On my first playthrough I depended on Dalton greatly for any situation, but in that one chapter with all the mountains in the mid-game, forget the number, his 20 Build and inability to cross over a certain part of the map on an Escape chapter forced me to say goodbye to him.

I wish the hosidan counterparts to the weapons worked more differently the the classic versions, like more than just alterations to mt/hit values and measly stat boosts. clubs having higher crit was a step in the right direction, but not far enough. say, daggers/shurikens dealing substantially different kinds of stat effects (they might already, I don't even look because the defensive debuff is like the only part that's actually made enough of a difference to catch my attention).

Shit like that man, I dunno, too often I feel like the choice to arm with axe/kanabo etc. too often comes down to which I think is cooler or which has not-half-assed animations, aesthetical shit that fire emblem ain't really about.

I feel like these games should have some more functional differentiation between the different elements, especially if they're going to have a tome for each at every tier like awakening did. otherwise the choice of which kind to put in a character's hands came down to little more than aesthetical taste, particularly without any kind of elemental affinity system as I seem to recall a few earlier games having.

Example, lightning tomes as a rule have hit+20/crit+10 against armored foes, fire magic having greater range in exchange for poorer hit or mt values, whichever you prefer. wind magic having bonus flier damage and crazy hit was a step in the right direction here.

Fuck it, ice tomes that shave of a tile of movement range for the next turn in exchange for poor hit values.

I just feel like magic should have a bigger presence since it has it's own stats for damage calculations.

I actually fully agree with you, the weapons felt half assed this time. I noticed what you meant with choosing over aesthetic which shouldn't be the case. Swords for Hoshidian katana could have 1-2 range focused while having very low my. Knives could have a chance to proc freeze, nagaintas could have the highest hit compared Lance's, yumis could have had a longer range for all bows because I think yumi bows were known for their range, and scrolls could have highest Mt and add in light magic. Also scrolls could have a physical version. I don't know how they could balance Nohrian weapons if they go that route but I do want to see a difference too.
