But you often can't just defend, you have to heal up and apply defensive buffs and occasionally use items instead of attacking on your damage members if you're really fucked and it can set you back loads of turns costing most TP resources and items. A preemptive is just ending a fight with one less enemy turn than the usual encounter which isn't often a threat.

In EO1U, how do most people build their gunners? It seems like there's a decent build that involves a bunch of buffs like Vulcan Stance and somehow buffing Freddy's crits, but that's just using normal attacks.

I'm imagining most people would go for a Ricochet build in a similar vein to EO4's Squall Valley Snipers?

I fucking did it guys, I managed to 100% EO1. Now I can finally get a Town Crown for my EO2 guild.

Also how should I build a Hexer? Revenge builds seem kinda overpowered and really annoying to manage so I'd like to avoid it if possible. Evil Eye sounds really fun but not sure how useful it is throughout the game. Also are binds and debuffs good on Hexer?

Played EO 3, 4 and u2. Only finished 4, as I lost the save for 3 and having a hiatus from 2.
I really don't like story mode, and it turned me away when it initally released. But in 1u, is it that much better? I don't care for any of the characters, and the voice action is pain for my ears. Is it still worth doing Story for extra boss and dungeon?

I just made a Spear with Fire element on it.

What are the mechanics behind that? If I hit a monster that resists fire, will I deal less damage than if the weapon didn't have an element? Or is the elemental damage just a bonus on top?

It will indeed do less damage to enemies resistant to Fire, however, as far I know, the elemental addition is only for normal attacks, so you can still use your skills to damage enemies that resist it (this also means that enemies that are weak to Fire won't take more damage from skills).

Not really. You can use a gunner instead of a alchemist. Landy is fine, but if you wanna shit out damage, get a ronin instead. They hit harder and a princess on the front row can make sure they're getting constant heals.

Anything else, just feel for it. 2U is a more offensive game then the others, the goal isn't to trade hits, just to kill them before they kill you.

It also took me quite a while to finish EO1 but I just slowly played while listening to or watching shit for the most part.

It feels slow because it is slow, especially if you've played later ones because they spoil you for the lack of QOL features. I played through 1-4 then u1+u2 in order and every game I really looked forward to and felt like a huge upgrade

Yes Medic was nerfed a ton from 1 to EOU, but I found they can still hold their own and are improved in U2 compared to U1. I like alternating stun/debuff strike and vital, and use grimoires to beef him up a bit

What's your party's level? Also, use Immunize. If I remember correctly, he won't get rid of your buffs if you have only one per party member.

I think you have to go all offense most of the time and maybe spam Parry if you can, but it's been a while and I honestly forgot most things. First Step might be helpful to apply buffs (Immunize) quickly if you need to.
