The thread is dedicated to all games about building machines and systems out of blocks, in space or otherwise. Also, all these games are ded. Only ded games may join, otherwise they must have their own thread.

WebM for retards:
>gitgud.io/nixx/WebMConverter.git

List of currently known and vaguely not dead /egg/ games (this list is not fully inclusive and if you think a game might belong here, feel free to ask):
>Algodoo
>Avorion
>Besiege
>Chode - Children of Ded Earf
>Empyrion - Galactic Survival
>Factorio
>From the Depths
>Homebrew - Vehicle Sandbox
>Infinifactory
>KOHCTPYKTOP: Engineer of the People
>Machinecraft
>REM
>Robocraft
>Robot Arena 2
>Scrap Mechanic
>SHENZEN I/O
>Space Engineers
>StarMade

Games that are definitely not /egg/:
>Minecraft
>The general that quite literally cannot be named. The Mexican scam artist one. With the shitposters. Fuck off.
>Hearthstone, found in the hearthstone general, /hsg/, not in this general.

Information about these games, such as where to get them if they're not on steam, trailers, /egg/ conquered/hosted servers, and other shit can be found in this pad:

Didn't stop them. It's not ship to ship, it's the character that has these tentacles that come out the back and try to repair shit, I don't know how it's called.
I'm not sure what is taking up the resources though, maybe the ammo maker is running (although the thing with ammo icon is full, so it shouldn't be producing any if I didn't get that wrong) or whatever.
I have no idea what's going on.
I should have studied to become physician and play games.

>>161359226
Dunno. I haven't bought the game yet, still trying to decide if a) it'll hold my attention, and b) there's interest somewhere here for a private server, because monthly subscriptions aren't my thing. It helps that the very act of playing is practically writing bots to play against in the future.

From an outsider's perspective, it looks like the online game is mostly spawning in newbie areas and derping around before getting raped by established empires once the areas stop being newbie areas. Infinite world though, so you can always start again somewhere else.

Andromeda is pretty much fuckin' dead, no playerbase retention, nothing to do.

once 5.0 hits, the HWS EU/NA servers are going to be reset and clean slated, both of whom have a very high playerbase.

Since they run custom scripts, I've been stockpiling some things we can use to kickstart our empire of fuck, since some things are kept from wipe.

EU/NA is interchangeable, though you have to use an in-game warp system to go from region to region, all your belongings are saved, transferred to the other region, and then wiped from the former one, so I suppose if you want to dick around before the wipe, just remember to use their scripts and site.

Right now I've been idling on EU, stopped once I hit this point though.

I played with you on Andromeda already
>>
>>161362595
Yeah sure, HWS runs a bit of a unique faction system, split up into five major types.

Factionless (regular)
Alliance (peacekeepers)
Traders (sells shit, who'da thunkit?)
Bounty Hunters (mo' money, punks people dead.)
Pirates (Pirates)

I'd suggest you read the HWS site with your friends, there's benefits to being in a specific faction variant.

As for us, I'm guessing we'll probably be going the bounty hunter approach.

faction wars are boring and ends up being massive ship cubes of 40 minute slogs

that's why we're going bounty hunters ourselves, get contracted by some other chap so it's their problem and we get paid regardless.

>>
>>161363464
You're producing more iron than you use. Press P to verify that.
I see half a belt of iron ore coming in (400 items/min), yet the outgoing belt appears to be at nearly full compression (800 items/min).
Can't just poof 400 items/min into existence, so the output is obviously way less than that.

You either need to make use of the other side of the iron ore belt, or check if your output splitter might be creating a bottleneck.

Not, it's not quite like that.
I mean scaling ship without adding parts, i.e. stretching models and increasing some stats accordingly.
>>
>>161390392
Well, currently that'd break a few things, but adding larger parts is pretty easy. After the ground update, possibly. Something similar to megabot parts in Robocuck? You can already stretch struts and panels almost infinitely.
>>
>>161388165
So what's the angle here? [battle arena construction game] meets descent?
>>
>>161390597
Effectively, yes. If you're into listening to podcasts, we talk about nothing but REM on the REMcast. In short, its all the autist dreams of two autists that play/used to play World of tanks, War Thunder, Robocraft, Starmade, Spengies, Besiege, Decent, Freespace, Mechwarrior Living Legends and similar nonsense.

It'll be multiplayer SOON, we just need to get the new physics in for everything to work smoothly.

Ideally speaking, it should slot right into where Robocraft used to be, about three years ago, and go from there.

Hello I am retarded how can I get coal to the furnaces on the left without having to manually stick it in
>>
>>161424774
you need at least two belts
>>
>>161424774
>>161424936
oh wait you're making those steel girder things
you can have coal go down the output belt, and then only remove girders (either smart inserter or inserter at one of the sides)
>>
>>161424774
You can only move fuel through boilers, not through furnaces.
>>
>>161424774
I'll teach you in three easy steps.

1 move steel belt one space right
2 add inserters able taking things from steel belt to steel furnace
3 split coal belt
4 run coal belt so it joins steel belt IN A T-JUNCTION, COMING IN FROM RIGHT SIDE
this is very important, lemme do a diagram

|| empty belt
||<---- coal belt
|| belt to the furnaces

5 place RIGHT FACING underground belt RIGHT AT THE END OF STEEL BELT, and put it's end somewhere in line

another diagram

|| steel/coal belt

I heard the idea, I was interested.
I watched the demo, I was almost excited.

And then I played it, and discovered that it barely functions and usually made blocks hover in place rather than fall down when their support was gone.
Plus there was nothing else to do at the time.
So I refunded it and never looked back.

I stopped playing when every single wheeled creation I made either exploded into teeny bits, or started floating through the air for whatever reason. Also pretty disappointing that windmill vanes were purely decorative and didn't work as lift surfaces. There's a few things from mengos which would be nice in spengos, such as compound blocks and peasants/barbarians, but otherwise it's pointless

Whole thing is semi functional now. Punched card system works. You can see in the webm I have 3 cards lined up

Card 1 adds 0011 to register 1
Card 2 adds 0011 to register 2
Card 3 adds both registers together and displays the result

Except for some reason the registers display the numbers back to front, but that's easy enough to fix.

Not much in the way of actual engineering, but that can be nice sometimes. You just slap down blocks, add engines, fuel tank, storage, ammo containers, oxygen/tanks, make sure its structurally sound and wont collapse, make sure its balanced and wont fly all shitty and lopsided, then throw on weapons and turrets and go do whatever you want.

No moving joints, spinny parts, or programmable stuff. If you dont want to do all the survival stuff like mining, base building, gathering/farming food, etc, theres a creative mode so you can just build things and save the blueprints, so that you can use them in singleplayer survival mode or multiplayer, which is also survival.

Its way better and you don't have to follow NEWTON and balance thrusters. As long as you have at least one pointing in every direction you can fly well. No bullshit autism spending 80+ hours getting the thrust just right like FtD.

The netcode is frankly very impressive for a game such as it is. I've never really had a lag problem other than the scope-in bug (basically tthe first time you look through a scope after logging in, the game will hang for like 5 seconds then it will never do it again until you log off)

So, /egg/, have you done your duty?
Let's stir up some discussion.
/egg/heads, have you successfully gotten friends to play /egg/ games?
How many and which game?
Do you have any tips for your fellow /egg/s in regards to convincing people?

For me, I started with my friend who I knew was really into sci-fi, and I planted the seed in his head a few months before Black Friday, which is when he bought it. I think the $10 price really helped a lot, as after we played for a bit on Discord, our other friends started getting curious. A few didn't like these types of games for the risk of losing all your shit so the existance of PvE planets made a hefty difference for them.

Found a complete view.

Big treads to resist mines, big armor to resist mines, reinforced from inside to resist mines. Dropped because it's a clearly easy target, being so big and slow.

Note that the direction is changed with chains tied to a wheel inside.

Yeah the whole being-an-obvious-target thing is the biggest overall design flaw.

Ion cannon gives nice resource sink, charging stations for logibots are nice, nuclear mod is also fine, even if unfinished, Angel's infinite resources take a lot of pressure from your shoulders, upgraded mines are also fun to use.

Least autism tier - Medieval/Space enginners, Empyrion

More autism tier - factorio, , besiege

full blowm autistic tier - infinifactory, from the depths,

who cares about this piece of shit tier - everything I didnt list
>>
>>161518063
I'd say the logistic-styled ones are higher up usually, like Factorio.

Surprisingly Infinifactory is not too far under Factorio towards the later levels, but it's on a smaller scale and has an actual end so there is a limit to how far you can go.

The programming ones also some of the highest I'd say, like Shenzen I/O. Possibly higher than Factorio, not sure.

FtD is next, due to how specific you can get with weaponry.

SpessEng is medium, but only due to how persistent you have to be to keep playing by now.

Besiege is one of the lower ones, unless you start adding loads of mods. Unsurprisingly, this means it's one of the more fun ones.

Algodoo is reaching the top since there's no direct goal, so it's just there to make things as autistic as you want.

Those are just ones I have experience with.
Basically, the things to look for are:
>How many mechanics are there in the game itself
>How mechanically complex you can make things when combined
>How much of a sandbox is it, does it have an actual end goal that prevents you going full autism

Man I've been really wanting to make an engineering game like that. Basically something of a realistic simulation of NASA's self-replicating robotic Moon factory concept. It'd be sort of like factorio, except you play the factory.

You'd start out as a small seed and have to carefully manage your resources to expand your industrial base to the point where you can make them before everything you have breaks down! And things will breakdown from wear, accidents, meteor strikes, etc.

Now the fun part is you have to do everything through highly specialized robots, which are very dumb and incapable. So let's say one of your resource carrying robots hits a piece of debris, this causes it to break down. So you try to pick it up with another robot, this dislodges some stuff the robot was carrying, the other robot bumps into that breaking down. And now you have two broken robots and more debris spread.

So you have to rearrange your factory to keep things working as accidents like this happen.

>One of the probes ends up hitting Earth, sparking an apocalypse and causing a race for resources as the probes try to replicate and the humans try to create arkships
>Can't land on habitats because they forgot to put in an end condition, thus anyone who lands is killed and their ship converted into raw materials

There are only two good reasons to use electric furnaces, notably that they can be powered by solar energy and can accept modules.
Both of which are relatively late-game affairs. Compared to steel furnaces, electric furnaces are larger and more expensive to build.
Further, if you use combustion-based power to run the electric furnaces, you're effectively using double the amount of fuel (boilers only run at 50% efficiency).

Its got 8 big hover jets undeneath it, so it could lose all those 4 sections with minigun turrets, and still be able to limp around to escape things. Muh redundancy.

They only thing that sucks is that even though the minigun turrets are way smaller than the big gattling guns, they use the same ammo.

So if the turrets go full retard and start wasting my ammo, Ive got no dakka left for my 4 gattlings. I could probably swap the turrets out with something that uses a different ammo.

There's a core, structural, utility and weapon modules. Each affect stats, armament or even a mode of transportation.

Is there a game where you can build stuff in similar matter with the ability to program it to do something?

theoretically you wouldn't have to send that pesky propellant into space on the craft due to meme magic but that probably only applies to probes and other things which can tolerate the yuge time for acceleration that low thrust drives need

>>
>>161573225
>that probably only applies to probes and other things which can tolerate the yuge time for acceleration that low thrust drives need
Dude, with our current tech any travel other than to ISS or LEO takes yuuge amount of time, so meme drive will make everything cheaper and faster
Given it works, obv.
>>
>>161573612
any missions inside the asteroid belt are faster with rockets

depending on trajectory most missions outside the asteroid belt are also faster with rockets

it's only when you try to go interstellar that the EM drive even starts being relevant, and you'd have to make a craft so light you can't really do anything once you reach your destination

unless meme magic prevails and some dude figures out that HUH IF I MADE IT A 5 SIDED CONE INSTEAD IT GENERATES 5000X MORE THRUST??

The cost per kg of mass sent to space remains the same, however.
You've just conveniently cut down on the mass that needs to be sent up (for certain missions).
Considering the EMdrive puts out 85mN at a mass of 2.92 Kg (0.3% of thrust required to lift itself), it'll not send anything to space for the forseeable future.
For specs, I'm going by section 8 of http://www.emdrive.com/IAC-08-C4-4-7.pdf

EMDrive currently generates 100 micronewtons of thrust at 100MW. So you can fart on your rocket and give it more thrust at far less energy requirements. EMDrive will be great for long-term missions that would typically use an ion drive, but would need shitloads of power (probably a full nuclear fission reactor).

While fuel-less propulsion is great, it isn't currently feasible, and I'm still no entirely convinced the thrust wasn't caused by thermal radiation or outgassing.

That vertical piece goes up a very high distance before being pushed onwards, if you make that alone shorter then it'll take less time to get to the end. Especially good since the rest of it relies on that to get there.

Laptops. Shite cooling, lots of dust. 90 degrees is commonplace under load. Also AMD CPUs can run at 100C and give 0 fucks, it's kinda a feature.

Computer controlled electric valves instead of mechanical valves driven by cams on a stick driven by a chain/belt.

Makes design and maintenance easier by a factor of ten, removing dozens of parts from the system and making engine timing infinitely and instantly adjustable. You could have pushbutton engine tuning without ever turning it off.

This one makes a bit more sense with clearance, since you need the sides clear for welding, but you could be cheeky and lower the 'holding' section a couple of blocks.

Lemme think.
I can't remember if blank blocks are actually counted as 'blocks' in the stats, but if they're not then you could make the solar panel conveyor belt alternate between conveyors and blanks (in the section where it moves them lengthways). When a conveyor's on the ground and doesn't need support it's certainly a good thing to remove any single blocks you don't need.

Blockers are useful in certain situations, but personally I like to have the waiting parts sit on a blank, then get pushed from behind onto the conveyor (try it with the one at the bottom if there's room behind the satellite). It saves a cycle or so each time.

Last but definitely not least, the welders can be used in pairs if you're only moving the blocks in one direction past them (like the vertical section at the beginning, simply take the top one off).

I need to start listing space/block-saving techniques in an image.

Then when a number of previous devs came out and spoke against the company in our threads they initiated a total lockdown and started censoring us so we couldn't organize our next move against them.
Many of our members also turned against our general and started to let it die. Eventually it became just me, fighting a lonely fight.

REManon here, requesting assistance. Can some of you take a look at this trailer I cut together from the latest version and give me some critical analysis? Its still wip, but the intention is to use it to talk to publishers as a flashy set piece. Please be as harsh as possible. I've been bouncing the idea of having text on screen, given that someone looking at it might not know exactly what's going on.

I guess I could also use the trailer for greenlight, but the music is kinda sorta super not mine to use commercially, so bets out on how well that will go.

>>
>>161635193
No, that's just unity physics being unity physics. Any faster and they'd rip apart, so the arena is relatively small to compensate. The new physics have already shown to be capable of going about five times as fast with litterally no issues, with friction enabled. Is it really offputting? If so, we can wait until we get the physics in fully to start talking with publishers or shilling on greenlight.

Should've clarified, my bad. It was that behaviour that I was translating into "vision".
If two object with different collision groups are overlapping and they suddenly start colliding, then the geoms push apart. If I add a mechanism to read whether they're pushed or not I can make the bot behave specific to whether that laser has been triggered. Webm shows a whole bunch being triggered, with output prioritised to up>down>left>right

"Malbolge was so difficult to understand when it arrived that it took two years for the first Malbolge program to appear. Indeed, the author himself has never written a single Malbolge program.[1] The first program was not written by a human being: it was generated by a beam search algorithm designed by Andrew Cooke and implemented in Lisp.[2]"

How to make a long distance oil pipline in factorio without it slowly trickling into the refinery
>>
>>161660809
Pumps every so often and underground pipes.
But in all likelihood, your issues have nothing to do with pipe throughput.
Check the pipes close to your pumpjack. If they're not full, then pipe throughput is not a limiting factor.

>NO full release
>edging forever
>>
>>161662083
No, but the maximum throughput of a pipe is a function of distance.
For a fluid to be transported from pipe segment A to pipe segment B, there must be a pressure gradient.
This means that A must have more fluid in it than B. A greater difference means a greater flow.
Given that there is a maximum fill, and the gradient must be constant throughout a pipe, it follows that a given length of pipe has an upper limit to the flow it can support.

Someone did a math on it on the forums, and just like everything else including math (see: "perfect" ratio of solar and accumulator), people just jump to the numbers at the end.
It would take immense effort to reach a point where pipe throughput is a limit.

you connect both to your rail network
