Yes I have. Here's the thing. Sonic doesn't NEED this thing. This would enhance it, sure. But when I'm playing sonic I'm rarely thinking "But WHY am I destroying robots." put down the controller and buy a marvel book.
I understand that a backstory could help, but I also understand it could be cringey as hell.

I say this as someone who hates Shadow the Hedgehog with a passion. I don't mind the characters how they are. I'd much rather develop them FURTHER than take a step backwards.
If I was going to write more stuff for sonic I'd have stuff like characters keeping their characterization from the end of adventure or Have sonic keep the ring he got from chip. Not go back to eggman's stupid past to figure out why the villain is so angry. That's unnecessary for my understanding of the story and characters. It's BABY'S FIRST CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. It's really limited and cliché and there's like a HANDFUL of good things you could do with it. Even Dr. Wily is cliché as shit. And Eggman, who is a literal Evil moustache twirling villain is somehow LESS cliché because he's just a character that's evil and enjoys being evil. The fact that he's so pure and legitimate in his evilness with no backstory almost makes how cliché he is much more enjoyable. Instead of having to roll my goddamn eyes at some story about how he was jealous or his ideas weren't understood or how he was laughed out of town.

Patreon first and foremost is a tipjar. People that use it as a full paywall are going against what Patreon was going for.
