Bethesda benefits a lot from the community and interest that the modding for these games in general fosters. They surely know this, too - keeping the game/DLC files unencumbered by BS is a big part of making modding accessible and reasonable doable. I don't doubt for a second that this _vastly_ outweighs any benefit they might effect by instituting a DRM paradigm in excess of what FNV brought (i.e. Steamworks encryption against the executable).

I have a few basic ideas for future Fallout games

1. Fallout: Seattle. It would be a game that would focus mainly on the expansion of the Great Khan Empire across the Northwest, as suggested in that one ending for New Vegas. The NCR would be basically nonexistent in the area except maybe a few long range scouts.

2. Fallout: Chicago. Chicago is probably the best city in the Midwest to set a Fallout game. It has a long history of mob violence, which could play into local gangs. Is the home base of the Midwestern BoS, a faction that has been pretty reclusive since the end of Tactics, and its located pretty centrally in the Midwest, giving easy access to Detroit, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, and St Louis as possible DLC locations.

3. Fallout: Miami. Would be a large paradigm shift compared to past Fallout games, with the overwhelming majority of the population being non-feral ghouls, with humans and the oppressed minority group.

4. Fallout: New Orleans. If there is any city that best represents the south, it would be New Orleans. It would be cool to see a Fallout game set in a heavy swamp area. With New Orleans possibly being the home of some southern republic.

5. Fallout: Ronto. After taking the Capital Wasteland in Fallout 3, and The Commonwealth in Fallout 4, as well as The Pitt sometime after Fallout 4, The Brotherhood of Steel sets their sites on the last major city of the post-war North-East. The Canadian city of Toronto. Only to find that Ronto has been taken over by descendants of the pre-war military soldiers who occupied the city. forming their own BoS like entity, except far more draconian and overbearing then even the MWBoS are.

Modern worldbuilding/storytelling is hard.
TES is a mostly freeform fantasy game without strict rules.

Wasteland Workshop gives you access to the Fusion Generator, the ones that have Fusion Cores (doesn't need one, though) and has 100 Power.
Contraption Workshop gives conduits that you can snap together (looks good to a degree).
Vault-Tec DLC gives you access to Reactor and Super Reactor, which gives 150 and 500 Power respectively.

From what I remember, you should still be able to use the rug trick. Put a conduit on a rug, connect it to a powered conduit, then simply move the rug. Pick up the rug and place it every few feet to make sure it stays connected, but you should be able to do that and pull the wire through the wall.

As far as a mod equivalent, I don't know, there might be?

There is something wrong though, the Giant Cazadores are spazzing out and blitzing across the map for whatever reason.
Every once in a while one spazzes into the area I'm in and fucks my shit up.
I also think they attack wildlife.
It makes for a cool headcanon, that this is just how they usually behave in universe.

Well I finally finished the base game and I can promptly say the biggest, most glaring flaw is the voiced protagonist and the written character because as it stands now I have no desire to replay the game.

God knows how many characters I played in New Vegas. From enlightened Caesar couriers to the Han Solo like rogue who played by House's rules. But in FO4 you are the same guy/girl every time.

Don't get me wrong, the ride was good enough. No where near enough choice, and don't even get me started on the dialogue. But it was still fun enough in my opinion to justify the 100 hours I put in. It did not however earn that Fallout title though.

I think I'm going to keep it like this. I'm still waiting for textures on the barrel clamps. I'm going to adjust the damage to be lower. Basically each shot will fire an additional 31 bullets so you will get a better accuracy without resorting to making it explosive. The damage is spread out across each projectile.

One thing I noticed during tests however is that it will basically instantly cripple every body part on some creatures, though.

Up close, the minigun would absolutely shred anything. But past 10 or 20 yards the accuracy drops so bad you lose like 90% damage.

That's already incredibly small for a minigun. That is better than tri-barrel accuracy.

If I made the spread smaller, I'd probably change the amount of projectiles fired, too. I kinda like how it fires a hail of bullets in a cone, so it can hit multiple targets. Making it super accurate seems like it would diminish its effectiveness at crowd control, I dunno.

Making a unique gun is one thing, fucking with all the ammo and leveled lists and prices is another thing entirely. That could also potentially cause conflicts.

Or the alternative, go slow and strong, like some kind of rapid fire autocannon. Would fit with the ridiculous barrel length, but slightly clash with the extra barrels and that cooling system you slapped on the drum which both say speed.
Or you could fluff the multiple barrels as being extra heat syncs. Since it would be firing a higher caliber cartridge, the barrels would need longer to cool, so extra barrels means there's more time per barrel to cool off without sacrificing too much fire rate.

Can you make it require the PA suit? Since the real m134s are always mounted and electro motor powered instead of gas or recoil operated they have almost no recoil at all which makes it laser accurate especially at the very short distances of FO4s combat.

It will be in the deepest parts of the glowing sea so you will basically NEED power armor or high Special to go retrieve it, and I will also have the area surrounding it filled with tons of deathclaws. Why didn't Bethesda just make the power armor suit break down after the Concord quest(like have the deathclaw damage the core, player is ejected and the whole thing blows up killing the monster) and you spend the next 10-15 hours gathering all the parts you need to rebuild it. There will be a lot of different options for shit, pick whatever you like. There should be a folder called "Tools" in there. Merge that with the tools folder in the bodyslide and outfit studio folder.

You don't need the esp or any of that stuff to be in data, you can put it anywhere. I keep things tidy by making a single folder for all my bodyslide stuff. All that said, there are a few annoying things that kinda bug me about updating bodyslide, 2pacs sliders don't work with it anymore...I have to do some jury rigging or keep older versions around for making stuff with the ab sliders.

Hello? Game keeps crashing whenever the Monsignor area or MIT is approached. For some reason only one of the two save files are affected. The other is not. Uninstalling all of the mods didn't do a thing. Finally, for some reason the Fort Hagen satellites and an overpass near the Nuka Transit Center keep glitching in and out of sight.

Supposedly this was fixed last year but it's somehow back. Is there anyway to fix this?

Oh, and both save files have lots of active quests and none of them have beaten the game.

Sure it undermines the theme of the story, but if Nate wanted to, as the director of the Institute, I don't see why he couldn't make a synth clone of his wife, or even eventually find a way to repair her brain damage.

The Institute will probably also find out how to cheat death without becoming a monster attached to a lot of tubes and bulbs, so it wouldn't surprise me if in his elderly years as the director, he revives Nora and has them teleport her there and he explains everything to her, and gives her a synth Clone of himself, and a synth baby that can grow like a normal human so she could be happy.

If the Institute keeps fucking around with Gen 3 synths I'm sure they'll reach a point where they can age and reproduce by the time the SS is an old man.

Anyone already found how the sighting nodes work now? Trying to fix the mp40 on the nexus (adding leveled lists and whatnot) but I'm having some trouble with fixing the sights, as it centers above the front sight ring.
Tried to add a ZoomDataCameraOffsetZ property at the ck, but it won't do it, by the point it's finally centered I already have the back of the receiver blocking the view, it seems it either offsets the 1st person camera relative to some aim node (which I haven't found yet on nifskope, now works differently from 3/nv), or the modeler fucked up and the front sight is too low.
One of the solutions I thought of is tilt the weapon's front up just a tiny bit, so I can adjust the offset freely without blocking the view, but I'd rather find and fix the aim itself. Thoughts?

Its always raining or foggy in Far Harbor, and you almost have to have the damn PA jetpack to get around quickly. I think there should have been more settlements there, Cranberry Island could have been a nice place to harvest tarberries....and there's basically no settlements on the lower half of the Island.

If I remember correctly, there's red wires connecting from the three lights on the bunker door that lead to the three power sources, so if you follow the leads, you'll find the three sources. Also, at least the reward you get from the locked room is nice (not the bunker, the key from inside the bunker).

I did up a quick mod that makes Curie "Like" when the player hacks computers. It makes sense to me, and is also nice, because Curie is one of the few followers that doesn't have an easily repeatable source of affinity (lockpicking, hacking, w/e).

The whole affinity system is nice and wall, but its not without its quirks. Piper fell in love with my SS because I'm really good at picking locks. And everyone's headcanon now is that she likes it because she thinks about you fingering her with those skilled hands.

Alright, so I just dug into the scripting for this. It looks like the buff is an infinite duration spell against the player for the particular SPECIAL stat that the furniture item in question applies. It definitely _only_ counts for the player though - everything in WorkshopSpecialBuffScript is in a "if akActionRef == Game.GetPlayer()" block.

Well, you should know what ENB file you downlaoded. On the nexus there's a bunch of different presets, so knowing what you downloaded is pretty much your starting point. Then, you could check if the visual result is what you expected, or not. From a realistic standpoint sure, from a mechanics standpoint they were rather pointless.

STR requirements in games serve a mechanical purpose of making you level up the STR stat to properly use a weapon.

The problem with that is that skills, or perks in Fallout 4's case, already serve that mechanical purpose.

By having both in one game, all you do is devalue both by having two things do the same thing.

Skills now being slightly less meaningful because, even at 100 skill, your still not a master of a gun type because of the STR requirement

And the STR stat become less meaningful in that regard for the same reason, even if you have the proper STR level, you still aren't a master of that gun type because you don't have the skill level.

This is why most games don't have STR requirements on weapons unless its like some elder god slaying tier ultima weapon thing.

playing on survival and using the console to save, I got an explosive DB at level 7 off the roach in Concord civic access in less than 10 minutes. then I got an instigating hunting rifle off the Mirelurk in the quarry at level 10, took me a bit longer though.

now at level 17 I've been rerolling the prefix on the ghouls at the training yard for an explosive combat shotgun. I've been at it for over 5 hours.

Fallout 4 mods are pretty underwhelming because Bethesda took all the big mods from Fallout 3 and NV(sans nude mods and the like OFC), and made them offical content in the DLC.

There is very little incentive for people to make big mods because 90% of that shit is in the game already, and they can just release smaller tweaks for it.

All people REALLY have to make are nude mods, more weapons/armor, and the handful of quest mods every Beth game gets

Fast travelling from the nuka world red rocket to the shovel museum makes all the enemies respawn for some reason regardless of time. If you need to find raiders after Open Season there you go. At least one of the raiders is legendary too even on normal. Though sometimes the enemies inside the place are scavengers instead of gunners or super mutants. There seems to be no limit and they will spawn infinitely

What I find interesting is that the general consensus nowadays with Fallout 4 is that it's whether people consider it good or bad, it's still disappointing for the majority of fans. It's not like Fallout 3 or New Vegas where people are still arguing over which is better and having hugely different opinions on it, the majority seems to all agree that 4 is lacking in tons of areas.

the biggest issue with it for me is the lack of any other settlements except for good neighbor and diamond city. The world feels extremely empty unless you settlement shit up and even then, there's nothing interesting about your settlers. I think that could have been supplemented by having unique settlers in the spawn lists for certain settlements that add side quests and shit. I think tying settlement objects to quests could have helped as well. Have either the minutemen or some other faction help organize runs on certain ruins to gain supplies. Like combing through one of the hospitals unlocks medical supplies. Unlocking medical supplies can allow a unique doctor settler to be attracted to that settlement. Things like that. The castle was a huge wasted opportunity as well.

I was wondering why I couldn't find any reference to sneak either in fo4edit and the ck, until I tested ingame, the multiplier worked everytime. Double damage, x2 damage message, all was still there. If it isn't enough, I could 1-hit-kill the raiders I spawned while sneaking, but only took half the health bar away while standing, hitting the same body parts.

Oh well, one less thing to worry about.

Like, this isn't like Skyrim where most of the cut content was just a random NPC. The game has a severe problem of lack of concrete quests and they cut about one third of it, all of which seems like really interesting shit that would actually give life to the Commonwealth as a Wasteland?

Skyrim has MILES more cut content including 90% of the cxivil war, and the entire radiant favor system that was supposed to be like 5 times more ocmplex then what we got.

Fallout 4 has far LESS cut content by comparison.

I recall Emil talking about how the Salem Witchcraft museum quest went through like 5 different revisions.

In one it was supposed to be the center of a battle between two towns. but when they built the actual game map, they realized they didn't have the space for one of the towns(that was based on a real town).

Another one was supposed to have the place being used by a group of "witches" who used radiation based magic powers. but ultimately they had to cut that idea because they didn't have the time or budget to port over the part of Skyrim's magic system that would be needed ot make it work for just one quest.

Most cut content is usually cut because it simply wasn't fun, they didn't have the time/budget to do something that specialized for just one quest, or due to scripting error s that couldn't be resolved

There are no good cut content mods for Skyrim.

The Civial war shit is so complex scripting wise that even modders have only been able to implement a few of the features, and its a buggy, game killing, mess.

Arthmoor has a "Skyrim cut content restored" mod, but its all just the REALLY small shit. Nothing really major was restored by it.


New Vegas has the "uncut" series of mods, but those only really restore like 1/20 of all the cut shit, because the rest is so incomplete its impossible to restore.

Originally Skyrim was going to have a massive radiant favo system with over 250+ different radiant favors that would interact with each other. In the released game, only about 30 of them remain, and none of them interact with each other.

Except the Civil War Overhaul shows exactly that the cut parts of the civil war weren't minor, and that mod doesn't even restore all of it either.

There was a Reddit post that came up like 6+ months before FO4's announcement from a supposed ex-Bethesda employee.

He talked about a Vault containing cats, etc. Like stuff that was just too accurate not to be mere coincidence. Nora was originally called Lydia and he said there was a quest where you revive her after Synths invade the Vault and kidnap your baby. He also mentioned some weird shit that never was in the final game though, like the SS being able to have a sex change.

Anyway, Piper was originally going to be a synth version of Nora from what I've heard. I guess she'd only be a companion if you joined the Institute. But then they realized they'd have to do this shit for Nate, too, when people were worried you wouldn't be able to play as a female. I'm pretty sure they were privately posting on forums gauging reactions from people when they posted things about the SS ONLY being male, and the artwork / storyboards heavily implied the main character would only be male. They'd have to voice so much extra dialog for both Nate and Nora.

I still think they should have kept that quest in, or add it in a DLC...but tl;dr - Piper was more than likely originally going to be synth Nora but she evolved into some post-war journalist, and forced her into the story without tying her to the Institute faction. They even gave her the same hair.

There was also a cut dungeon quest that was going to have you collect those overdue books, and return them to the boston library so they could be added back into the batabase.

Once you returned enough, you were supposed to get the Library archive on a holodisk and deliver it to someone who worked with those dead guys you can find in the Library.

It wasn't going to be a quest one would have in their pipboy, just something you could do

Bethesda never talks about cut content except on very rare occasions.

The only time I can recal them ever publically talking about why somethign was cut was in reagrds to Oblivion's second main quest, which would have had the player become a Duke/Duchess of cyrodiil, and rise the ranks of royalty until they became a member of the Elder Counsel.

It was apparently cut pretty early on because they found the idea interfered with the actual main quest

Its not just Bethesda.

In general, its considered a bad idea to remove anything at all from a game once added.

Even if it goes unused, it may be indirectly referenced by something else that is used, and removing it could break that thing, and anything else connected to it.

This is why cut content exists in game in general.

You generally do not remove something once added, even if you decide not to use it, unless its some really bizarre circumstances.

Only visual mod required is Darker Nights, since the game is designed to be playable on very low contrast laptop screens (<500:1) which is terrible on a native 3000:1 VA panel.

It still makes me laugh how every other game can have a fucking brightness or gamma slider but not Bethesda titles.
