Today I was playing Haven, against some kind of midrange sword. I only had a plea on board, while he had 4 units with enough damage to kill me. He plays an Alwida's, spawning only the Ward and wasting the Storm unit because his board is full. the he attacked me with 3 of his 4 units, leaving me at 2 hp. His last unit had 6 attack, but he just...ended the turn instead of killing me.

My next turn, I cast Hallowed Dogma on the Plea, draw a Themis and wipe the board. He empties his hand and eats another Themis. After that, I manage to heal up and eventually win. He even disconnected in the end

This is Knife Juggler. Only one class can have it, it can't ping face and you actually pay in full for its effect rather than being 4-5 stats AND "dropped out of college for coin flipping esport career" bullshit swing for 2 cost.

There's not many instances of things like it, and they're generally very conservative. Random discard effects discard one of the lowest cost, so it's easy to control and intentionally cycle dead draws rather than being a stupid drawback meme that no amount of iteration will make good.

Choosing what to discard adds elements of decision making and strategy to the game since you have to really plan ahead and think about which cards you really need, and sometimes it can be a very difficult decision. But random discard just throws all that shit out the window. There's no reason for it to be random. None. It just fucking is because lol. It's pretty obvious they wanted to make Altered Fate and PtP a combo to work together. The problem is that Altered Fate is supposed to be a risk that discards a hand that might be good for a bad one instead of a hand refresh on turn 4 to get rid of all your fairies for good cards. Either way I think they could nerf PtP but still make it useful by making it 6 cost or having the effect activate at the start of your turn. I don't know why people want to nerf PtP by nerfing cards or mechanics around it instead of just nerfing the card itself.

There's a handful of RNG cards but they're all very manageable and nothing completely game-swinging in terms of effect. The biggest offender would likely be Lord of the Flies which summons one of 3 random followers every turn (not that he'll live more than one). A 4/4 taunt, 3/2 rush with bane, and a 2/3 storm with drain. Depending on the board state, what you get could swing the game massively in your favor.

Other RNG cards in the meta (as there's a few more which never see play) are things like Fire Chain and Will of the Forest. Both work basically the same, HS's Arcane Missles that can't go face. However, unless you're desperate, they're often just played as calculated board clears rather than praying they hit that one specific target you need it to.

Elf Child May is similar but is often played early enough that she'll only have one target to hit, anyways. If you draw her later on in the game, though, you could be crossing your fingers for her to hit the right targets.

Erasmus is kind of like Ragnaros but he can't hit face and almost no one plays him anyways but I suppose there's good chance for 1-in-5s to happen whenever he makes an appearance.

take two is great for learning the cards and basic deckbuilding, but it costs money so you might wanna mess around in casual or even ranked for a bit before trying it out. You will be surprised how easy ranked is at <D level unless you meet some sandbaggers. Note that T2 with friends is free to play (no reward though).

ptp elf has 49.5% winrate on ladder according to the latest shadowlog report (compared to tempo elf's 54.4%) so I don't think it is a problem for most people, though it's a different story in master/tournament level.
