Quick question, just installed the allies unknown mod for 2 but half my human units have the Mass Effect armours, and there's no way to get around this once you get to tier 2 armour, anyway to get around this?

Also is it just me or does the extra mission types mod makes things way easier? Getting a bunch of early free rookies every time you have a siege or rioting city mission takes a lot of challenge away. I'm thinking of putting in the additional dark events mod to balance it out

No ideas about the first one, but in the case of extra mission types. Getting one of those early in the game is cripplingly difficult to me, but that might just because i have about 60 other difficulty mods.

The Land Raider is Xcom's growing arsenal. This asset can go everywhere your Skyranger cannot.

As we grow it can be upgraded with new tools, weapons and armor. It will be the fist of the resistance, carrying troops into the harshest of Xenophobic conditions.

(Introducing new thick forest, jungle, cavern andartic terrainsets)

(Land Raider can be upgraded with Mag Armor, A new Tier 3 Armor and Powered Armor is now moved to Tier 4)

(It can also be equipped with the same with weapons - Mag, Laser is now incorporated into the game from Long Wars Laser Pack)

(It can also be equipped with item helping items and systems)

Lastly, it can later be included in missions as a Tank/Mobile Command Point)

(The Cult of Sirius also has THE SAME ABILITIES and CAN DO IT EARLIER THAN YOU - They can and will drop in Cultist units and Unique Alien/Human Hybrids)

Basically, new vehicle related shit in the area full of crates next to Shens Love Dungeon on the Skyranger

You can use it to plow into the new environs to reach ares the Skyranger can't get to or work effectively.

So you load your squad into the Land Raider and go through those biomes to whatever missions face you within.

Crashed alien ship from the first war - Re-Introduces Cyber Disks and Drones as further evolved machines, the Cyberdisks evolved independantly from their masters before re-joining them after a botched first jungle (story mission)

cultist bases in the ice, in places the Avenger can't land or the Skyranger can't operate through - Deserts and Ice biomes become available.

Also, more missions where you can hit specific Advent supply and logistics bases.

Cult churches in the cities where you have to assassinate a specific leader and the map has very few - but very powerful psionic enemies that will toast you if they know you are coming, some civilians will be hostile to you, others will not - thus not revealing concealment around them,

Well, I downloaded the game and a ton of mods. Apparently there's now a conflict between two of them though, Long War Perk Park and Playable Aliens. Which means I have to choose one.

What the fuck, I wanted to use them both. Which one is better? I want to use aliens in battle as revenge but getting a ton more perks sounds fun as fuck.

Also, I remember at launch that the best way to deal with the doomsday meter was to wait until it was full and then do a enemy base mission. Is that tactic still legit? I really, really don't like being forced to rush things.

Alien Hunters: this dlc basically adds 3 boss aliens to the game and new weapons to take them down, they take a reaction for every action you make and have quite a lot of hp, if you want to spice your campaigns and you are not afraid of challenges give it a go

Shen's last Gift: the sparks are kinda mhe, they feel under powered and dont offer much to replace your regular soldiers but the saving grace of this dlc is the story mission, i really want to see firaxis experimenting more with segmented missions

pretty much yea, encounters with them like every xcom mission thend to go either smoothly or they will wreck your squad and the fact that you can permanently lose the hunter weapons means that you can bone yourself if you are not careful yet i like their addition very much since they tend to be the wild card that you cant see coming and can make a mission a lot more "fun" the xcom brand of fun

This one was set during the events of EU 2012 and the player character (people in the thread would vote on what actions this character could take) was a teenage (iirc) female civilian who was currently the most psionically powerful person on earth.

The intro action was that one day she came home and aliens had destroyed her house and possibly abducted her parents. There's a brief scuffle with them, I don't remember the specifics, but I think both XCOM and EXALT end up engaging them? Anyway, the interesting part (along with the setup) was that the main character chooses to go with EXALT.

You need a degree of experience before going the sword route. Phantom helps you more at the beginning in your first Ranger. Go Blademaster on the second or third one for mid to late game.

Recon, motherfucker. Phantom lets you dedicate your ranger into scouting ahead, letting you know where the other pods are and what they're composed of, making it much easier to plan ahead. It also means that your ranger will be concealed at the start of VIP extraction and retaliation missions.

SATO (good guys) armor seems to be between Tier 1 and 2 but the SDF's armor looks incredibly bulky and higher tech. Could be an easy tier 2-3.

I'd say Advanced Warfare's armor would fit into Tier 2 quite well also.

A better Advent Better pods does that, the PLUS! version increases them even more. I don't remember if you need to use A Better Advent to use that though, but if you do, then get IESS and IESS++, it says that they don't work after the alien rulers patch, but it does, unless one of the most recent patches broke them. Never heard of Double Enemy counts.

Well i have a lot of alien mods, but i had the opposite issue, i very rarely saw Elite vipers.

Actually, since /xcg/ has such a love of elite military operators and cheeki breeki, ports of the armor from the Metro redux series would go really far in appeasing both sides. It's diverse and visually appealing, but tactical at the same time.

Plus, the textures are high enough in resolution that some butt hurt, ungrateful commentors on Steam won't be able to complain about its eastern European extravagance.

Disabling the mod isn't going to break saves, is it? There's no specific research or text related to the new enemies so it should be save-game compatible.

Playing Xcom 2 on a toaster that can barley run minimum is actually an advantage against sneks

Ah it's no problem. Most people understand that assets from previous gen games aren't going to be up to modern standards. It is incredible how quickly graphics are improving though, a strategy game has far better textures than a character centric rpg that's just a few years old.

And that's why I absolutely hate LW. The flying drone would be a fun addition if it was limited to debuffing and supporting like tossing smoke grenades and such, but no, they can snipe you just as well as any other unit can. And they have truckloads of armor lategame, around 5 I think. Plus 20% innate defense.

I just wanted more variety like they did with the new ADVENT troops.

Thinking about making a tanky-ish phantom/conceal-ranger with BladeStorm & Untouchable.
Talk me out of it.

My reasoning is that they're going to be doing 2 things:
1. Scouting ahead & setting up squadsight ambushes
2. Using the conceal-crit to take out 2 high-priority targets during the mission

Phantom, shadowstrike, conceal & rapidfire are self-explanatory for those goals.
As for bladestorm & untouchable:
Untouchable is useful since the scout's going to be opening ambushes- they're going to be close to the enemy, they're going to get a kill, and they might be in a vulnerable position if shit hits the fan. This ability will allow them to absorb fire in their forward position & help counteract mild-moderate shit-fan situations.
BS- this is only going to be useful in 2 situations: if your ranger is concealed & an enemy walks right up to them, or they're being attacked by a melee enemy. As such a scout can actually make use of the former if they're accidentally revealed in tight quarters, and the latter helps improve their survivability, serving the same purpose as untouchable in drawing some enemy attention & surviving it.

Why not the alternatives?
Deep cover isn't going to be very beneficial to a scout ranger. They aren't going to be using the overwatch+hunker synergy very often, they aren't going to be rungunning or blindly sprinting into cover, and if they get exposed by a patrol that hunker isn't going to help them.
Implacable is useful for hit & run tactics. This synergizes well with Run+Gun, and lets squishy rangers potentially avoid shit-fan situations. However, this scout-ranger doesn't have R+G, and they don't need to avoid the shit-fan if they have a charge of untouchable.

Am I wrong & why?

I don't think there are any flaws in your thinking. Implacable is nice, but it's not so black and white as other perk choices. Bladestorm doesn't have as much impact if you don't have blademaster (more damage, and better chance to hit), though it's not a bad perk.

Honestly when I think about it, they both are build defining perks, so just take your pick. The only thing I would say is that implacable does let you aggressively attack from normally unsafe locations (out of cover, flanked, by a care, etc.) and then relocate it, so it can really enable you to go in harder if you want to.

Yep. x% chance to only take half damage. A unit can't roll for dodge if the hit chance is 100%. I also think that if you get successful dodge roll, that it overrides a crit roll, but I'm not certain on that.

Projectictiles had physics, and hits were decided by whether they collided with something, much like standard shooter. So yeah, "missed" rounds could hit enemies, friendlies, ivies, and terrain.

They kind of have a simulated version in the newer xcoms, which is where the terrain getting rekt by stray fire originated from.

I don't get it, you missed a shot, and the aliens attacked, and one of your soldiers got wounded, and you think this is bad because if you don't kill every ayy they have a chance to retaliate, but you also don't want to use tools and items to stop them from retaliating?

I honestly don't get this complain, of course my game is modded to hell and back but i assume that applies to everyone here, but i've gotten on a lot of sticky situations where you accidentally activate multiple pods or you simple fuck up and the aliens get their turn and it has never been as soul crushingly devastating as people say. I mean sure, soldiers die and soldiers get wounded but unless it's very early in the campaign that's not going to end your campaign.

And if the problem is that it happens early in the campaign then the solution is relatively simple, just make it so you start facing off against very few aliens, pods of 2 or 3 max, and then as the game progresses you end up against pods for 6 or 9 and shit like that.

I'm sorry but i honestly don't understand what the problem is, but i keep seeing people complain that it's always successful alpha strike or wipe and that's not what i have encountered, especially when you have the option to retreat in almost every mission, please explain.

Blowing up the enemies' cover with your 4 grenadiers and mopping up with your ranger isn't

One playstyle will get you killed in a month, the other is the only way to actually play the game past Veteran

It also doesn't help that every mission has a timer so by definition every turn you spend tied up in a fight with a well entrenched enemy is a turn less you have to deal with the objective at hand. EW and LW did timers perfectly, you could either play it high speed low drag and get some sweet delicious meld for your ballsy gold-move-rookies-into-the-obvious-bait-meld play or you could take your time and forgo the meld. Meanwhile in X2 your only option is to rushdown and slay the fuck out of everything the turn you find them

Well i can see your point, but i don't entirely agree. Mostly because i've never had 4 grenadiers and the rest rangers and still managed to beat the game on commander.

And there are mods to disable timers so you can play however you like. I do think cover and some abilities like flush and supression should be more powerful though.

Honestly, I'd look to a combination of how LW and Piratez did this. While soldiers could (and often did) get wounded, I never felt crippled by their loss to bedrest.

I, too, noticed that grenadiers were way too powerful in X2, to the point where I played the whole game and the final mission with 3 of them (RIP me since you couldn't shoot past the two statues in the final boss room).

Though it feels cheap, perhaps consider reducing the defense value of cover and balancing the rest of the game to compensate for that?

I don't know. I don't feel like I can adequately explain why X2 feels like a game about "you must alpha strike the enemy in order to win" where the first did not, and the original did not.

As far as canon goes, I think they left it deliberately fuzzy.
I don't think XCOM had even encountered them by the time they lost the war, and given the EXALT bandana the devs wanted to make it clear they could even be a part of the resistance now.

As for what WOULD have happened- the ayys were using them as a human splinter group. They had a complete counter-council, (illuminati), which would have no doubt eliminated their competition & taken control under a new alien regime if they'd been both successful & relevant.

However, since the Ayys quickly crushed the human resistance, EXALT would have been more or less useless to them. Their organization would have been too weak to be useful, especially compared to all the original council-members & (especially) their governments- governments which became the ayys' willing servants, bringing all of their logistics, troops, human test-subjects, and infrastructure with them. Along with most of XCOM's old recruit pool.

Given that, EXALT would have scattered to the wind (with the ayys on hot pursuit- there'd be no room for a human illuminati group in an alien administration) & those whose cover was blown would become the resistance (and new XCOM).

Bolt caster on a specialist. Increases both their damage & their accuracy early-game. Rangers already have shotguns, so the extra accuracy & low stun chance just isn't worth the loss of 3 rounds in the clip.

Can't do meatgrinder because RPG mechanics have to be in every game genre. And admittedly making builds for soldiers is fun.

But yeah, the most key change of LW was the massive survivability increase. Soldiers can take a hit or even two, all game long, cover doesn't break and cars don't explode on every miss, and while fatigue was hated for a long time eventually people started appreciating how much less punishing casualties are due to fatigue.

The devs went out of their way to keep exalt as a separate entity from the ayys, it's only in LW that they would appear on the same mission. One anon's headcannon was that exalt have no contact with the ayys but want them to win so they can rule over what's left once the ayys leave. Have AI go rogue against Advent. Those drones are one of the not so bad aliens in that mod imo. A specialist can one shot them with combat protocol or you can hack them very easily. I also think that defense makes sense since they're small so they would be harder to hit, also their aim is shit. Even when they flank enemy they have like 50% chance to hit, or at least that's how it was when I hacked them. Muton Elites are simply shit though

So this is a really weird specific bug, whatever combinations of mods/load order I have produced this very specific bug under a very specific circumstance, with a very specific effect that I can repeat over and over.

The first thing is second wave reborn, when in the avenger if I pause the game and go to the second wave menu then leave it I can no longer pause the game which forces me to alt f4, then after starting the game once it seems normal but when I start it a second time many mods are broken such as free camera rotation, evac all, display health values, ect. Then I have to clear the config files. Then I have to enable all the broken mods before everything else or they won't work. Thing is none of them override the same files except for screen listeners but not all of those are broken and some of the broken mods don't use screen listeners. Finally if additional maps are enabled which I had active prior to the bug, whenever I start a tactical game the screen flickers to shit with green and purple lighting all over everything. If the additional maps are enabled first though this doesn't happen... So what the fuck? Why does this happen?

What he said. I don't think it makes the game much easier though, especially if you are using other difficulty mods, the start of the game is always the hardest and at the start of the game you can't afford to stop magnetic weapons research to open loot boxes.

honestly, midgame i'm always surprised about all the DpT resting within my squad. Like i'll walk into a sticky situation and go at least half beagle to end the turn in my favour.
And once i start handing out weapon upgrades and pcs and bluescreen / ap ammo, i go from "oh shit oh shit oh shit" to "ayoo where them pods at"


At some point i really want to send 6 rookies into a lategame mission with superior scope rifles, AP rounds and superior perception pcs and look at how good they're doing
