Hey HPM, something I wanted to say

I don't exactly know what the -20% modifier in assimilation was for culture groups and their cores (How it exactly worked, maybe I'm just too dumb to understand what if means) But I did noticed that, when hovering over it, the added on aforementioned penalty prevented the entire list being shown. After deleting the files, I got pic related. With the files in, the list was cut off at the Yazidi penalty, not showing the literacy, militancy, unemployment, and luxury goods modifiers. Just so you know.

Man I really am dumb. From the changelog "-A few cultural unions (Germany, Italy, India and China) will now stop assimilation of all pops in their culture groups as long as there's at least a core of the same culture group in the province." What does this mean?

So how come there's still no naval combat in CK2? Sure, naval warfare wasn't as important in the middle ages as it was during the renaissance and later on but it still existed. This seems like a major feature for Paradox to just cut out.

Neither of these make much sense.

One thing that bothers me about HPM is the situation of Poland. During the 1800s Congress Poland was under a personal union with Russia and was virtually a sub state of Russia. What bothers me the most is that during the January Uprising is that when Poland wins Russia has cores on them still so when the GP that defended Poland is distracted they can easily reconquer Poland. If I were to do it I would remove cores from Poland and give Russia a decision to reconquer it which would cost 8 infamy and -100 relations with all European GPs. Also what bugs me is that Poland-Lithuania which hadn't been formed since the 18th century can be formed in the game with implausible cores and awful borders.

After you manage to hold out against Vlad's invasion and earn 2000 prestige and piety you can pick a decision to reunite the empire. Normally that would be hard but if you know how the mod and the game works you can do it easily.

I'm going to leave the poll open (http://www.strawpoll.me/11743001) since French Australia is currently a close vote [18 NO vs 16 YES], but since Louisiana is very highly voted for [26 YES vs 8 NO] I'm gonna go ahead and start working on the Louisiana chain.

It'll probably be in the style of the Mexican-American War (occupy a few key American cities and force a treaty), though I'm undecided if America keeps it's cores or not (I might put it on a 20-30 year timer, or until the US is cut down in war) so if the USA doesn't take the land back the cores go away. France does NOT get cores on the land either, instead Louisiana gets cores on the area, as a releasable dominion

Right now both would use the "Native Protection Act" decision from HPM, but in the future I intend to add some special events surrounding France and the Natives.

As for cores, if you buy the rest of Rupert's Land/Columbia from the UK after the truce (which will cost you money and some colonies elsewhere), then Quebec will go away and be replaced by a French version of Canada, with the appropriate cores. Louisiana has cores on the rest of French North America, but i can't elaborate on how their culture setup is gonna work since I don't know yet. And finally Acadia is in the Maritimes, but can be lumped into French Canada by event.

I do want to expand upon the Napoleonic stuff, but this update is focused around redoing the colonies and splitting the FRA tag into 3 pieces.
If you're wondering why specifically the colonies got added before, it's because of the lack of flavor for Bourbon France compared to Napoleonic France. But later on you'll definitely see more Napoleonic France stuff, probably based on the Napoleon's legacy mod

It's not that big of an issue, that's probably 30-40k pops? Prussia has a lot of emigration due to the high militancy events it gets early on, and if there's only one colony to go to then everybody will go there.
A bigger issue in my opinion is the ease with which such immigration allows that little treaty port (and others like it) to achieve statehood, with both the absurd political ramifications as well as the gameplay effects of increased infamy cost. I'm not sure what the fix would be as it's a problem for a lot of colonies. I just hate seeing Chinese treaty ports and Indian or South Pacific islands getting turned into states instantly.

is there something i'm missing here? I just started playing ck 2 as a tribal pagan for the first time and you have to get a ruler with insane stewardship so you can have a large demesne size and sieze all of their lands once you subjugate them, and just hope that your heir has a high stewardship or that your law tech will reach sufficient law levels to enforce centralization etc....

Furthermore, literally nobody wants to join your court as a tribal, whereas that was never the case with feudal christians, and if you want to revoke all titles from the USELESS vassals, and then promptly replace the entire court and council to lose the tyranny penalty, you can't because nobody will join your court.

You can actually, and I've done it. You just use the slave growth event that HPM has in CivilizationAndGunboats.txt and modify to apply to French Canadian pops instead of slave pops, it's relatively simple. The only thing would be calibrating the reduce_pop values to something more reasonable, since HPM's event gives on average 5 times as many extra pops by 1936.

And historically, Louisiana did not open up to larger immigration, since the policy of France was to only allow French Catholics to settle in America, and there wasn't a large difference in policy for Louisiana and Canada. That's one of the reasons why there is very little French left in the former Louisiana territory, since there was only significant settlement near New Orleans and Detroit.

The key difference I think you should include in this mod is that France places a much greater importance on colonisation than it did in real life

France will keep up that stingy policy in this mod; If the colonies are under direct french control the only immigrants will come from elsewhere in your country, and the expensive settler decisions also only select random french cultured pops. if Canada/Quebec or Louisiana are no longer guaranteed safety by France, I could see them allowing Immigrants out of necessity rather than being happy about it.

I kind of simulate this by having France have high costs for these colonial holdings (wars, money, POPs from the mainland), with high rewards later (Dominions as satellites, resources, weakened rivals, etc.).

Not that I think about it though, I don't know how I'll handle/redo the Federation events and decisions now that France can get all this extra land

That sounds good, but it's worth remembering that in real life, in our timeline, France had their colonies go to other powers before it ever thought of bringing in immigrants from other parts of Europe to help populate them. Open immigration (in the sense that you accept everyone from anywhere in Europe) was a pretty radical idea at the time, and if it didn't make the United States powerful it's doubtful that anyone else would have adopted similar policies. You can probably model this using the country-specific (as in tag-specific) immigration modifiers for different pops similar to what NWO mod has, if you go that direction (having Spanish pops migrate to Spanish colonies, etc.)

And yeah, the high cost/high reward thing is accurate and sounds good, but what do you mean by federation?

You're on the money, but the fact that France has lost these colonies could help influence their settler policies; After all, it's impossible to defend a place if no one is there. The Louisiana (and to a lesser extent, Haiti) settler decisions specifically mention this being why France would pay such an expensive (the decision moves a ton of people and costs a ton of money) price to send French settlers there. Later on I'll look at limiting POP migration to certain cultures or religions, but I plan to focus on setting the system up first.

As for the Federation, right now in the mod France can colonize/retake Quebec and New Zealand, and eventually they can integrate the colonies into France itself, Algeria/ Imperial Federation style. This gives you cores on the places (right now just Quebec, Guiana, Haiti, and NZ) at the cost of prestige, homeland militancy, and diminished returns from the colonies (if you make them dominions, then they'll provide more troops and power due to things like immigration). This was easy to implement when it was 4 small colonies, but Louisiana and Australia are much larger compared to them. So the question is whether the federation events should be expanded to them (with more resistance from the colonies themselves).

Yeah, that sounds like exactly what I would do.

An idea might be having the "French Language Schooling" decision have more negative effects than in vanilla, or at least implementing something similar. In our timeline, French colonists came to have a new conception of identity after a certain time, but it wasn't like the American one of a separate people entirely, it was an idea that they constituted a new region of France that, while unique, was still part of France. This was before you had all the French Revolution and centralisation going on that tried to eradicate all the different regionalisms of France, both before and throughout the time period of Vicky. So it might be a good idea to have a "French language schooling" type of thing push the colonial countries away from France, since it would have been seen as an overreach of power.

But a France that respected the different regionalisms would be like what you're planning, somewhat reduced returns while not really having any separatism.

And I actually think that French Australia/New Zealand would be easier to integrate than Louisiana or Canada, since it hasn't had an established settler population for as long.
