Noct strikes him down, but the darkness within Ardyn is near-endless and waits at the twilight boundary of life and death, not fully gone. Noctis takes in the power of kings and the entire crystal and ring, which is too much for a human to bear, and it plunges him right to the edge of death as well. So filled with limitless light power, he meets Ardyn (or at least the darkness now wearing Ardyn's face) and finally obliterates him with all the power he has. In so doing he has nothing left and dies himself.
This purges the world of darkness and the daemon blight, allowing the sun to rise again, so the world may be reclaimed by the people.
Noctis' ghost and Lunafreya look at the last photograph and fall into eternal slumber. Falling asleep is a recurring theme of FFXV.
