To all those people who think SFV is the best SF game in the franchise: what makes it great and better than any entry in the franchise?

Because from what I play this game is serviceable but not that great.

I still don't get why people say "This game has issues, but the core gameplay is great!" without explaining what makes it great in the first place. I think some people are still playing the game because it has Street Fighter written on it and it's the only traditional fighting game to have a relatively big competitive scene, so they pass whatever issue this game has under the rug.

This is, air-to-airs in this game are absolutely atrocious as well. If you're not predictive or have amazing reaction or your air-to-air button doesn't knock down you're giving your opponent frame advantage just because of how fucking fast air resets are. I'll try to make a webm at some point.

And even so, characters (like Guile) with previously amazing aa normals suffer from the same shit. Even top tiers heavy buttons (like Chun's b.hk) trades stupidly often.

As for actual criticisms, there have been lots of posts talking about the issues in this game, from online netcode infrastructures to gameplay related stuff.

Don't pretend that, just because there are some people that shits on the discussion just to prove that their favourite fighting game is better, there is no actual criticism about SFV in those threads.

Think that one of the best players in this general, broski, still plays SFV and enjoys it, but he doesn't go on shitposts or useless posts without substance saying how the game is great.

how does no chip diminish zoning? if you have 60% health and your opponent has 1%, it's 100x more logical to try and zone them out, play defensively, and finish with a poke or projectile./ you can chip with CA anyway which is a great design

SFV'S design philosophy was mainly negative: no challenging execution, no vortex, no overpowered stuff. It's only positive design goal was to make the game offensive: good dashes, good tools for dealing with zoning, fewer dominating normals, weaker reversals, maybe more input delay.

There is not much that stands out about the game, because it was designed by people leery of "gimmicks" and eager to return to the good ol fundamentals of ST.

The important lesson of SFV is that for a fighting game to thrive now it either needs to sell to casuals hard (MKX story mode, gimmicks like fatalities that are only a nuisance at tournaments) or it needs to be fun to watch. SFV is dull to watch and had a mediocre launch so it is losing steam, or at best stagnating

A character sucking in tournament play =/= a character sucking overall.

Even in tournaments you can get very far with characters like Bison. The problem only comes when you face off against super autists like Infiltration or Justin Wong who have been playing FGs for decades and know how to play every MU in the game perfectly.

So even in tournament play the statement "Bison sucks" or "Bison is low tier" only applies when you're playing against the top 100~ or so players in the tourney scene.

So again, that is several orders of magnitudes removed from playing online while you're home in your boxers.
