In an MMO environment people will want to compete, and if everyone can have an NPC army protecting them from boarders and manning their larger guns, that is what they will have to do.
Where is the teamwork? How is it an epic multicrew capital ship to behold entering the system when it's actually just one dude?

Let's assume that you and me are in an org of 50 people. We get in our ships, we chase this Admiral guy, EVA to his Javelin door, all board it, kill his NPC crew, take the bridge and kill him, teabag him, upload the video to Youtube and fly away in the new ship.

How does this take away from it being an MMO? There will be 9:1 ratio of NPCs to humans in the game, so why not be allowed to hire them?

So what if some poorfag in his pooraura can't take down an guy in his Javelin and his 24 NPC gunners? You're not supposed to be able to do that vs other players anyway.

Networking is their biggest hurdle as i understand it. I wanna have freespace 2 levels of fuckhuge player pvp battles. I just don't see that happening outside of some sort of sorcery with the networking.

Someone flying around trolling with their NPCs will soon attract a large bounty and they'll have dozens of players chasing them.

I've been watching over time as the redeemer is basically fucking forgotten by CIG and gets progressively more and more broken in the hangar with each update (can barely even get into the fucking thing anymore), also the fact that it's never even mentioned on the roadmap. Besides the alien ships may not have much modularity in the final game which would limit their upgrade potential.

i've got a polaris and thugdromeda at the moment and feel very comfortable with the latter as an ultimate, versatile fallback should everything go tits up for whatever reason; along with early wide application usage as the game first begins. should be within your price range but i don't know about LTI and whatnot.

there might be things more specialized but an andromeda will likely be a forefront jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none ship.

Merchantman might be good for future value once they increase its price so you can CCU to a more expensive ship.
Constellation is good for multirole and you can get an Avenger or something with the leftover credits. Maybe a base Freelancer and a Super Hornet/Sabre? MISlancer and Cutlass? Hull C and a small fighter? You have many options. Personally I'd go for the Constellation.

Connie is pretty good for a generic multi-role crewed ship. The Freelancer is going to be better at hauling with variants filling in for specific roles. Both can be run solo but you will be missing out on a lot of firepower without someone manning the turrets in the Connie. Neither ship is very good against dedicated combat ships like the Hornet or Saber.

M8 you have to use the "Plot Route" function in the Galaxy Map. You can't make one singular jump to a system outside of your jump range so you need have the map plot a route so you can jump system to system until you get to your destination.

Very very few MMOs have risks even vaguely approaching SC. they all have faction which cannot betrayed, GM teams that will undo scamming and skullduggery. Really there is only EVE, and we all know how reliable even the reputable corps in EVE are, they almost routinely unravel because of the actions of individuals, and the fallout is opportunistic chaos.

Don't think MMOs, think more along the Lines of DayZ or Rust in terms of trusting people you just met. And if you are the rich new guy in an org you better be aware and accounting for the fact that someone in that org is looking at you and planning how best to make your shit his shit.

So from the looks of it the Sabre variant comes with 2 Sledge mass drivers and 2 plasma shotguns. Kind of a shame really, they could have strapped the APAR ones to it instead.

Seriously, that sound actually sensible, originally the Cruise mode was like "free escape button, come back jousting" and you would have need a game mechanic just interdict that as well
As for the boost, the afterburner will now basically perform the same thing with one button, they just have to balance how long you can afterburn at 100% to avoid the jousting


ps : I wonder if you'll be able to reach afterbr/cruise speed then hit decoupled mode to keep at it without using fuel (sort of things they would fix)

I could use some help guys.

I purchased upgrade from my Starfarer to Orion (Starfarer felt ugly and CIG nerfed fuel thingy hard, so fuck it, do not want anymore).

I've also purchased upgrade from my Redeemer to Caterpillar (i needed a cargo ship to replace Starfarer and i also gave up all hope on the Redeemer). But was it the right cargo ship for me ? Can Caterpillar cargo capacity compare to Starfarer ? I don't feel like getting Banu, it's just not my style. And hull series just won't do as "home" ship.

I've also purchased upgrade from my Freelancer to Cultass Blue (who needs Freelancer when you have a bigger cargo ship already anyway).

And i also have Super Hornet which i'm getting bored with and sort of wish i never had it, i think four ships to start with is massive overkill, three is already stretching it...

Basically i'm 100% sure i want to keep Orion (moneymaker) and Cutlass Blue (combat).
Need reassurance on that Caterpillar upgrade or some compelling arguments against it, and what the fuck do i do with Super Hornet now, i don't want it's firepower to start game with..
Should i maybe melt it for some Caterpillar modules ? Or melt both and get something else ?

Personally, I use my Caterpillar as a jack of all trades sort of ship (Home/Light Aircraft Carrier/Armored Cargo) for now. I'd say you should do the same, because who knows what might be the most profitable profession. I can hardly find any argument against that Caterpillar because it'll be really flexible and can adapt to nearly everything you want to do.

Orion to me seems more like a group-thing money-maker that will probably work best if you had a friend with a Hull-C/D to haul your shit and sell it for you.

Super Hornet is basically just a slightly enlarged Hornet anyway that comes with a pre-installed ball- and noseturret, the latter which will probably reworked. I'd say keep the SH because if nothing else, you'll have a good fighter. Keep in mind that the Cutlass is now being split into NuCutlass and Buccaneer. Bucky seems pretty good, albeit a bit on the uglier side.

I'd suggest you get a fun ship for cruising around. M50, Herald or 350R are all fun ships that will help you get around faster, which might be something you wanna do in the PU.

I think you're looking at the out-dated stats page of the Carrack. Not much is known about how much the Carrack can actually haul, only that it has a bay for an Ursa Rover and a hangar for the unknown Pisces snub. The Carrack is supposed to have some cargo modules, but nothing has been said about how modular it will be and if you can re purpose hangars to storage places.

Keep in mind that the Carrack is more of a dedicated explorer and not much of an armored hauler. You might want to take a second look at the BMM or the Hull series. I wouldn't underestimate the Hull series - it's a full-sized ship with living quarters and everything, plus it will rake in the money (at least in secured space). Working in tandem with the Orion might be more profitable than Nul-Sec mining with a Caterpillar or similar ship. There's also a militarized version of it (not much said about it though).

Melt the SH and keep the store cred for later then. Not much point to it unless you don't wanna spend more time in the current PU plinking away at NPCs.

Yes and yes. There's dedicated exploration ships with extended ranges, any ship that can hold cargo and fight can be used for piracy. There's also extended fuel tanks you can chuck on most ships, but long range / exploration ships can go much futher without refueling.

There's a Jump Drive, and not every ship has one. Honestly I'm not sure on the full details, but I imagine the jump drive is to get between systems. So if you don't have a jump drive, you don't go to other systems without some means of assisted travel (Jump rings, wormholes) or some such. Quantum Drive takes fuel, but can get you around a system quite quickly.

As an aside, you can use quantum drive without an actual target, but is there a way to cancel a quantum drive before it finishes?

Armor will most likely only be against lighter arms like shotguns, smg's and handguns.

Not sure they'll stop railguns, laser and plasma weapons.

But the shitty part by uisng those guns is blowing a hole in your hull if the fight occur in a boarding scenario for example.

My take on the whole Gimbal vs. Fixed discussion is that some ships are meant to have gimbals (i.e. Hornet because they turn and handle like shit) and some are better with fixed guns (i.e. Saber).

I think what people actually complain about more is controller parity, because a Mousenigger will still be more accurate, regardless of Fixed or Gimbals. To me at least, both variants have their advantages and disadvantages. With Stick, you have an easy time doing fancy evasive maneuvers but you have a harder time hitting shit. With Mouse you have better accuracy, but you're somewhat limited in maneuvering your ship. I enjoy flying bigger ships with stick while for fighters I enjoy using mkb.

Well, there's virtually no news about it, and it's got a few perceived hurdles:

-CIG is primarily focused on getting a Squadron 42 release in the near future, and with the Vanguard Hoplite taking the role of UEE dropship, the Redeemer has been pushed back.

-The Redeemer hasn't shown up on any Upcoming Ship lists on the road to version 4.0, as Dropship/Gunship is not a gameplay element that needs much more work or examples at this time.

-The Redeemer model in the hangar is fucking broken and will need to be completely remade.

You can practically sit on the event horizon right now and nothing happens, try and get any closer and you get booted out from the exclusion zone.
Revamped Neutron Stars was a step in the right direction in giving Explorers interesting new things to interact with, we can make our own supercharged jump routes now. But Neutron Stars are only a hazard if you don't know the proper way to enter the jets, I want there to be a real hazard you have to be cautious of when exploring and Black Holes should be that. Reminder that some of us consider that starting from small utilitarian ship and working our way into a great captain is part of the game experience.
It would suck to start with a late-game everything and be disappointed when trying out early ships that aren't special enough to be survive the comparison.

If it turned out SC started with new players training/doing mission on a Argo ship to pay for an Aurora/Mustang, I would keep my pledge one in the hangar and do those missions while they still feel relevant.

this is it for me. i did spend a little more money when i backed a year ago than i should have, and have a couple small ships

I had just under enough credit to buy that outanding $375 drake package yesterday and it took all my willpower not to fork up the 75 i needed for it. but now i'm sitting on my LTI herald, LTI cutlass, and handfull of dragonflies and not regretting it. I think i'll enjoy playing with 2-3 freinds in smaller ships on day 1 than i will spending an hour just to get a caterpillar or larger off the pad with full crew and escorts. unless youre in an extremely organized org that's assigning roles and crews to everyone, i think we all know the level of organization we want isnt gonna be a constant variable you can expect to have every time you get into your ship

yes you need a game package, which is $15 of whatever package you have that will not be used in upgrading it.

here's what i did:
melted everything package included
bought aurora MR starter
bought 85x, upgrade into cutlass = LTI cutlass
bought 85x, upgrade into herald = LTI herald

basically if you only own the starfarer, and it's upgraded from your starter package, youre going to need to melt it, buy a starter package and forget about it, buy 85x, upgrade into starfarer. you're gonna need to spend money if it's the only ship you own

I honestly have an easier time hitting targets with fixed when they're a bit distant. Fixed weapons do have a limited amount of snap-to targeting and the relative motion of a more distant target is lower, making it easier to track the sight on them and keep the hardpoints snapped to their silhouette.
