used to purchase skill nodes but at a slightly higher price than with XP.

Re-specialization costs c-bills, and then you have to re-purchase those previously bought skill nodes.

Re-specialization bought with MC allows you to retain those skill nodes and merely re-position them.

I still don't get why they just didn't make Clan LRM's direct fire only, as in they don't arc up to drop down, so that they have a reason to let them do damage under 180m. Apart from clans, being a mercenary provides the greatest gameplay AND story potential.

Clans don't employ mercenaries, and have a much smaller military, so they're able to somewhat share most mechs. There's still cases like nobody else but Clan Wolf would be able to pilot an Orion IIC, or outside of Smoke Jaguar the dire wolves and stormcrows would be really rare.

Trial mechs are perfectly functional (and you're lucky they are, they used to be stock when I started playing), so play them as much as you want. Once you have enough monies you can buy your first mech which should be a medium or heavy.

Blackjacks, Hunchbacks and their IIC version, Novas, Stormcrows, Catapults, Warhammers, Hellbringers, Ebon Jaguars, and Timberwolves are all acceptable first choice mechs.

The priority is reasonable cost, reasonable at making money, and can run more than 1 type of build between their variants.

It's worth it to play certain IS mechs. Catapults are bretty gud right now, especially the A1, C4, K2 variants, and the Butterbee and Jester heroes.

IS heavies like Warhammers, Marauders, Grasshoppers and Thunderbolts are great. Archers, Riflemen, Jagermechs and Quickdraws have their niche.

IS assaults like Battlemasters, Banshees and Cyclops are great, with Awesomes, Stalkers, King Crabs and Atlas having their niche.

What if, when a mech is stationary (or below like 10% of their speed), certain mechs can hit a button to raise their arms.

Mechs that have large weapons and have given up actuators in order to fit them (like the ppc pods on the warhammer) will not be able to, but if a mech has hands like an atlas, it can extend its arms to shoulder level.

Depends on the loadout and the quirks, but anywhere between 35 and 48% is good for most builds.

If you're shortrange and need to brawl things, being cooler is better.

If you have some hot weapons and some colder weapons (like a ballistic) then even if you're hot you can use only your colder weapon.

If you have significant heatgen quirks then you can go as low as 30% because smurfy doesn't include quirks in their heat calculations.

You need to either join a group that currently exists, or you can make your own group. If you do make your own you need to set yourself either as a loyalist for a particular faction or a mercenary. Make it the faction that you have mechs for though you can play trial mechs as well.

Once you do you pick a planet and do either scouting matches (4v4 with lights and mediums only) or invasion matches 12v12 with everyone bringing up to 4 mechs.

The head and the cockpit glass are all considered part of the CT, apart from a tiny square in the cockpit glass. That tiny square is then considered part of the cockpit/ head hitbox.

It's both a blessing and a curse, since while you don't get headcapped easily, head areas are generally all CT and thus torso twisting with prominent heads on a mech doesn't actually help you spread damage.

As for the electronics package, it gets a free sensor range boost (able to spot and lock onto targets from further away). For LRM builds this is nifty, as it coupled with a Sensor Range module allow you to see all the way to the maximum 1000m range of LRMs. It's also kinda neat to be able to spot anything without ECM within your field of view that's up to 1000 meters away as well.

Archer is... viable. Not good like Warhammers and Timbers wolves, but viable.

Personally my favourite LRM boat is the Tempest hero variant with 6x medium lasers and 2x LRM15's with Artemis. Enough backup weapons as not to be useless, and the LRMs themselves still have a purpose.

If you're set on getting Archers, the Tempest is a solid choice, able to pull off both Standard and XL engine laser vomit as well as Laser + SRM spam. The 2R is also real neat as a standard engine brawler with 6x medium pulses and 3x SRM6's. This as someone who got to rank 2 on the Archer variant leaderboard event for the -2R.

Your side torsos will be the bane of your existence, though.

Supernova is bad because of ghost heat and lack of engine capacity. Max engine rating of 325 with current speed tweak will only let it run at 62kph. That's really slow.

For example the SVN-1, it's lore build of 6x ERLL's, is unable to fire them effectively due to that excess heat buildup, and you end up spending nearly 5 seconds shooting just to cause 60 damage.

I've hypothesized that an XL315 and 6x c-LPL with a total of 24 double heatsinks build could be somewhat functional on it, but that remains to be tested.

Some variants will be serviceable, but it's essentially an energy oriented Highlander shaped like a nova with no jumpjets.

You don't need AMS on an ECM mech.

ECM makes you untargetable for enemy lock-ons already, and you'd just be wasting AMS ammunition on SRMs when you're most likely already actively dodging them.

As for the GRF-2N, you've got 2 options:

STD version is 4x SRM6's with 6 tons of ammunition, , STD275 engine with an extra heatsink in it and 2 jump jets.

Slower than XL version, but still fast enough to get where it wants to go and isn't instagibbed from side torso loss. You could alternatively go for SRM4's with or without artemis, getting extra heatsinks and medium lasers or flamers in the other arm.

XL version is 4x SRM4's with Artemis and 6 tons of ammunition , XL300 engine, 2x flamers, 1x Jump Jet and 4x extra Double Heatsinks.

Fast, hits hard, has decent enough cooling to keep you in the fight. Alternatively you could go for SRM6's without artemis for a bigger bang, but this means you'll have to be closer to your target in order to isolate a component.

I'm 33 years old, haven't cared about mecha in over a decade (Power Rangers and Transformers as a kid; a bit of Battletech tabletop, Front Mission, and a smidge of anime as a teenager), and suddenly I can't get enough of mecha.

I bought Bridagor, Earth Defense Force 4.1, and Transformers: Devastation on Steam. I downloaded some good ol' Front Mission ROMs and the English Super Robot Taisen ROMs, plus the J fan translation. I bought a bunch of Bandai Gundam figures from Amazon. I even went out and bought a Wii U and Xenosaga Chronicles X, for the sole purpose of playing it and getting Skells.

What is happening to me? Can people spontaneously turn into weebs? Have I been struck with 30-something 1980s Transformers nostalgia that's gone out of control?

Someone redpill me on all the best mecha games so I can buy them all. I know there's a list of some things in the OP, but I mean a shot in the arm of the very best shit for every console and in any genre.

Is it really that bad to trade one LPL for a Med and streaks? I feel like I'm running 95% of the Laser Vomit package, and 40% of the streak boat package. Have you ever actually watched most FPS? Outside of the sprinting added in recent years upper bodies are as stationary as MWO and sidestepping doesn't even exist, they just twist their legs to the side.

The reason the game doesn't do melee is that because of the way asynchronous networking works collision detection in online shooters is absolutely fucked and can only be worked around with either gigantic weapons like Armored Core or immersion breaking magic lunges to make positioning looser. Otherwise you get people running in circles randomly swinging at each other until one of them dies when their opponent looks like they're 3x too far away to hit them on their screen.

Yes they are usually almost always hitscan or invisible projectile attacks with a very short range. Only gimmick games with physics on their melee attacks differ.

The key here is that the MW series as a whole is missing melee EFFECTS, not the ability to simulate realistic melee combat. Even if punching is just a short-range gun with temporary change of hitbox, what existing gameplay effects might apply to the mech being hit is what matters the most. Maybe getting hit by melee shakes their screen the most out of any attack, maybe it forces a bit of torso turn / pitch following the direction of the component hit (eg. twist left if hit in left torso), maybe getting hit by a big mech in a small mech will roll to cause the small mech to fall. All of those things don't require physics simulations but greatly increase the depth of combat when two deathballs collide.

They already have an in-depth rewind system to account for collisions between mechs and for exactly what part was touched. The system for determining where a melee attack hits can piggyback on this.

No one does anything except blob up. Lances don't stay together ever. Or focus fire. Or actually glance at thei minimaps for some basic situational awareness and help their lancemates ever.

Heavys and assaults rarely ever push together and decide to play snipey camper instead. And no one ever helps out lights. Like ever. The guys scouting and ecming everything so we can target and kill stuff easy. And everyone gives no fucks and lets them die. And then they cry like little girls because they lose their ecm shields and ams shields and suddenly get missile nuked.

Bigger engines mean you accelerate, decelerate, and turn your torsos faster. You're able to react faster, and if you spin your mech when you get shot you can spread damage over your mech and not get a component blown out instantly like a scrub. the er ppc srm4x4 griffin looks sweet even with the xl engine in it.

the 300 is just too much engine, takes up way too much space, the 280 lets more ammo fit in like he said. and the ER PPC has no minimum range so it can still be used close in

everyone just say no to the er ppc because of the heat though.... so i just took the accepted wisdom and discounted ppc
