The lesson in general is to never spam, but especially don't spam into someone who has a caestus out. Fist weapons have the quickest start up in the game for parrying. They're matched by parry shields but parry shields have a much longer recovery time so they're easier to punish.

Memory is cheap, anon. Get some extra space and you can record everything in PvP without having to worry, separated by start and stop times. Then when you're done for the day you can look over them and decide which ones to keep and which to delete.

The thing is, people have been complaining about BB for lacking replayability. But compared to DS3, BB is fresh in both content and ingenuity that people will go back and be amazed by all the small detail they added in the game after playing it a second or third time while DS3 lacks any initiative to go back because the whole game has been deciphered. Those who believe it's rushed and full of cut content makes the game feel all the wrapped to be forgotten. Once you go to NG+ and realize not even the difficulty has changed then you quit after less than 20 minutes by being burnt out. Nothing new to find out and going through the same routine without reward, it's turns into a chore to unlock every area and vendor.

Right now my best options have always been either normal, heavy, sharp or refined in terms of damage, with very little disparity for the moment between all of those, with a mixture of investment into strength/dex leaning more towards strength at the moment.

Refined definitely looks like the best option for later on. I just like to give elemental stuff a fair shake because I've always defaulted to split damage = bad.
