Pretty well anything that suits your fancy. My main problem with Sab. is that it has some of the shittiest defensive options of any ascendancy, so I tend to go Trickster to make up for that.

There are 4 damage types in PoE, each being mutually exclusive with the others, so any given damage increase for any would not apply to the others, unless explicitly stated. For example, spell damage applies to DoT for Essence Drain, Contagion, Vortex, Blight, Scorching Ray.

Blade Flurry more damage per stage does not "double dip", not more than Earthquake's aftershock does. It does exactly what it says, more (attack) damage per stage, it cannot affect any DoT resulting from the attack.

You know what's consistent? Mechanics. If damage over time works a certain way, it will always work that certain way, unless exceptions are made, such as the cases of spells like ED. Unless that exception is explicitly stated ("Modifiers to Spell Damage apply to this skill's Damage Over Time"), you just assume it works the regular old way. This isn't a new case either, as I said it never double dipped for EQ either, it just happens to be a pseudo double-dipping if you include bleeding and Vulnerability. BF's more damage double dipping on poison would make it an even more monstrous skill and it really doesn't need any more damage scaling.

The precedent is that damage sources ALWAYS worked that way. That's why EXCEPTIONS have to be explicitly stated. If EQ/BF's attack damage also applied to DoT, it would be made very clear, the same way it is made very clear for ED, Vortex, and so on. Those are not exceptions, the rule is that a modifier to a damage source can never apply to another different damage source unless explicitly stated. So elemental/fire damage can double dip on ignite, and generic damage modifiers (Berserker's Aspect of Carnage, Frenzy charges, and so on) can double dip, precisely because they're not restricted to one given damage source.

BF's more damage is implicitly attack damage thus can never apply to DoT. It's a property of the skill rather than a stat your character has as a Berserker or while having frenzy charges.

marauder can get up to 42% fire res from his jewel radius although it doesn't seem really all that useful for something like a juggernaut/chieftain which already gets plenty of end charges easily, scion is 2nd best spot and is extremely good for any caster solely for the end charges on kill and extra 10% block

99% of the time, however, Oak's 40 Life is better than Alira's 60 Mana for anything Life-Based.
If you're going CI or Low-life, a Skill Point is still usually better than 60 Mana.

Cruel, 24% Increased Phys is meh unless you don't get much of it, the Attack Speed same boat, and same for Cast Speed.

Merciless works a bit differently. There's no upper threshold for when Charges stop being as useful as Inc. Phys/Attack/Cast Speed. They provide continuously good bonuses in higher total amounts. With Oak's Endurance Charge on a Juggernaut, you can legitimately hit 10 Endurance Charges (40% Resist and 40% Phys Reduction) with ease and it provides an insanely powerful defensive layer.
