Moving my question to the new thread

I bought this game about a week ago and I really like it. I'm getting close to level 25 and I'm excited to try competitive play, but I'm worried that I'm not going to be able to balance out my team. I play Tracer as my main and Pharah as a secondary, would I be more successful if I mained a spread of characters in different roles? Or should I focus on being as good as possible with just these two?

If it matters, I have a ton of TF2 experience and a fair amount of LoL experience.

You need to be comfortable with at least one or two heroes in each "class" to not hinder your team. Unless you're next door to the Blizzard servers with a top of the line rig, you will never always be the first to pick and will have to pick around your team rather than the other way around. You have to adjust to what the team comps are, especially at higher rankings.

You should probably learn to play lucio/ana since they are in every game and also play a tank. You are going to see a lot of 3x instalock dps in the lower ranks and its good to be able to fill.

If youre a god with a hero you can just play it and eventually reach the ranks where your team takes care of the comp and you dont have to care.

The best way to get good is to play all characters to learn who you can take out easily and who counters you the most.

However, Widowmaker is filled with such guile, such french smugness that she does not even use these powers. Why, you might ask? You will never know, for the mind of the Widowmaker is not one that is easily penetrated. Widowmaker is such a force of nature in her realm that nothing can truly touch her, the only thing keeping her bound to the game at all is her will to exist within the preordained boundaries of her world. Widowmaker is not only beyond the comprehension of us, she exists within a plane of true focus and beauty. Observe her smug smile, her gorgeous and rippling ass, her cute nose, and most importantly, her eyes. Her eyes, like pools of saffron, provide the only glimpse into the true machinations of Widowmaker. Do not stare into them. Many good men have gone mad in the attempt. Through a labor of love I feel like I'm very competent on Pharah. There are a couple of different modes to effectively play Pharah, relevant at different times.

I feel that many people playing Pharah don't have as good of a grasp on high speed Pharah movement as I do, which skews their perceptions a bit.

1. Long distance chokepoint spam, usually hovering high.
2. Aggressive diving. Really this just means zipping over/past the tanks and quickly taking out supports in a couple of rockets. Only works when there are no competent hitscan. Hovering low.
3. Tagging behind D.Va/Winston. Pharah is very mobile and keeps pace with mobile tanks very easily, hovering low. The pressure these tanks provide along with Winston spheres or D.Va defense matrix keeps Pharah safe.

These are the methods of playing Pharah successfully.
But these methods don't make Pharah viable. She provides virtually nothing to ult economy and the most successful Pharah is still outdamaged by all other DPS hero options. The knockback nerf removed a significantly unique value Pharah previously provided and most importantly, Pharah's projectile speed limitations (bad vs Tracer, Genji, snipers, including Ana) don't justify having such low damage output that you and your team risks simply being overpowered by tanks. There are simply so many better alternatives than Pharah at all times, being that they provide more damage with better delivery and utility (McCree, Soldier:76, Genji, Tracer, Hanzo, Mei, or any tank)

Junkrat can still bully the opposition, but his skill-less killing ability has been reduced
Junkrat is now rewarded for good aim with increased damage. He also takes less damage in close quarters shooting, because there's less splash damage involved.

If you wanna raise his skill cap, just do what Valve did for Demoman and lower the damage of grenades that bounce off a surface. And then just SLIGHTLY increase his direct hit damage.

With this change, he would also need an extra grenade or two in his magazine in order to lockdown chokepoints/doorways just as effectively as he does now.
