The robotic hivemind that hollowed out one of the Purple Guys and wore them as a skinsuit is also possessed by the ghost of William's daughter.

Small theory:
if we consider Michael to be the protagonist of SL and becoming the purple guy it doesn't make sense for him to walk around people in such a form, especially when there is not much inside him to walk with.
If you look at how Ennard look when it comes out of him, it's a bunch of metallic wires with eyes. However, Ennard has a skeleton, and it can be assumed to be inside Michael.
My theory is that Purple Guy kept a good part of Ennard inside, haunting his part of the entity.
The reason why he would kill can be assumed to be as a way to maintain his body in a presentable state, replacing tissues with others.

The robots' hostility and apparent fear, going by how Baby has to convince Ballora that "he's here to help" and isn't going to hurt her would also indicate this. Additionally, Springtrap hasn't been able to talk in the series. He's been able to eke out hisses and moans but not to speak full on sentences. The inclusion of voice acting is very relevant to Sister Location's story, as these Afton-built robots are the first to be actually talking to you directly. Mike's sudden voice distortion probably means that he has some robotic parts in him, likely whatever kept him from dying when he got scooped. Just like how Ballora was still around when she got scooped. The game seems to be boiling towards a confrontation between the two Aftons.

Just to play devil's advocate, even if Mike the night guard from FNAF 1 is talking, the whole "They mistook me for you" thing could purely be referring to how the animatronics were trying to kill him in the original game. So I guess it's technically possible that the voiceover in the cutscene could be Mike and the reason we see springtrap is because Mike is trying to track him down, and the whole "I should be dead" spiel is actually about some event we have yet to find out about, or even just a melodramatic reference to the events of the first game.

Anything along these lines would mean the cutscene was misleading as fuck, but that would hardly be anything new with Scott. On the bright side, it'd unfuck the lore from what the new stuff seems to be implying and then I could try to be optimistic that the appearance of Mike and Springtrap means the next game is shifting back towards the relatively grounded first three games.

That actually has me thinking. What if that ending was purposely misleading? We are actually hearing this from Mike's perspective on what he has to do. The whole "should be dead" thing could be referencing about how he thinks that he should have died at his shift at Freedys, not from being scooped or being springlocked. When the ghosts "mistook" Mike for William it was when he was doing the night shift, not the ghosts mistaking him for purple during the minigames in Fnaf 3's end of night segments. He then decides to go to Fazbear's Fright to find and end his father. Meaning that the only revelation the trailer did was reveal that Mike was William's son.
Or perhaps that is this is borrowing some themes from the book, Mike is the brother of Charlotte, meaning that he is telling his father in the cut scene that he is going to find Purple Guy and put an end to him, still possibly confirming that Mike was the guard in Fnaf 3 and that Mike set the place on fire to end Springtrap after he set the spirits of the kids free.

Personally I've always preferred the design of the Withered Bots, especially their pre-Withered looks. And I'm likely one of only two or three here who really likes the Nightmare Bots. Sister Bots are also high on my list.

Phantoms, except for Foxy, are the worst of the bunch, imo. Aside from doing nothing of importance they contributed nothing to the story since the kids were long since departed before FNAF 3 and Night 5 in SL showed that only one animatronic stalking you works perfectly without needing a bunch of ghost bots to mess up your mojo.

the withered and original style bots are excellent in the way that they look like something someone really trying to design fun kids characters would make, made horrifying by the constraints of making the damn things move both on a tiny budget and with pseudo-70s/80s robotics, combined with their menacing posturessidelong, lidded gazes or direct stares/eyebrows moved into a frowing angle more often. in the daytime clip in the trailer for the first game they don't feel threatening at all, despite being the same 3D models, which is how it should be. the withered designs feel like they'd be the same way, if you un-withered them and put them somewhere well-lit.

the toy bots are very on-point for 80s style character redesigns. while they (and toy fred in particular) aren't very scary, that works perfectly well in how they fit in to what's going on.

the nightmare bots are great as renditions of what would haunt a little kid's nightmares, so they're excellent design in terms of what they're meant to be, but as an adult the proportions and spikes all over just come across as goofy tryhard crud. the intent they convey during gameplay is still scary, but it's in spite of their appearance more than anything.

While I agree that the story and location of SL is pretty damn goofy, the opening face robots are very unsettling to me.

The cold and sterile look of SL also gets under my skin nicely. I've had a fear of hospitals/dentists offices since I was a little kid, and the uniform colors, cold metal and eerie "future" style of SL is suitably unnerving for me.
