He isn't. The amount of work you have to put in to make use of him isn't worth the effort. The yokai drone is interesting in a sense, but requires good communication skills to make use of. His guns are both amazing and shit at the same time contributing to the worth being unable to match the effort issue.

They need to either make him 2/2 on armor and speed, increase the damage on the MP5SD, increase the fire rate of the super nova, or give him 2 drones for long term value.

As it is you can just play Valkyrie and get all of Echo's utility with better weapons(Even post nerf on them), losing only the sonic blast in the process.

It's like how in Street Fighter they say you can really see what kind of player is, what their style is, based on their Ryu.

The meta gets tweaked and changed of course as they balance things and add new characters but characters that adhere to the fundamental goal of the game and functional within it at a level superior to the others will always be the top picks.

However we're also talking about high level play, not general play. The original post approached attacking with that in mind(high level play to win) while claiming defenders had more flexibility which isn't true at that level.

Certainly someone can use a low tier character, or an unusual team comp to win but they're going to have to work so much harder once the skill level increases. Yet it's at the higher levels that you really begin playing against other players.

If you block interior doors you give the enemy a better angle of attack because now you can't flank around them in any effective manner. Rainbow Six has seen a very small, but healthy, increase in players and that change can be attributed almost entirely towards it trending to becoming a free to play title (ie Starter Edition)

The game hasn't had any explosive growth, or seen as a staple in the FPS communities right now. It's just kind of seen as "there" -

I think part of this can come down to lack of variety. Siege does one thing, and does it well... But that's it. You are always attacking and defending a room, there is always a drone phase. It's always the same game.

What about an escort match where attackers have to escort a VIP (hostage mechanics) into the building to secure it, and all defenders have to do is kill the hostage to win... Or maybe what about a special event playlist where there is no drone phase and no set up phase, and rounds begin immediately. You are reinforcing the objective while attackers are entering the building trying to find out where the shit is.

Would ANY of this work? I don't know. Would it be balanced? Who knows. But they haven't even tried any of this. In fact they promised a new mode, and haven't delivered on it. So really they've done the opposite of what they said they would do.

I liked the game during the free weekend but I'd feel cucked if I bought it now and they released another edition of it in a month's time with a bunch of extra shit in it.

I've also heard balancing right now is questionable (shield users in particular are fucked from what I've read) and things like ACOG scopes are buggy and flicker and all sorts of other shit.

Welcome to Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege Wild Ride - it never ends. The game makes up for it in many ways, and is good, it's just poor design choices over the course of the game will change your experience for better or for worse.

The current Year 1 Season Pass expires on the 1st of December this year. The base game and Gold Edition (includes Year 1) is 50% off on Steam right now.

I don't think there'll be an Anniversary Edition, so you might as well pick up the game now.

Picking up Gold will save you the time of farming for the current 8 DLC Operators and will net you some "exclusive" Year 1 shit. Don't remember what the stuff are.

Shields are kinda cucked now but still playable if you're willing to go through some bullshit. Sights are kinda bugged out now as they do flicker every once in a while but never enough to hinder your actual aiming.

It was Free Weekend like last week? There was Starter Edition like last month or something and now it's on Sale. So now would probably be the best time to pick it up as there will be a lot of new players to play with.

You can do whatever the fuck you want on casual as long as you prove a minimum degree of brains. follow these easy steps:
>as an attacker: always shoot the cameras. If someone walks past a camera without shooting it, he's a trash tier player. Info is worth gold in this game (If you don't know yet where cameras are try to look for them. if you get spotted you will likely see a red glow. that's the cam, kill it asap)
>if you're rook YOU PUT THE FUCKING ARMOUR DOWN BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE. literally the second you spawn in you press that fucking button and place that shit right where you stand. doesn't even need to be a good position, there is no good position, wherever is fine. The sooner your armour is down the sooner everyone else can do their job.(roaming and whatnot)
>if you play castle don't castle doorways leading to your objective. this may sound like a good idea but it actually keeps your friends out and gives the enemy a better angle of attack. only castle windows and door leading directly to the outside.
here's some general tips:
before you buy an operator make sure you have a few hundred renown extra so that you can also equip him/her with a decent sight, grip, barrel attachment and whatever else is available. (do the SP missions first to get startup money) don't go out with iron sights m8.

The fuck am I supposed to do for secure area when it's in the kitchen on that snow map? Blackbeard just peeks the kitchen window and wrecks all the randos. One dude came up with the idea of just reinfocing and castling it completely while we defend the outside so they can't actually get inside. Worked well until 2 randos got impatient and started running outside.

On Plane: Only glaz (the sniper on attack) can shoot trough the windows, so beware.
you can't hurt your teammates or the hostage with melee attacks. if someone tries to bait you into shooting the hostage by parking his drone on it, just kneel down and meele the fucker.
since often nobody does it in casual: when the prep phase ends you should get on cameras and there are usually 2 outside cams which let you see where the enemies come from. this is VITAL info. the right thing to do would be to get off cam once you see them and tell your team, but since I'm lazy and they destroy the outsides cams 80% of the time anyway, I just scan them once and then fuck off.
If you wanna be a really aggressive attacker, sometimes you can jump out a window and get a quick kill then hop back in. this will need some getting use too because: you should ONLY do it if the enemy has his back to you (vaulting out makes you kinda vulnerable) and you can surprise him. Don't do it if you have to run around outside for extended periods of time because after 2 seconds you will be marked visible for the enemy until you go back in again.
be careful about murder holes. a lot of the walls in r6 are destructible and often people make little holes to watch certain areas.
be careful when placing any kind of charge on barricaded or castled door and un-reinforced walls. If someone is right on the other side he can shoot trough the wood and kill you while you're in the animation, or if you're trying to do it on a castle door, people can shoot at your feet beneath it killing you that way.
Go by these simple things and you will be better than most people already.

the reduction of vision to the sights is minimal. but the main point is: You REALLY wanna see what you're shooting at way more than what's around you (at the point of shooting). The Idea is: if you are going somewhere you will have a general idea where people are or might be. you will have corners and covers to check and you will be doing this ADSing, ready to shoot at whatever fucker things he can hide there. You're not gonna miss someone on your right because there was a sight. You were gonna miss someone on your right because you haven't checked properly and now someone on the right has already killed you, sight or not. Personally I prefer the acog everywhere I can get it.

Rainbow Six is a game where getting surprised usually ends in your death. (unless the other guy was also surprised, or a total shitter). Good sights just help you be more accurate in lining up your shots.

Not to say that it's impossible to do well with iron sights. I'm sure some people pulled off amazing aces with them, But why would you not take every bit of support you can get?

You'd need to win a few hundred matches to unlock all of the DLC operators. That's not counting the matches you'll have to play to unlock the original characters and their weapon mods. I've read here that this season's DLC will be cheaper to buy with game currency when the next one starts, but that's also when the current season pass ends.

You can get all the "normal" ops in a reasonable time, "DLC" stuff is a bit longer but if we're honest that's ok. it's what normally would be real money only offered to those who play a lot basically for free. If you enjoy R6 I would say just buy the Season pass right now at half off just to fucking support a good system rather than the bullshit that is pushed way too often in such games.

you might be playing a good long while though to get enough renown for ALL operators. in 80 levels I did make about 100k renown (after unlocking every single baseline OPerator and equipping all of them with the necessary attachments)

You might not want to buy every OP though. I consider skippable:

yeah I imagined as much. I was aware that I was basically "playing wrong" for the sake of the challenge. quite often I had a clear kill that turned out to be my death as I started rushing towards their backs hoping for that knife kill. (used to work quite a lot when the game was new but either people have gotten smart or audio has gotten better because I get WAY less knife kills than I used too (85 Melee kills in 1217 total kills according to my statistics)
