I spent all last night and this morning reading the 400 page fanfic I Know that Life is Strange, which involves Max going back at the end of episode 5, making a snap decision and refusing to let Chloe die, and then reliving the entire week and having a chance to change how things happened. I had it on my Kindle and after 400 pages, it ended with Chloe being arrested and the Prescotts getting her story about what Nathan and Jefferson had done discredited, and the whole thing just ended with Chloe crying in an interrogation room and I just about threw my Kindle at the floor.
Then I pulled it up on my computer and realized it was still being written and the story wasn't over.

I've been reading that too. It's gets mixed reactions here on /lisg/.
On one hand it's an interesting concept and some wanted us to have a New Game + option where we could see Max get a better ending in the game. Even though that was obviously not the creator's intentions (But to hell with them. They gave us the crap endings in the first place).
On the other hand, there's plotholes in the story that some cannot overlook and more and more things get thrown in every chapter just to give a new twist/cliffhanger. I can see why some just wouldn't like the idea of the character getting more grief. Especially Chloe.

But if you're liking that story then I would also suggest "New Traffic Pattern" (http://archiveofourown.org/works/7589983/chapters/17270707). It's still in progress as well but it has some similarities. Max thinking she fixed things, and wanting to just move on and rebuild her friendship/relationship with Chloe, but then the Prescott's influence tries to ruin her and Chloe to protect Nathan. Pulling every string they can to make it look like Nathan is an innocent victim.
The story does have a few OCs, the biggest one being an attorney the Caulfields and Prices hire to defend their daughters.

If you like legal and emotional drama then give it a try. It paints Chloe as really smart and notices the tricks crooked cops are trying to get her to fall for. Extremely satisfying when you see she doesn't crack. Plus and absolutely adorable confession of Pricefield love in the latest chapter. Hopefully it updates soon.

It's definitely a great premise, but yeah, there are lots of contrived twists and cliffhangers. I'd love for someone else to try their hand at the same thing. Max refusing to use the rewind even after she has a vision of the storm coming seemed contrived and it popped into my mind every time a rewind would have been useful. The near-constant crying is also getting on my nerves, and it looks like the author is going for the Kate/Victoria angle, which is stupid. Oh, and I hate all the contraction-based nicknames.

I like the Kate/Victoria angle if it's done right, but it's not done very well. TomorrowHeart did it way, way, better in Ouroboros. It actually shows them becoming friends and slowly getting closer. With both Max and Chloe noticing and subtly egging them on.
Rather than suddenly Victoria being in the Dark Room being like "Thinking about Kate will keep me alive" when the day before that she was bullying Kate. Things moved way too quickly there.
As you said, there is a good rpemise and some interesting plotlines in Catboiler's story- but they get rushed or squashed before they can ferment and become good.

There's nothing inherently wrong with it, the problem is the context. The story is completely centered around Max, Chloe, Kate, Victoria, and no one else, and now the author's going to make them all gay/bi. If we assume that ~15% of the population is gay/bi, then the chances of that arrangement happening is about 0.05%. The writing feels like a high school essay, the characters hardly have a distinctive voice or conversational believability altogether. The dialogue almost doesn't even seperate itself from the narration; it's so uninspired in that it lacks most authentic emotionality.

And I didn't read more than a handful of chapters of this continuation story, but from what I've read it makes very little sense both narratively and characterally. Max goes back to the beginning of the week... and everything that was bad about LiS is even worse now. Instead of bonding with Chloe, the author forces her to spend her time getting panic attacks in the Dark Room for days listening to Jefferson's boring drivel.

Like, Max knows one single text message can bust them immediately. She's already done exactly that before. But now she doesn't? She was never scared of Jefferson - the opposite if anything, confronting him multiple times - but now she is shaken to her core by his mere presence? She even lets Kate go to the roof? Is there any justification for this in his story? It seems contrived drama to me, way worse than LiS towards the end had. And I don't see that the drama here serves a purpose either. They had already been through all that, what are the author's intentions for putting them through shit again? Maybe he'll slap some lame "See? They've made it through even more!" at the end and call it a day; it's very much drama for drama's sake. I see no valueable narrative intention. It certainly doesn't seem to explore or expand the characters and relationships I care about.

She still doesn't do anything about the storm. And now Nathan and Jefferson don't even get busted (based on some retardedly naive idea that intimidating a teenage girl could do anything in this FBI serial crime murder case with multiple victims, witnesses and evidence)?

It just seems to me that the author set out to take everything that's bad in LiS and make it even worse.

The premise is that Chloe somehow comes back with Max through the butterfly photo from the cliff, moves to the side so that she doesn't get shot fatally. And then they reconnect, mostly fluff and fun, Max has reoccuring nosebleeds and Chloe dreams of the events Max erased.

While it is funny and a comfortable, mostly enjoyable read, I honestly can't anymore. At least not with significant pauses inbetween. It's comedy to an extent where it can feel like a parodying of the characters. Every second sentence innuendo, pun or tease. The author captures a certain side of thema and their dynamic well, but mostly only that side. It gets very one-dimensional in that. The more sentimentally, quiet significance of the romance and overall feeling of their dynamic is lost a fair but in this overly vulgar, comedic, playful portrayal.

I'm being overly harsh again though. Probably because I'd read too much of it in one go (and because I simply don't like all the drinking, drugs, tats and piercing stuff - his idea of Chloe is very much more that of a "punk"); it does make for a mostly enjoyable read. It's just that, after a while, the thing that makes it so is also what makes it feel somewhat hollow and off-putting.

But for reading a chapter then and again, it's definitely a good fanfic. I've skipped forward and read the latest Christmas thing. Pretty good.

Oh, and it also goes for a Kate/Victoria "angle", so if that's a problem... But making all the characters gay is pretty much what LiS fanfiction does? And frankly, the Kate/Victoria thing has a lot more credibility than... most of every other non-canon pairing people create in fanfiction. There's a fair bit canonical substance for it that you can build on, and Ouroboros does it fairly well - at the least definitely in a believable enough way.

But I get avoiding stories for the pairings alone. Not only does it feel like a violation of "true" romance, at some point it also just stops having anything to do with the game or its characters simply because the pairing doesn't make sense narratively and characterally.

Vic/Kate is minor though - it's a Pricefield fic through and through.

Hm, maybe it aims to give Chloe more agency and has her be the one who has to save Max, now concentrating on her in this legal drama part too. Exploring her in that role and portraying her strength (which is portrayed/established the game too, but not a focal point).
Which is principally an intention I'd consider valueable, but even if it was an intention here, it comes at the cost of contrived drama, and - what's worse - at the cost of them not handling shit together. They are seperated, so the week is not the great bonding experience anymore, couldn't be the healing experience for Chloe either with only more problems to struggle through and no Max to confront her existing, personal ones with.

If Life is Strange were to be made into a trilogy of films, who would you want the cast to be? Who would you want to direct? What would you change/cut from the game?

Wasn't until I got to Chloe's house and heard the flashback where they mention Lara Croft that I realized it couldn't possibly be true that the year was 1995, and how stupid it was to believe so when cellphones, tablets, and laptops are so prominent in the game

The type and nature of the obstacles is important. 'Sides, not every story has to be about overcoming obstacles. LiS already was, and as I've said, they've had to struggle with severe enough shit in my mind - what use is it adding on to that? The game on the surface already very much left them at a broken place it takes a lot of optimism and hope to imagine them getting out of. Not to mention the contrivedness of the obstacles there and in this particular (but a lot of similar) fan story.

I am not conceptually against this kind of stuff. Obviously it can serve a narrative well, both in story-telling and character-building. I am just saying I won't indulge in such stories with these characters if the type or extent of the shit is of a certain kind (sexual threats, for one thing; also one of the things that put me off from his first story), or when the presence of it doesn't add anything to the story as is, when not even the triumph will be any better - more bitter, if anything. Again, slapping a lame "And they worked through even this!" at the end of it does not make for a good story, and I highly doubt this story will be an exception and culminate in something that will have made reading through the unpleasentness worthwhile. Even though drowning is awful and the depictions I've read of people who nearly did die that were were terrifying, it has some beautiful imagery.
A Tsunami would have been a much more destructive disaster than a tornado and probably would have wiped out the entire town. But if Max and Chloe would have to die, at least it would have been holding hands as they were overcome and drifted off together. Then they wake up in a bright place and William, Joyce, and Rachel, are hugging them.

The both of them smell and taste of the sea after a day at the beach. One time Max bought a cheap underwater camera for a trip. She got some photos of Chloe, and underwater selfie, and some fish.
Chloe was amazed and thrilled because she saw a shark. She always enjoyed seeing them at the aquarium when they went there for a date a few times, but to see one in the wild was something new.

Yeah, we have a bit of it with David, Frank and Nathan, and she does help Max - physically at multiple points and mentally throughout it all, of course. But it's true that in terms of the plot, you could make the argument that she has a bit too little agency.

Chloe being the one to save her from the Dark Room would have required extensive re-writes though, obviously. I think having her voice come through to Max in the Nightmare like they'd originally intended, making the point that she pulls her out of it more actively from without - that would have already gone a long way.

Oh, and two more: As in that pic, Chloe being on campus with Max and defending her against some mean remark from someone (possibly Victoria, but then that would have had to happen before the the end of Episode 2, I think - well, depending on whether you save Kate or not I guess).

And after Episode 2, Chloe should have been the one to be there for Max - not necessarily instead of Warren, but that could be a choice or even consequence thing who of the two she seeks comfort in that evening. Would have obviously required a potential rewrite of Episode 3's opening, but that's minor.
