Someone want to tell me what's going on?

First game of EU4, I've conquered Bungo and won the siege and now I'm looking to fully own the only province they owned. However I still have 0 warscore since their ally is blockading my port in Satsuma and that is apparently worth 23 warscore points against me while owning all of the land they ever touched only grants me one. I disbanded my navy at the outset of the game to cut down on upkeep and focus solely on army buildup. So is this checkmate?

You can try wasting your national focus on increasing the party loyalty of a third party. There's no way to lower party loyalty manually by big numbers, which are what the Switzerland and the nations I mentioned have, so that's pretty much all I can think of.

The scramble for africa doesn't really work. I think it's something HPM will be looking to address some time in the future. Unless you intentionally limit your blobbing, you take Nigeria, Zanzibar, sphere Egypt and you colonise everything.

There's a railroaded event that gives Sweden the Congo in nearly every game, which is probably the future for the partition of Africa.

In terms of resources, you're might better colonising in Indonesia. As Germany you don't need the soldier pops and Indonesia/SEA have more consolidated valuable resources.

What you suggest would be believable since there really was no way to actively prevent raids when they could land wherever the fuck they wanted. The most you could do was station some troops near some villages to make it harder for the Vikings to pull off a raid, ie reduce their raiding efficiency. It wasn't until troops became more plentiful and defensive plans and fortifications became more sophisticated that raiding became not worth their time.

Piracy too was a matter of "sail around a seazone where you last heard they were roaming and hope you run into them". This could be better modelled as a small chance to trigger a naval battle with a spawned pirate fleet rather than the current dickwaving with an unkillable one.
