Third Age MOS campaign, playing as Gondor VH campaign/H battle difficulty because I haven't played M2 in a long time.
Quickly going through my game plan.
1. Lowered tax levels in all cities to low
2. Built Land Clearances (level one farms) everywhere I could with the exception of a mine in Dol Amroth.
3. Send garrison troops from nearby settlements to Pelagir since baddies can cross the river there (Notice the ship blocking another crossing in pic)
4. Take Eastern Osgiliath back from Sauron

It is a Vampire LL though, the actual FLC chart has a Mortis Engine in it. Mousillon as a playable sub-faction is a pretty good guess imho. But yeah always keep your hype down until its confirmed.

celts are gorrila warfare experts.
slavs have unique victory conditions that revolve around building 'wonders' and can recolonize ruined settlements for free. they are the "anti-hun", building instead of destroying.
longbeards have pretty good unit diversity, but no special features (except that both the longbeards and celts have unique event chains that give them a special custom general unit, which is neat).
empires of sand has great unit diversity, lets you play as jews, and a special horde faction that can raise free units from raiding. well recommended.
vikings were just preorder bait. there are plenty of barbarian raider factions in the game already, saxons also use the nordic roster, and these factions have nothing in the way of unique features. not recommended.

the last roman has five playable factions in theory, but you're clearly intended to play as the roman expedition. if you are a fan of romans this is a very different experience from the roman factions in the grand campaign, giving you the chance to start from the position of a small, mobile roman "horde" instead of a bloated empire. otherwise you can give it a miss.

age of charlemagne is worth getting if you want a more conventional empire-building experience than the grand campaign. in some respects it's a little simplified, which may or may not suit your tastes.

after noticing that the Mughals are about to be overrun I broke my trade agreement with them and invaded, despite my failure to sign a peace treaty with the Ottomans, the good news is that its going to be extremely easy to conquer Mughals, the bad news is that they are allied with the Brits who also joined to fight me

hopefully they won't go after my trade fleets as those are extremely vulnerable, and trade is my main source of income since my taxes are set at the minimum

I love Call of Warhammer, but it really is not the same thing.

It's pretty good since it uses MII as a base, but it still suffers the issue where I'm playing factions that look different visually but they all still feel the same just with a different coat of paint. I'm not sure if that's just me or not, but that was my impression after playing it for a long time before Warhammer was announced.

And having more than one wall is kind of meaningless when the AI is too retarded when navigating through those walls.

I'll give you the formations though, I hope they incorporate those later on. It feels like a shame to be lacking those honestly. Since that is one point I feel they can diverge from the TT a bit to make combat more interesting.

Source? Also the Darklands and Araby are already modeled in game. I don't have the screenshots still but the coastlines are fully fleshed out, so technically it wouldn't be a map expansion. It's all already there.

And another counter point is that they're adding land/territory with the upcoming WElf DLC in the form of Athel Loren. There's no reason to assume the above mentioned would need to be any different.

Plus it makes no sense for Tomb Kings to be in that foursome. Lizardmen wont be missing their main antagonist.

Playing darthmod here so things might be different in other mods/vanilla, but the thing with empire is that sometimes the AI just stubbornly tries to get a region, and diplomacy be damned. Like, try getting a hold of vienna. Two factions attacked me one turn later, breaking all diplomatic ties they had with me. After losing some battles they accept peace but DOW again some turns later. This happens in other TW games but in Empire I notice it much more.

So the thing is, you need to understand what's the region that the AI wants and give it away in exchange for gold/tech/trade/whatever.

There are no Tolkienian "good guy" elves in Warhammer, the elves don't care one bit for the fate of other races, they consider the humans as animals, and everything they taught them in the past, was to prop them up for their defence against any threats.

The High Elves consider human lives no
more valuable than Wood or Dark Elves do, perhaps less so since they don't employ slave labour.

At one point in time a High Elven Admiral followed a group of human pirates to the port of Marienburg and destroyed the entire city, killing civillians and criminals alike with military precision which would impress any Druchii, the only difference would be that the Asur didn't do it out of joy or depravity, but simply as a punishment for petty piracy.

Warhammer Elves care about themselves first and foremost, anyone else is either an enemy or an useful idiot.

I believe that it is typically separated as Order/Disorder rather than with Chaos, since you know, one of the factions is called Chaos. Not to mention it is surprisingly organized at times considering the name.

But this isn't 40k, where the whole point is that every faction is a lighter shade of black. Fantasy makes it pretty clear that while faction like the Empire do some shitty things on occasion, they are still the good guys. Plus the Lizardmen are pretty much straight good guys.

I last tried Gondor years ago - but any javelinmen you can get. You need to constantly be recruiting them.

Pelargir marines and Gondor light cavalry. They're absolutely critical for troll and mumakil disposal. Pin them with something cheap, and let the marines do the killing. It's the only way you can hope to hold them back.

Gobbo spears can hold on plenty long enough, make sure their line is bolstered by monsters and your lord + heroes giving leadership at different points. Night Goblins and Skulkers either on the flanks or hitting enemies that need poison/AP damage.

Gobbo archers can put out a pretty large volume of fire, and will destroy un armored skirmishers if you focus fire. Wolf rides are much faster, but squigs have a really good punch + AP damage. Hit the weak enemies first with cav to create routs and encourage your army.

It's been a bit of an issue with a few Legendary Lords in the past where it would make sense for them to have quest battles against certain races that aren't in the game yet. So they had to contrive some reasons for them to face off against a different one.

Same reason Beastmen had to come before Wood Elves too I suppose (aside from them being the easiest to implement).

Yeah, probably worth relocating the siege workshop.

Even if you take it up to gunpowder unit level, you're not going to get much benefit out if it at a blacksmith province.

If you capture a crafters and plan on getting matchlocks, I'd go there - but mangonel's are so horribly inaccurate that gold accuracy doesn't really do anything meaningful. The matchlocks you'd recruit in such a province will make themselves worth it in a siege though.

I dunno. I always went attack and it worked out well.

Armour in S2 mostly works in regards to missile fire, not melee combat. Melee attack is directly related to melee combat.

Higher melee attack means faster killing, which means less casualties, which also means more experience. Armour just means that your units take less losses in the run up prior to engagement (it assumes you're losing/lost the skirmish phase). It doesn't have the same degree of impact in melee. I always just go heavy on range, force my way to a skirmish win, and then have infantry leagues ahead of my opponent in skill, both melee attack and experience wise.

How do you reliably compare units with different sizes? It seems like if you calculate the damage over the entire the 120man goblin spears have a better potential damage output than the 60man black orcs. You can talk about how many soldiers are capable of fighting in the front and how many are just waiting for their turn in the back ranks, but then with archers every soldier fires regardless.

with ranged it is a pretty standard dps calculation of number of shooters*damage/rate of fire so usually the bigger unit size wins, although in shogun 2 the smaller sized samurai bows were better due to rate of fire and accuracy. it also depends a bit on what you want them for, because a million arrows that do 1 damage will never kill high armor units, so sometimes you need to sacrifice raw dps for the ability to kill something tanky.


big disclaimer here because I don't know and am just making assumptions based on my experiences. with melee it is a lot harder because there are a billion things to go into it, like who got the better charge and who is spread out better and all that, but in the end I just usally go with whoever breaks first, and that is usually the bigger size one because the same percentage loss of troops translates into more actual deaths, so a 60 man unit can still fight down to 10 men before breaking, but goblins usually break at 60-70 due to their lower morale and that even though there are still half of them, both units still lost a

There's no reason why Daemons would make a 4 faction expansion, they combined have a fairly small roster. There's about 5 units for each God barring End Times (which gave Nurgle 3 units) so they'd only be ONE faction by the current standard. Also if the expansions add LAND then why Daemons when the chaos wastes are virtually in the game already and need barely anything to join with Naggaroth?

Also a lot of the DLC so far has been LL focused so its likely we'll get maybe 3 more faction DLCS and many more lords. Skaven make sense as a DLC so they aren't tied to either game and probably chaos dwarfs. Tomb Kings could also be.

No, melee units don't attack from barricades, but they are dropped straight in to position to block the enemy once it breaks which is nice.

Even the cheapest and most useless javelin unit can get three, four, or even five hundred kills if you toggle fire only when the AI is piling in to the barricade. They fire at point blank and quite literally cannot miss. As long as there are bodies to hit, every single projectile thrown will result in a kill. You'll wipe out entire units in two volleys.
