Shadowcraft is actually pretty good at dealing with decks that want to control the board or go face. Part of the reason they struggle against Haven is that in addition to the banishment and healing, Haven doesn't really storm the board with small creatures and instead just plops fatties down with Elana. I feel like Elana is a worse matchup for Shadow whereas Storm feels more even.

For D-shift players, how often do you find yourself making it up as you go along?
I picked up the deck as i didn't want to play something too braindead where lots of cards gave me lots of choices. But i find myself resorting to a backup plan more often than not where i'm blowing a D-shift before the kill in order to throw up a huge board presence before normally using a 2nd shift a few turns later to close out.

Or am i just bad at it?

100% of the Dshift players I have lost against (a lot) all played up to exact lethal precisely without showing a destroyer or a dshift.

I am pretty consistently going 4-1 in arena now, but there is always that one game where I mess up and lose because I misjudge whether to evolve and trade or not. The worst part is that I know I messed up but can't figure out how to fix it because next time I tend to swing too far in the other directions in terms of aggressive/passive. With all the out of hand damage of aggro decks and having to contend for speed with seraph turn 10 is usually a foolish dream

You just have to know what can each class play in terms of removal, storms, and evos and consider their hand size. If they have a full hand/some evo points, then don't evo unless you are trying to survive as it will likely get removed or start evo trade wars. If you are playing against Blood or Haven, then don't waste an evo point when they have 6 PP or Vengeance as you are likely going to get board wiped. Evolve and trade if all you can play for the turn is a single ward and you know that the next follower they play can evo and take it out. If they don't have a lot of cards in hand,then you can feel relatively safe about evolving. These aren't concrete rules and there is always going to be some bullshit like they have 2 Deathbrands in hand or something like that, but a lot if it is just recognizing the situation and knowing what each class can play.

Can't argue about matchmaking as I don't know enough the matchmaking issues in both to compare, but draw RNG is inherent in every single card game. Don't know what you expect here. You want deck rigging cards like in Magic? Even then you are still subject to draw RNG.

Best advice I can give you is never keep combo pieces in your mulligan, its the best way to get a clogged hand and not be able to cycle fast enough. You'd think keeping a Dshift would be a good idea but its not. What you want early on in hand is draw, especially fate's hand and some cantrips. Your most critical early game goal is to get a full hand fast and keep it that way as long as possible.

You can flow chart D-shift but you would never be good at it. Knowing how to work best with the draws you have and how much health will put you at kill range is what it takes to pilot the deck well.

I wouldn't call Dshift a deck that gives a lot of options, Dshift does one thing which is drawing your entire deck while trying to remove early and midrange threats, and eventually nut all over your opponent's face before lategame truly begins. Even aggro decks run hard removal in this game so your big creatures aren't really that versatile, showing them without having the extra turn to get mileage out of them is an extremely desperate play that will be punished 90% of the time

There's a kind of zen to Dshift, either you have your stuff in time or you don't and you lose. You just learn to accept it.
