How important is progress in tartarus? I'm having trouble making headway, as junpei and yukari seem to like taking turns being tired. I'm on floor 5 right now.

Always try to reach the highest floor available before a full moon, and don't worry, you have plenty of time to do it. As you keep progressing you will be able to do it in a single night.

I wouldn't recommend exploring Tartarus so early in the game with only two people, leave that until you have better Personas and items. As you progress, people will take longer to get tired.

Another protip is that you should NEVER explore Tartarus while you're tired, since you'll do a piss poor performance and it is easier for enemies to crit you.

You always explore the dungeon at night, so it's not like it affects your schedules or anything. And whenever you don't go to Tartarus you can study to boost academics, or sleep early for better chances of recovering from fatigue/sickness.

The important thing to remember is that smirk is bullshit and SMT4 is random bullshit the game.

The other thing is that buffs and debuffs stack -3 to +3 and don't wear off. Many fights are buff wars with a side of combat late game.

Another thing, one demon in the area will evolve into something immune to every attack Medusa does. I forget what though and that takes one or so more levels than is "natural". So you might need to knock heads around there.

Finally Medusa is the last hard boss in the game.

Is Apocalypse much more difficult than 4 or am I just playing badly? Playing on War, and am on King Frost. Even though I'm level 13 with about 50 points in magic, my Agi only does a modest amount of damage. Can't outrace him in damage, and the damage he does with the smirk + Mabufula is too much to heal, even when using Navarre to buff. The only thing I can think to do differently was that I had a demon with a skill to remove smirk, but I got rid of it because I thought it was worthless. This seems to be much harder than 4's opening, and not just due to random chance.

This is an awful strategy though, because tired party members (including your MC) are useless and vulnerable. You might as well go back to the main floor and invite other members of the team even if they are underleveled. Since even them have better chances of survival than a tired party member.

Magaon will stay relevant for the same reason buff cancelling will always stay relevant. Smirks will continue to create free crit + press turns for enemies leading to high chance of getting fucked. On a particular late-game bossfight, I would say that the reason I lost my first attempt was because I did not have enough MP at one point to cast Magaon.

I'm not going to say that you should always make sure to have it with you or anything, like you gotta track that shit down in all cases, but it absolutely has value as a skill.

Of course smirks will be a problem when an enemy has them, but how many enemies can consistently smirk as easy as casting a spell on themselves? It's not the same as having debuff skills since they can be used consistently in every fight.

Demons can gain smirk through combat initiative, player hitting a resistance, picking some options in boss fights and I'm pretty sure Smile Charge shows up on random enemies every so often.

Granted if they get smirk through combat initiative there's probably nothing the player can do about that before they use it, unless they use another buff skill or something. But that would also be a situation that has "oh shit" written all over it.

Also even if the plan is to bring demons that aren't weak to the boss that can require either prior knowledge, multiple attempts, or a lot of shuffling around for each phase and as you reveal more of their skill list. Plus even after all that a critical hit can just cause one naturally.

A smirk doesn't always equal death, of course, and not every smirk would justify using magaon if you even had it, but if you try and bring it periodically you'll probably find a use.

In 4A, Magaon is a gear check for two fights, the first boss and the final boss. Nowhere else is it hugely useful as no other boss has a smirk-themed gimmick.

That said, if you hold onto it, you will not regret having it in the rare times you could use it.

There are a lot of gimmick bosses this time around rather than SMT4 style RNG smirkfests that die in three turns but those two are the only walls.

Hi, /smtg/. I have a problem that's not directly related to Megaten games/manga, but I don't think /v/ or /pg/ know enough about Megaten to help me out.

I know that this is going to sound incredibly autistic, but I cannot function in social settings unless I imagine myself as a Megaten character. No, I don't go around saying "Hee-ho!" or try to summon demons or anything. I just feel myself with the overall demeanor of a Megaten character. I can pass off as a normie well with this.

I choose Megaten characters that already compliment my personality. My main 3 are Demi-fiend (When I'm feeling quiet but confident), YHVH (When I'm feeling a bit smug/cocky) and Nanashi (When I'm feeling a bit edgy). I also have a rotating list of Megaten characters that I can use. I've done Jack Frost, Yuriko, Metatron, Magatsu-Izanagi, Oni, Angel, etc...

But my problem is, I have a Christmas party with my co-workers tonight, and I'm not sure which Megaten character I should be. I want to be a bit more outgoing and talkative than usual, but not TOO much. I had a bad experience with Mastema this spring, when I got a bit TOO confident, so I don't want to use him. I'd like to try a SMTIV:FINAL character, but I'm not sure which once. I like Cleopatra, but I feel like she would make me come across as an autist. I was actually thinking about Raidou, but his chances of being in a new game hurts her a bit.

Do you guys have any ideas for a Megaten character that would be sociable and confident, but not too much so?
