I honestly think that the arcane damage was added on to BoM/BB specifically to make them unusable for Arcane builds, because they wanted BB/BoM to be for Skill only. The only notable thing it does is make them non-convertible. I mean, I guess it also makes +%phys/+flat arc usable on them, but you're still gonna put them on a Skill build when doing that.

Arcane does very little for BoM. You get ~1/3rd as much AR from scaling per point of Arcane as you do Skill without gems, and any +%phys will only compound that difference. Then on top of that, because the base arcane AR is so low, any increase in arcane AR is worth less than an equivalent increase in physical AR, due to how defense works. In short, going from 60 AR to 100 AR will net a lower increase in damage than going from 200 AR to 240 AR would.

The only reason to go Skill/Arc is if you want to use BoM/BB and also want to use hunter tools, and cannot stand the idea of making two separate builds. There is nothing in the game that scales well with both Skill and Arcane at the same time.

I never got a sense of regret from their theme, it always seemed like one of cosmic awe, being based off of Mars, Bringer of War. I feel like the Living Failures were the first semi-successful attempts at Kin, creating Celestial Emissaries to commune with the cosmos, but they were only one-way devices, letting the cosmos in, but not us out. They were humanity's first real taste of cosmic power and what eldritch tampering could do, hence the cosmic awe of the vocals when they summon the meteors. Fantastic theme regardless, easily one of my favourites.

I never see 'Of the Pthumerian Line' mentioned, Pthumerian Descendant/Elder's themes, probably because it's covered up by all the HMPHing, but it's a great theme, vert menacing, lots of strings. A sense of decadent or corrupt royalty and looming spookiness.

It's not hard to do that.

Literally just back off. If you time it that close and you're out of range anyway, the parry'll go off and you won't get grabbed. You don't need to be in their nuts to parry them.

Either fix your timing or dash backwards once and effectively increase the parry window.

So I don't know if anyone still wants to discuss BB lore at all, but can we say that Lawrence is a tragic hero in this all?

He tried his very best to fix everything and ended up getting his intentions screwed up. Wilhelm is kind of a dick by getting the whole cosmos thing involved, and I really don't see the Moon Presence as anything more than a force of nature.

Laurence is the main antagonist of BB. He betrayed Provost Willem and the entirety of Byrgenwerth, stole forbidden blood, and created the Healing Church for little reason other than thinking his path was the right one.

Most of the bad shit in game can be traced directly back to Laurence. The beast plague? Direct result of him offering blood transfusion. The horrors in The Orphanage and the Hidden Village? They're both the homes of the upper echelons of the Healing Church. Everything is Laurence's fault.

Beat the game (somewhat) blind. Only really used the wiki if I was absolutely lost or saw something that obviously had a hidden aspect to it ( like using the make contact emote on mother brain )

The bosses are easier than souls, mobs are harder. After playing with the noob crutch saw spear every other weapon feels too slow for me now unfortunately. First playthrough was Skill, about to start a Strength play through. I completely missed the DLC, no way I want to experience that in NG+ my first time around. Base game was difficult enough as it is.

Only just barely made it through one playthrough of endless screaming and shit music before going back to Pokemon. Sure the other souls games are just as yelly but this game has so many boner-killing issues that it seems so much worse.

Having to farm for estus in this one is fucking stupid. Why they'd try out something new that sounds bad even on paper is just absurd.

Whoever made that fucking bird thing the final boss and let you wander around like there was something more after that is a fucking hack (it was probably miyazaki). Like, are you just supposed to go backtrack through old areas looking for little side areas and then just trigger the ending once you feel like it? What kind of epic grand finale is that? Even DS2 had a more interesting ending than that - you beat the boss, you're shown the ending and you get some epic poetry to go with it. In this game you walk up to the guy in the wheelchair that doesn't have anything to do with anything and he just kills you and that's it.

And that's all without mentioning the key items that don't do shit, like that chalice, or the stone some dude in a house gave me, or that key in the fucked up city with the mimics that shoot at you that doesn't open fucking anything. This game is just so blatantly unfinished, and in ways far worse than any of that 6 weapons memery. Do these things that sound important only work if you drop another $30 on the DLC or some shit?

How the hell can people be so fanatical about this? It sure can't be because of the story since you barely have any idea what you're doing or what any of these fags in top hats are doing here (there isn't even an explanation for why you respawn which all the other souls games and Nioh have), or the gameplay since only like half the weapons feel any more badass than any of the fucking longswords in DS3. What kind of mindset do you have to enjoy this so much that you'd play it over and over, let alone maintain a fucking general about it?

I am giving BB a try after so long playing Dark Souls and just have a quick question.

I want to use the Holy Moonlight Sword however I understand this is quite a late game weapon and is based on Arc/Str/Skl

you can use the saw cleaver with base stats because it shreds the whole fucking game, but for an hmls build the base line is 25/25/25, so you can grab 25/25 str/skl first for the saw cleaver before landing the hmls and then pump arc
for a finished build if you're looking to pvp or just stop at a certain level to not feel like an unspecialized goober you will take that 25/25/25 and raise either str or arc to 50

Best spread for the HMLS is 50STR/25SKL/25ARC

Cleaver scales primarily with Strength, so leveling that as a standby is fine. The cleaver is also one of the best two weapons in the game, losing out only to the Saw Spear.

You can also rush the HMLS if you're good. The boss you get it from can be the fourth boss you fight.

HMLS is weird. Long story short is that the untricked standard sword mode scales almost entirely with STR, the tricked glowy sword mode scales with a mix of STR and ARC, and the actual moonbeam projectiles scale primarily with ARC.

That being said, most melee attacks get more out of STR than ARC, with a few attacks swinging more on the ARC side of thing due to modifiers.

Basically, run STR if you want to be able to use the normal form at all, and if you want to use the sword at its most effective in melee. Level ARC if you want your moonbeams to have some extra kick and you're okay with sacrificing some raw damage on the rest of the sword.

I actually get really high AR on the normal sword mode with 25/25/50 and nourishing gems. I think if I made the build more str oriented it gives me ~36 or so AR according to mugenmonkey, but the 50 arc makes tools really good and moonbeams hit for around 400 uncharged iirc on players.
