Something is not right... right?

I have three cities, and the entertainment complex is built. The two other city centres are within 6 tiles of my entertainment complex, but I don't get extra amenities for that. But as I understand it, I'm supposed to get that. What's wrong? To make sure, I have even built entertainment complexes in all three cities, but that doesn't help. Well, it did help with one of the cities for some reason (the capital). It's not limited to the capital, is it?
>>
>>160190779
You need a worker made in the modern? era or later.
>>
>>160191938
My understanding, which could be very wrong, is that your resource-based amenities will redistribute based on which cities have the fewest amenities. This means that when you make amenity building they increase the amenities for that city, which reshuffles the resource amenities to other cities.

Yes, the amenities for luxury resources may get distributed elsewhere, but I'm looking at the city details, and I'm seeing that the entertainment amenity is not listed there. Only 1, for my own entertainment complex, but it should be 2, because of the bonus. As I understand it, these won't be distributed to other cities, as they are local. I don't get it.

What the fuck
just happened

I was playing civ 6 as Aztecs, Im a fairly new player so its only King for now for me
Alone on an entire continent
Trying to go for a science victory but it takes so long
I have to wage war on Scythia cause she was nearing a religious victory I think my cities were left for her
fast forward
I declare a colonial war against Russia cause I think he had farmed spies and kept killing my industry district
AND
wtf
when I destroyed his last city, I.. lost?
It showed like a destroyed city, as if I was playing as Russia?
what the fuck was that, why did I lose?

Do the entertaiment buildings allow specialists? As i recall only the buildings in a district like factory and whatnot spread their bonuses, so i'm guessing it's only the bonus tied to that specific building's specialist, which would be the second one in the case of the factory i'm guessing.

>>
>>160199131
Civ 5 is the game for you (and only you). You aren't necessarily rewarded for being small, so much as you're punished severely for having more than 4-5 cities.

It's like Civ 6 except happiness is global, and the biggest cause of happiness is having people and cities. So if you capture a city, all of your other cities get to such a level of unhappiness that your entire empire comes grinding to a halt.

this seems like a pretty atrocious bug

wiped out germany and the city says it has 18 hammer but it takes 6 turns to make a 20 hammer scout?
i dont see any notice anywhere of a penalty such as occupied penalty but it seems bugged.

it is only applying to his capital and not to the other 2 cities i took from him.

I'm pretty sure the cost of that scout is just not updated. No way in hell they cost 20 when a good city, especially a german one, can easily shit out two or three times as much in one turn by the industrial era
>>
>>160201340
no ive had the city for two dozen turns and just now noticing its building things far too slow.

So, let's just shit all over the thread instead of having actual discussions? Yeah, it's unpolished to say the least and yes, it's gonna be much better with patches and expansions, everyone knows that. It's still enjoyable and there's no reason to freak the fuck out at everyone who does enjoy the game in its current state despite knowing that it's unfinished
>>
Anyone aurora 4x here?
>>
>>160201993
Judging a game merely in its current state is like judging Magnus Carlsen as a chess player when he was 7 years old. It's like watching a gifted child clearly with tons of potential, and ignore it thinking he is a shitty chess player because he is yet to become great. It's narrowminded to judge a game without also looking at its potential with patches.

>>
>>160202580
Because people on 4chan who totally aren't shills are telling you to buy it because, eventually, one day, it may have 10% chance of being good.
>>
>>160202706
Kinetics are the best, both for starting with and in the long run. You should research Plasma weapons later down the line, though. Missiles are decent early on, but once Point Defense appears they're shit. Lasers are meh.

Wormhole is the best, but if you don't wanna deal with vulerable infrastructre, you should pick warp. Hyperdrive is trash right now.

>>
Why did they ruin Stellaris with this FE shit. I understand that they wanted to make FE's more interesting, but how the fuck is making them like that "pirate" event on steroids with the difference that basically makes the FE awakening an event that makes most, if not all diplomacy completely redundant, forces you to dismantle or leave your federation, ditch your allies, ditch your vassals, ditch any fucking choice you have in the course of the game while forcing you to disband most of the fleets you have built, because you can't not become a vassal for the FEs. You can't fucking say no to them, because they always awaken way before you are anywhere fucking near the point where you can challenge them and if you say no, you just lose the fucking game. Period.

Fuck. I really had high expectations for the Heinlein patch, but this shit made the end game even shittier.

What the fuck is the point of the diplomacy screen with the FEs anyway if you can't do fucking anything with them? You can insult them and make deals that they will fucking say no to by default.

I'm fucking amazed that anyone at Paradox thought this shit is a good idea.
>>
>>160202950
Most people play on epic timescale just so they can use their armies before they become obsolete. I don't know how - the game is so tedious that even on standard you can't get through a game in one sitting.
>>
>>160204045
that must be the most boring shit ever
I played one civ v game on marathon and it really took its toll on me.

Even with the Boost mechanics of Civ VI, I feel as if it runs out of shit to do and just gets sort of boring after a while.
>>
>>160195118
Next time read the specifics on how victories work, anon. Religious victories happen when you convert the majority of cities from every civs.

You were already converted and destroyed the only civ which wasn't fully converted yet.

I only play with religious victories disabled, desu. You can't counter a religious victory if you don't build a religion of your own, and the AI manages to take all prophets before you've even built your holy district.

i think they did a good job in 6 making units take longer to obsolete. its more about quantity over quality and then eventually you can form them into corps.
>>
>>160202950
I was about to stop playing, then I found out about mods. One that improves the AI and another one that tweaks the whole strategic resource thing made the game more challenging and interesting to play.

A little information: Usually, you will see that the AI will have several outdated military units, even when they're on more advanced ages. This happens because they're either unable to find strategic resources, or didn't bothered researching the techs.

One mod allows everyone to build all units without having strategic resources (but gives you a damage boost if you do have the iron to strengthen your swordsmen, for instance). This change already made the game harder and more interesting, as the AI will actually attack you with a strong army.

Couple that with a mod that improves the AI, and another one that reduces warmongering penalties and you have a great game to play.
>>
>>160204028
FE's are doomed to fail in Stellaris until they completely redo diplomacy, because as-is diplomacy is worthless. There's zero meaningful interaction between civilizations besides war. The diplomacy functions are way too limited and stilted to get anything done, and the AI is too bumfuck retarded to engage in any kind of negotiation. I wanted to play a peaceful empire and was forced to go to war with my neighbors because the game gave me absolutely no diplomatic recourse for having my demands met. The solution to literally every dispute is go to war.

>>
>>160205720
I just really want a more nuanced diplomacy system and more gradual relationships between civilizations. I find it kinda dumb that after first contact you do a quick research and suddenly you know EVERYTHING about their civilization down to the comparative strengths of your military and technology levels. Would like it that shit was gated based on how much contact you had. Also wish the AI wasn't so fucking hostile by default. It's like the galaxy is populated by paranoids and aren't willing to establish any kind of friendly relations with people. There's no options to just passively exchange information and contacts to boost relations, you literally just sit there and wait for a relationship demodifier to tick down so you can do anything with them. And by "do anything" I mean try and fail to negotiate trade deals that they will refuse and make unreasonable demands for.

Make it so first contact just gives you the empire's name, the dominant race's name and appearance, and maybe their government type and the location of a few worlds close by. Don't reveal their entire genetic makeup, the full extent of their borders, and their national policies. Make the player work for that shit, give diplomatic tools for finding this shit out. Make a leader specifically for interacting with other factions and finding information. A spy, a diplomat, an envoy, something like that.

Bumping this.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Is it worth going with Talented? I'd been using Communal, but with the other happiness bonuses I'm getting it seems like overkill.

Unconscious Consensus gives +10%, and you can elect First Speakers that give another +10%. Add that to the +15% of a Hyper-Entertainment Forum and the +10% of a Five Star Governor, and you're already looking at a +45% Happiness bonus -- that's 95%, which exceeds the 80% Habitability. That would max it out everywhere but a Gaia World!

How

the fuck

do I make friends?

I mean holy shit. I first met Tomyris. I still don't know if it's a boy or girl but I kept my mouth shut. I've been gifting Scythia every luxury resource I get my hands on along with a generous gold stipend. Bitch has so much fur and truffles and coffee and dye. I went out of my way to build cities for these things to gift. A thousand goddamn years I'm giving shit. Then I stumble across Gilgamesh and he won't even take my fucking gifts. Cleopatra comes floating by and I'm like 'Yo, welcome oh queen of the Nile. Want to sample my hospitality? We got some truffles that are the fucking bomb' and she's all 'Naw, you're a sand nigger' which seemed very 'Says the pot to the kettle'. I go a few turns wondering if I can find more dye because what epgyptian doesn't like dye and she denounces me two turns later. To be fair she denounces everyone rapid fire and got crushed into the sand so.. whatever.

Goddammit how the fuck do I get anyone to like me? I wana bro up with someone but no one wants to fucking bother other then city-states.

I don't have much use for talented since as long as your leaders aren't resting on their laurels they'll reach 5 stars easily. Maxing out the bonuses each one gives at 5 stars is neat I guess, but not worth wasting 2 trait points on. I would go with something that has stronger impact like one of the resource gathering bonuses or research bonuses.

Even though this sounds like the smart way, I prefer the exact opposite: seize territory on good worlds at the start even if research tanks, rely on hundreds of plasma corvettes for attack/defense once minerals reach enough of a critical mass for mass production, then start developing research worlds en masse to catch up quick before the FEs start awakening. There's a certain point where I control loads of territory with all kinds of worlds, then once I have the research rate under control and steadily increasing through sectors I start terraforming everything I envelop to consolidate. Then I prepare for the end war, since with a bit of luck I usually can dominate all my neighbours by 2300 with this.

I'd go
>rapid breeders (+)
>adaptive (++)
>fleeting (-)
>repugnant (-)

And for ethics, there's two setups:
>fanatic spiritualist (+15% pop growth speed)
>collectivist (-5% food consumption, plus 100% slavery tolerance and access to purges if you need them)
With this set up the best choice of government is Theocratic Oligarchy, which will give you reduced resettlement costs and also a bonus to leader lifespan that will cancel out the negative from the "fleeting" trait you picked.

The other is
>fanatic spiritualist
>militarist (the ethos itself isn't super valuable but it gives access to a nice government type)
The government you want with this setup is Military Dictatorship (+10% naval capacity, -10% ship build cost). Lets you spam ships.

I'm going to agree with >>160228109, >>160228227, and >>160228408.

Kinetic Weapons start good and continue BEING good all through their tech-line.

Stick with the baseline Mass Drivers until Autocannons catch up in damage, then field a mix.

Corvettes and Cruisers should use Autocannons because they charge in, and Destroyers and Battleships should stick with Mass Drivers to take advantage of the longer range.

Larger ships should include Flak Battery/Artillery and Swarm/Whirlewind Missiles.

Battleships should use as many Large slots as possible for maximum deployment of Kinetic Artillery.

Note that all Point Defense (including Flak Battery) are considered Kinetic, so when you get the repeating technology you just POUND that motherfucker.

Throw Missiles some love every so often to keep your Swarm/Whirlwind Missiles competitive and you're golden.

I think I'd like that you could switch governments and civics fast, but you had an underlying culture that wasn't as easily changed that function more like a civ5 policies, but was instead a representation of the civs cultures.
Those could be changed by tourism from other civs, or conquering other civs.

always pick intelligent + conformist + communal
negative traits always pick sedentary and weak/deviants if you are gonna use slaves

ethos: spiritualist + militarist + xenophobic
government: divine empire (autocratic spiritualist gov't whatever it's called)

With the virtual combat center plus symbol of unity plus symbol of purity mixed with spiritualist ethos, government type, and conformist/communal you'll always have happy and non divergent citizens.

Xenophobic for symbol of purity and ability to purge/enslave alien scum.

>>
>>160231036
You actually don't
With the sizes battleships look to be you can literally just drag a small asteroid (the 20 meter kind floating around), stuff it into a railgun and fire it using the little bit of ferromagnetic material inside it. Or honestly, just take your belt buckle that's kind of deformed or fling a dead ballpoint pen at a planet.
>>
>>160227297
>>160238106
The game says warmonger penalties are refunded if you return the cities after making peace. THIS IS A LIE.
>>
>>160232490
I actually don't mind the idea, I mind how it's implemented
They should have Civics and Technology that require each other (you can't get a Nuclear Program without knowing what atoms are) and scale up if you're going too far ahead (it's pretty doubtful you're going to understand Divine Right when you haven't figured out how to write)
They also need to fix progression and everything else about it.

>>
How do I git good at Distant Worlds?

>>160238617
Not fully accurate.
There are nomadic strats.

Charismatic is a trait I'd always take if I was min/maxing.
The +relation bonus is not replacable in any way and allows you to push further into xenophobic fallen empries.

Most likely the virtual combat arena isn't worth it due to you sacrificing base yield for gaining a miniscule percentage bonus on that planet.

I was playing individualist once and found that there were a lot of cases where I wouldn't get more from the +15% happiness building over a mine.
>>
>>160238893
I suppose that's true.

So, while we're on the subject of min/maxing, what is the 'best' build?
>>
>>160238692
The AI obviously wants to build a robot empire.
>>
>>160239119
Not sure.

I think in singleplayer Fanatic Pacifist is amazing.
In multiplayer I don't think you can go fanatic pacifist though. Standard pacifist and you can deal with people warring you a lot, if you need the paradise dome for something.

Can you invade pre ftl as xenophile+militarist?
If so probably something like that.
>>
>>160237663
You can't take Conformists, Communal and Intelligent because you don't have enough points to afford all three with only two negative traits.
>>
>>160230147

It doesn't even matter what class of star you're next to with the energy levels they emit, M class dwarfs and O / B class monstrosities will provide enough energy for years at least in a matter of days.

>food
Can be grown, ships are like dwarf planet sizes if generic sci-fi is anything to go by

Pre-Heinlein, I would go Militarist/Fanatic Spiritualist with:
Charismatic, Industrious, Non-Adaptive, and I wanna say Communal? Used Tropical preference once I found out Tropical worlds have a weight for science tiles, and a further weight there for Society. Rush psionics, attach Psi-Commandos to your Assault armies, shit on everything, abuse tile weights to rush lasers into Tachyons before 2250.

That build still WORKS, but not nearly as stupidly well now that habitability percentages matter, and I -swear- tile resource weight was changed. I can't find the .txt that fiddles with it, though. Currently having the most success with Militarist/Xenophile/Individualist, as the changes to Individualist empire modifier is utterly ridiculous and allow happiness buildings to matter, even at non-Fanatic.

May not be meta, but if I were to attempt a min-max an SP playthrough? It'd be like this:
>pic related
Govt: Theocratic Republic
Ethics: Individualist, Spiritualist, Militarist (Give them malls, virtual arenas, and God. Once at -40% Divergence, they'll be more than happy to fund your slaughter of their home empire)
Traits: Strong, Charismatic, Non-Adaptive, Industrious /or/ Charismatic, Industrious, Sedentary
Strat: Play nice, expand aggressively, and always be ready to Liberate/Vassalize a fucker with your full Fleet. Always put Engineering to bigger guns or ships, salvage everything else. Open migration treaties to expand your colonization efforts. Make a planet checkerboard Silos and Mining Networks if you find a planet with a buff to mineral production, then make your next couple of planets focus on staying in the green for energy. You want Symbol of Unity ASAP, followed by Virtual Combat Arena. Try to take a race in with the Very Strong trait, and either build armies or put them in the mines.

If you have Leviathans, and find a trading enclave, just go full-retard on Energy or Minerals. Trading Enclave will provide for you.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Master of Orion looks the most polished out of all of them, and apparently it's getting a huge update and it's first DLC before Christmas.
>>
>>160221119
Go outside for once.
>>
>>160249652
Master of Orion 2 looks pretty, plays pretty, but you can shit on any playthrough if you have population growth bonuses, doubly so if you add food production bonuses on top of it.

Made a custom race with both, I was winning six ways over and had was slated to lose every fleet battle I got into. Was competing for Tech victory with the turtle people who are all about population explosions and violence. I was also competing for diplomatic and economic victory with them, as well.

Unless that huge update totally revamps the system, population growth will shit on you every time.

I keep trying to get into Stellaris and it just doesn't hold my attention. I have no idea why, because I want to love it, but for whatever reason it just doesn't captivate me.

Production and free shots similar to walled cities. They're decent if you know you'll get attacked and you want extra protection.

Explain to me how heat dissipation is a problem for lasers in spessships who can afford to just have superconducting fluid circulating in ridiculous quantities to carry away the heat as necessary, when theoretically a laser doesn't actually need produce that much excess heat when being created (note that it's 2200).
Lasers are a poor weapon anyway compared to relativistic-speed kinetic bombardment, they have limited range and inferior punch.

I do have two horses, in fact I've got three of them. I have two iron as well, and I have two niter in my reach, so that won't be a problem either.

I guess this particular city will only be attacked if I'm already losing the war and three or four of my other cities is already losing to the enemy. But perhaps some of the other cities could have it then. How does it provide extra protection?
>>
I wish the civ6 graphics weren't so cartoonish. They should've designed it to look more natural instead I think.

>dissipating it from the entire space ship
Entirely unnecessary, considering the size of the ship and the fact that they apparently use antimatter annihilation as a source of energy. The fact that they have a way of creating enough energy to actually fire off giant lazor beams implies they have a way of controlling, harnessing, and getting rid of that energy. You can't say 'there's a problem with the lasers' because there evidently isn't and there's no reason why you would need to generate ridiculous amounts of heat to create a powerful laser anyway, or I'd like to see which physical law implies it?

>muh hypothetical weapon...
But it is, because a laser eventually stops syncing and turns into an ordinary beam of light, is harder to create, and doesn't carry any more destructive power than a relativistic 'bullet'. The only reason it would be better is a lack of warning, but that's only if it doesn't have any wind-up time.

>by the laser not to the laser
What the fuck does 'generating to the laser' even mean
Lasers do not "generate heat" on their own until they interact with particles (more like, they don't actually transfer the energy they carry until they hit something that it can be transferred to), and there is literally no physical reason why the process of creating the laser needs to create uncontrollable amounts of heat.
Show me the law that makes a laser 'generate' heat in a vacuum or near-vacuum. For someone playing the physics major game, you're not exactly using airtight terminology.
The actual creation of the laser also doesn't actually need to generate heat, contrary to that guy's claim, "But the even larger problem is the heat generated. A laser outputs only a tiny portion of its power as coherent light. The rest is dumped as heat, which goes into radiators". Nope, that's not required by any physical law. You're guaranteed to get heat generation, but 'tiny fraction' is not actually mathematically implied.

>lasers lose focus and inverse square law
Actually, the proper term is 'lose coherence', if we're playing the PHY201 smartass game. A (spatially) coherent beam is, essentially, in sync with itself, which is why I used that term.

>can't be CTRL-F'd

Are you confirming your stupidity further? There is such thing as waste heat and that scales exponentially with laser power. There is a reason why lasers are measured in watts and wave lengths you stupid moron. The terminology is correct, you that are stupid enough to not understand it.
>low power lasers on earth
>no cooling or radiators because air
>high power lasers on space ships
>need to be high power because distances are large
>need cooling to get rid of waste heat
>has to dissipate heat with huge radiators because ship is floating in space
>as lasers grow the radiators become larger than the ship itself

It's something similar to the powerwall CPUs are reaching. It's something related physics, not engineering.

Can we talk about this instead of having a heated internet debate about real life space weapons that do not yet exist?

In my opinion spaceships will be so fragile anything can damage them to the point of immobilizing them and/or killing off the crew inside due to heat or other means.

Who knows, maybe if we do at some point have super advanced traditional naval combat in space we'll just throw singularities or wormholes at our targets. Point is, it's all speculative bullshit.

So, anybody have some games recommendations?
>>
>>160253946
>the terminology is correct
It is not. A laser does not lose focus, it loses coherence. Try googling PHY201 textbooks harder.

>there is such a thing as waste heat that scales exponentially with laser power
And that isn't relevant, because laser efficiency has a pretty damn high theoretical limit.

>because air
While this isn't actually relevant because air is hardly going to be anything at the energy levels we're on about, battleships are (probably) at a size where you'd expect them to have an atmosphere of their own.

>there is a reason why lasers are measured in watts
...what the fuck else would they even be measured in? Kelvin? Coulombs? Joules?
>wave lengths
...Wave lengths aren't a unit, they're a variable / parameter, unless you meant in wave lengths of the laser itself.

>radiators
Have only a thermodynamic upper bound on efficiency depending on how they actually work and there isn't as much heat as you think to begin with.

>CPUs
Correct, it's a hard limit due to the way particle physics works, but that limit doesn't exist for lasers

What are we even arguing about?
I only picked this up because you quoted me and called me a "FUCKING RETARD" when, now that I look at it, I didn't even actually mention lasers in my post.

>>160254025
I used imprecise but easier to visualize terminology on purpose because I didn't know how much the other guy understood. A laser is essentially a light beam that is synchronized with itself, even if that isn't the technical term.
>>
>>160254546
>that limit doesn't exist for lasers
Or rather, it exists, but it's not as harsh as you think and depends mainly on how you're generating the laser itself, which even your website acknowledges.
>>
Why don't space 4X games ever have proper space combat? Celestial objects don't just sit motionless anchored to a geosynchronous orbit around the local star, they orbit, move, and interact with each other. Same would be true for ships and projectile weapons. They'd be affected by gravity, orbits, stellar phenomena, etc.

Space games are basically all aircraft or naval vessels using traditional planes of movement, static in their systems, and move about freely with no regard to how gravity works. It's just traditional Earth naval gameplay with a space skin.

Screens don't look bad and i am considering it.

>>
>>160261636
It's a pretty strange game. Kinda like AI War, it feels like an experimentation rather than a full game, and that fact is both what makes it interesting and what makes it annoying.

To put it simply, you don't have colony ships, and most planets just produces one type of ressources. In most case, it's food or water.
By exporting these to another planet, said planet will level up and be able to house more people, which means more money and more production.

Fleets don't really exists, in place, you have one capital ship, and depending from its blueprints, it can bring support ships (small shits) with it.

And I while diplomacy is innovative with cards to buy and use, it's pretty annoying since they cost you influence to buy AND to use.
>>
>>160261636
I bought it a long time ago because it looked to be promising, but's not that fun for me, but I'm a person who loves MoO II, Stellaris, Endless Legend, Endless Space and Sword of the Stars.

Star Ruler II does have some interestning mechanics. I dont have a problem with the doplomacy, but the tech tree is mostly filled with boring techs that only gives % boost to what you already got instead of new stuff and the planet system becomes really boring after a while. Also, designing ships is a hit or miss. The good thing is that you can save designs that stays in the game until they are deleted.

PS. So far ES1 got better combat than ES2 unless there is something I have missed.

Haven't played a Civ since 2 and looking to get back into it. Can't do that til I get a new PC. Doing two identical builds for my wife and I and I have a couple questions.

Regarding RAM, how important is speed? I notice that one of the cheaper motherboards I saw has a category for "memory standard," which it lists as DDR4 2133. Does this mean that this board won't support DDR4 3000?

Secondly, I'm looking at an i5 6500 and a GTX 1060 (6GB). Will this setup effectively run most current games at 1080/60 with settings turned up?

I appreciate the advice. Feel a bit jetlaggged as I haven't done a build since 2010. Thanks.

Firaxis has been incredibly tight-lipped as a company for almost their entire existence, going even as far back as Alpha Centauri. You'll get pre-release hype press, then radio silence for at least a month or two, then they'll drop a patch or something and go back to their stone impression.

They don't really believe in post-launch PR.

Resource Bonus and army damage. You get guaranteed invasion success if you Light bombard fortifications to about half strength, and then you fight off a majority of the AI trying to counter-invade. That and your Gene Warriors will be steps above anyone else's by nature of that stat.

Pretty much, you integrate as many species as possible and use them for whatever good they are. Malls, arenas, and God make anyone like your policies. Divergence can eat a dick when you add in Artisan Troupe 'commissions' to effectively cap off happiness. Troublesome races (Deviants flaw or just diametrically opposed to you) can eat Mind Control Lasers, which you get by researching Artificial Moral Codes->Synthetic Thought Patterns->Will To Power. Those lasers give -30% Divergence, and I'm convinced only one type of ethos is supposed to get it but I have yet to find out which it makes sense on.

You get habitability boosting techs super early. Engos Vapor and the habitat filtering tech combine to put you back to where you need to be. What's a cooler idea for a faction in Stellaris?

>The Nietzschean League: a genetically-engineered offshoot of humanity, this species rebelled against their former masters and fled to the stars. They are obsessed with the ideal of independent self-perfection and modify themselves, and the galaxy around them, extensively.

>The Azlani Khanate: bipedal feloids from a dry, inhospitable world. If not for unlikely celestial intervention, the primitive Azlani tribes may have warred themselves to extinction centuries before reaching the stars. An interstellar war that crossed their system littered their homeworld with wreckage that advanced their technology exponentially. United by their discoveries, the tribes abandoned their feuds and set about searching for new worlds to conquer.

I'd be using the same traits and ethos for both, but it's two very different ways of going about it.

Build up your military or at least get a few archers to secure your holdings. You need a military.

Score doesn't matter if the civ thinks it can push you around.

Fucking imbeciles, this is going to be just like Civ5's terrible modding community.

I wish Firaxis understood that time is of the essence here, if they want quality total conversion mods. Even Bethesda understands that, and Bethesda's a bunch of incompetent loons
>>
>>160324954

No, even from their own pocketbook perspective. The earlier mods can hit the ground, the more there will be, and the higher quality they will be (due to competition), which means that Firaxis can poach the best stuff to integrate into their next expansion (as they've done in the past, and as The Binding if Isaac is doing as we speak).

Mods are basically free sales for them so long as they put in the initial work.

Civ 6 is the exception. It's literally rigged so that you're forced to go to war at least once.
>>
>>160336407
The AI in civ 6 can be retarded as fuck, a lot of the war mongering complaints are just retards, but there's also some issues with it, IE going to war with someone someone else is at war with will still net you a war mongering penalty, but to be honest it's easy as fuck to avoid war mongering penalties if you aren't going for a domination victory. Also the different casus beli have different stipulations on cities you can take.

>>160350034
Only in terms of resources. As far as city states and wonders go I don't think it cares. It also tries to spawn civs in the "right" environment, like Russia on tundra tiles etc.

Just my experience, could be wrong.
>>
>>160350034

In terms of being by another civ or balancing strategic resources, no.

Continents are bad because say Scythia spawns on a continent with their only neighbor being Spain or some shit. Spain is literally guaranteed to die, and now Scythia has 80% of the game to snowball and fully invest in great people and infrastructure because they don't have to worry about defending themselves.

I always build the entertainment complex. It's almost the most important one, outside the science campus.

Then, when you build the entertainment complex, make sure you do so in all your cities and keep the entertainment complexes maximum 6 tiles away from other cities' city centres. Then, when you get to stadium and zoo, you will share the amenities you get from those with all the cities that are closeby.

I want to be an isolationist, ultra scientific, pacifistic society in Stellaris

What would I go for as far as settings?
>>
>>160395556
America's bonuses have to be very late game focused for reasons obvious, whereas civ games are mostly decided by then. If they are not, chances are you would have won already if you went with an early game focused civ that can shit on neighbours early on.

So either american civ is going to be overall underwhelming but with some decent bonuses late or Scythia on drugs once it hits a certain point. Both options are kinda shit but one makes sense from balance standpoint.

>>
>>160401736
It might be better if you hosted a game that didn't begin in the Ancient Era. But no one ever does that.

I'd love to see a UA that "evolves" as a civ techs and advances to represent a changing society. It might work for America if it was something like better movement of the Manifest Destiny Era turning into better industry as it becomes the economic/cultural juggernaut it is known for, but that'd get messy quick.

I genuinely can't enjoy civ 6.
It's not fun having more barbarian horseman show up on your doorstep then there are turns in the game.
It's not fun having every single AI being completely unreasonable and hating you for existing from the ancient era right to the end of the game.
It's not fun having war weariness that lasts 2 eras.
It's not fun having a broken UI that doesn't give you important information and takes a turn to update.
It's not fun having gilgamesh shove uncounterable warcarts or scythia with immortal horse hordes declare war on you with zero ability to defend yourself.
It's not fun having to ICS every game if you want to keep up with deity AI.
It's not fun having a religious civ when the entirety of religion is fucking worthless.
It's not fun having EVERY SINGLE MAP being half tundra and half desert with an impenetrable jungle on one side and an impenetrable mountain range on the other.
It's not fun playing with even less balanced units and civs than civ 5.
It's not fun having to half tech all your techs so you can finish them off with inspirations at a later date because the aforementioned ICS makes tech too fast.
It's not fun having to leave your great writers hanging around for hundreds or thousands of years because you don't have a slot to put his work of writing in.

The game just isn't fun.

They're going to be changing the Individualist/Collectivist axis to Egalitarian/Authoritarian.

We're also going to get an update to factions.

I'm getting a bit concerned; I kind of enjoy how simple the game is to pick up and play. If I have to worry about a thousand niggling little details, that might ruin the experience for me.

For the most part hes not wrong. The only thing I dislike about his rankings though is that its a little biased towards his unique setup. He plays with a group of people who all use particular mods that completely change the game, and they have rules against pretty much any map with water so he always downgrades water based civs.
>>
>EL update
Wait, what?
>>
>>160427563
Agree, but I'd probably slide America higher by one just for their same continent bonus. Talking of the 50% chance of the bonus being used is perhaps not generous enough. You will win and have a second capital if you're surprised warred early, and random map allowing, will give an easier time for an initial aggressive war. Just winning an early war gives you snowball power.
>>
>>160407019
The tomb world penalty isn't that bad, but if you colonize them with droids, then you have to worry about them getting mad for researching AI.

Can't win with spiritualists.
>>
>>160422351
I'm more bothered by the idea that non communists aren't allowed to enslave/purge.

Will we get a double axis like the political compass? I wanna play an elitist society that is highly individualistic, but perfectly fine with slavery.

This is ridiculous. Snowballing in VP is twice as bad as it is in vanilla. It's not that fucking hard. Give the AI tremendous bonuses when they are small to make things difficult on the player but then lower the bonuses the larger the AI empire gets. Bonuses that are determined simply by the number of cities are idiotic.
