So I'm trying to downgrade my buddy's 11.2 n3ds with my luma'd 3ds, got to the system transfer and despite confirming the dsiware transfer -- neither steeldiver or exidia transfered over. Was I supposed to transfer my sd card over to his?
Either way, I think I pretty much have to wait two weeks to give this another go now...

Need some help on Step 10 in https://3ds.guide/9.2.0-downgrade. It says to delete the Home Menu extdata for my region, but I have two 32 Character ID folders. Do I just delete the extdata in both folders or how do I know which one is the right one?

I want to move from rxtools to superior Luma then install al9h but I have some questions:

That causes troubles with FBI injection. Since you already have an emunand it shouldn't be an issue, but the troubleshooting guide gives instructions anyway.

Not sure off the top of my head but you should be able to download them with 3DNUS. AGB_FIRM too.

Just follow the a9lh + Luma guide like you were installing for the first time, at the end you can clean up and it tells you what to keep.

After following that guide you won't have or need a boot manager.

Yes, system transfer doesn't affect whether a console has a9lh or not.

I'd switch to a9lh + 11.2 sysnand on the first console, then system transfer so you can do the DSiWare downgrade method for the target console

The difference between a dreamcast and a xbox360 is in the dvd drive firmware for the most part, because the copies one could make would have their data shuffled around a little to be physically possible to even burn the discs the firmware had to be modified to accomodate this, the anti piracy features were nullified and it was made more lenient about disc errors, it was still a little snitch for the most part due to imperfections in the data, which is why we had to obtain the security sectors and such from the repo.
You didn't so much hack the console as the drive it trusted to handle this business, the flaw was in what was pretty much a third party component.

Even older an example of that is a form of copy protection on floppies that read the data in a rather fucked up manner, I'm just a bit too young to know those days but i imagine simply imaging the floppy was off the table.

The gist of the trick was the files were specially written to the floppy, you had fragments strategically placed across the disc so the entire thing was more of a fancy binary pattern than a list of files to write. To a pc it's just files but the game read from the disc in a manner that didn't so much ask for a file but instead a specific part of the drive. Naturally if you've just copied shit from the disc to a new one it would clone the files, you've violated the ordering of the data, useless.

When you injected FBI, did you not install the FBI CIA at the same time? I think the guide tells you to do that. That way you don't need to touch the H&S app injection and should have a seperate app for FBI on your home menu.

Also FBI does have a QR option, so you don't always need to transfer with SD card in PC.

In terms of mario maker stage sharing we could get away with using homepass really, otherwise perhaps just a small homebrew with the means to extract and inject course files, we seems to have a grand total of 221 possible courses, some of which are used for existing stuff.

Structure differs somewhat from the wiiu version but a converter could be possible with more research, can't expect full compatability though.
Future research will require courses made by others and examinations of files sent over local play and streetpass.
All in all, should be pretty damn easy barring some yet unseen protective measure.

each corse is broken into two parts - the header, and the body

the header contains the obvious information if this is a level or not - but i haven't tried to figure out what else it contains

the body contains each block that is assigned a value. If the course is unused the body is completely blank (0).

placing a single block via a hex editor, loading up the level, and seeing where it is should be enough to figure how the blocks are actually mapped.

Anyway i'm a sysadmin so to be blunt i absolutely don't know any languages that i could create a program to make mario levels on the computer - but i could still easily make a webapp for creating levels.

I don't know if there are people actually working on this but for what it's worth i'll do a write up on it this weekend if i don't see any effort being put towards it

Yes, the transfer process by nintendo if you choose to "use a PC for help" packs the DSiware data into seperate folder (that is still encrypted console specifically surely) in the Nintendo 3DS folder, and once tranfer is being finalized on the receiving console it will search for the data and install it to the system storage appropriately from the SD.
