Every Gnosis/BPC in the game was redeemed as a gift from CCP.
When CCP inevitably hands out more, the price will drop.

It's very safe, and I can do it in the background while doing research, but I was wondering: Is this the only sort of activity one can do when one can't spare enough focus for very profitable stuff but still wish to be logged in and doing -something- productive?

The closest thing to mining in afk-ability would likely be VNI ratting. Basically you get good drone skills, hop in a Vexor Navy Issue, go to a nullsec anom, hit orbit at 30k on some object in the site, release your drones, then go afk as they kill everything.

Eve is not a typical mmo, where the gear grind is bigger is better. Just because a ship is bigger does not mean it is better for what you want to do. Ship variety is a major part of the game. pick the right ship for the right job.

The devs have already demonstrated that they will give away the Gnosis. They may do it again, or even give away a better ship in the future.

I can't think of a situation where a Gnosis will give an alpha clone access to something where they could not do without it.

I quit PH after a week and joined a mining corp in FCON, no regrets. Now I just mine and everyone is chill. My corp even helped me buy a plex to get me into a barge. We only fight to defend our space, we're not spending all day just aimlessly roaming around like that's the only thing worth doing in EVE.

I've decided to pick up the game again after dropping it around 2012-13. I'm starting on a fresh f2p account. I'm leaning towards Minmatar to go fast or Gallente for drones but I'm just wondering if any of the races and their starting ships are considered much better than the others or if there are any I should be avoiding. Or should I just pick whatever?

Also I don't think this should be a problem but I will be playing with at least one other friend so should I try to pick the same race as him so that we can run the tutorial missions together or can we do that as different races?

If you want to be a regional trader, and be able to travel everywhere while getting brokerage fee reductions, you can run missions in such a way you have positive standing with the four major powers, just avoid missions where you have to kill ships.

If you want to make a Jita jew, you can FW on the side for the caldari. This will reduce your brokerage fee in Jita, and you can trade more profitably. After you scale up, the reduction in brokerage fees gives you an edge, as it allows you to undercut more. Getting to +10.0 standing will take months though, and for an alpha clone, it may not be realistically attainable.

My ultimate goal is to station trade full time. Not day trading spread arbitrage, more like trend trading and patch speculation. I figure if I do faction warfare and missions full time, I will take care of isk generation and standings grind.

I made a hauler alt that will be neutral to all factions, to allow free travel to all trade hubs. I also have a explorer alt.

I figure that I will get plex way before topping out my standing. At ten hours of game time a week, I estimate that I can get a functioning Jita Jew in a year.

As a gatherer/crafter/auction house player in other mmos, I think I found my game. I was on the verge of quitting the genre all together.

Well you said caldari, so I will assume you want to trade mainly in Jita. Jita is so competitive that you either need massive capital (that you sure as shit wont make running FW or lvl 2 missions) or babysit your order constantly. And I mean every 5 minutes.

That's why I chose my alts like I had. A hauler/regional trader will help me make isk and learn the market, the explorer will probably be my best isk/hr generator, although inconsistent.

Jita is certainly the end goal, but I will definitely work from small trade hubs into bigger ones. I want to avoid the update order by 1 isk game, and go for patch speculation. But yes, getting to this point will take month, even years.

+10.0 standing is a lot. what you can do is run the starter missions in all the caldari starter systems and maybe do some COSMOS mission, search for 'faction standing repair plan'.
there are a lot of obscure missions that give faction standing. another option would be joining FW if you don't mind tanking your gallente standings, i'm fairly sure FW missions give lots of standing. not sure about defensive/offensive plexing.

Search for relic sites in wormholes. Relic sites generally give better rewards than data sites, and it's much easier to slip through wormholes unopposed. Not saying you're not in danger, just that danger has a slightly harder time finding you.
