KO and Koirizo aren't actually considered bad by most of the thread, just rather generic. Shuffle is legitimately painful to read at points. I was serious about my standards being permanently damaged by it. It's just that bad.
The sequels aren't anywhere near as bad, although they're still not good.

the anime was an abomination. It cut it up into thousands of little pieces and just jammed some together, while rewriting the entire plot for every single route.
The only thing that's probably doesn't change much is amane's route, since they spent a quarter of the fucking season on it. I couldn't tell you for sure about that since I dropped it like a fucking brick.

The story is great. And the Ein ending doesn't have that absolutely retarded diabolus ex machina that the anime had in the last minute.
But the DVD format is awkward and unenjoyable, and using passwords as save points is not fun.
It's worth it, but you really need to put aside decent segments of time between each password save point, and call a stop if you don't have at least an hour.
Also, there's some great endings. Like the one where Zwei completely gives up on being a decent human being, and re-brainwashes all of Scythes assassins to serve him, decapitating the entire Inferno leadership in one bloody night and seizing the organization with his harem of hypnotised murder bots.

I'm normally against the whole 'Japanese dude gets pulled into bloody environment and is better at it than anybody else because reasons', as it's basically a non-fantasy Isekai, but the VN does a really good job of presenting it, unlike most such stories. By the end of the story, Zwei doesn't even consider himself to be Japanese and admits that his attempt to live as a High School student was just pathetic escapism.
There's also the fact that Ein, who's arguably the most consistently lethal character, is Mongolian.

Personally I think Refrain is one of the best things Maeda has written, but the character routes in Little Busters are quite weak. Kanon is probably their most universally consistent game, followed by Clannad. Little Busters has a lot of problems and Rewrite is an inconsistent mess. Plenatarian is overrated and Air is the reason we have magic reset endings in every Maeda-written game.
I haven't read AB! yet, if Maeda doesn't die it'll probably end up being pretty good.

I wouldn't call myself clever but, unless you were to play only the first route and end with the normal ending, it's hard to see what is exactly hard to get. Which is why I thoroughly enjoyed the first route, as it plays one of my favourite tropes (amnesia) and always keeps this unsettling feeling of dread and horror by doing abnormal things without telling you why. One of my favourite moments is perhaps the library/bathroom scene where Watase is really losing it with all those visions and things he hears but getssparked up by the memory of his sister.

Hi, I read the entirety of Princess Evangile as it came out and I feel like I'm being generous when I give it a 4/10. It's a convoluted mess that reads like it was written by a 12 year old. The Japanese fanbase refuses to so much as give Kure the time of the day nowadays for good reason.
Honestly, I find the extent to which the western fanbase is obsessed with PE to this day to be frightening in a sense. I have no idea how you guys can drone on about it day after day nearly five years after the game was released; Kure is a hack who has no idea how to actually tell a story that does anything except continually bait the reader with shit drama and empty promises of good romance. He's always been like this will never improve.
Like I said, almost no Japanese fan cares about Kure nowadays, and it's because they've had enough exposure to him to see through his tricks and stop falling for his brand of spectacle and sophistry. His terrible, childish text is part of the problem too - there are parts of PE that have such embarrassingly poor writing that they're used as copypasta on 2ch.
I don't know how the western fanbase continues to put up with Kure, and I honestly feel that it's damaging to the community as a whole to continue to obsess this much over a single work so long after the fact. The amount of PE discussion is one of the reasons people who read untranslated eroge feel so disconnected from the broader western fanbase, and it's not hard to see how stifling this level of obsession can be if you take a step back. This applies to other games as well and I suppose to a degree it comes part and parcel with the reality that you guys are exposed to such a tiny slice of what's out there, but when the game in question is something as obviously and majorly flawed as PE, I can't help but feel a sense of unease, I guess you could say.
