Honestly, they should just remove all the scoped weapons for the recon class. Give them a shotgun or something. The class would instantly be better for the team by continually scouting as the team pushes forward, and the gameplay would be a lot more fun without hillsnipers because it'd be more hectic with more people running around by the points. Make the sniper class a sentry kit, so that one guy gets to be one, and he gets a bunch of long-range gadgets so he's useful.

The game really doesn't need a sniper class.

So what's the fucking point of the landships? They just get instantly annihilated by the other tanks.

This isn't about winning or losing, it's about the gameplay and how it's affected by the sniper aspect of the Recon class.

Are hillsnipers good for the team? No. Not like a forward recon is.
Are hillsnipers fun for the enemy? No. They're a terribly boring way to die compared to just about any way you can die in the game.
Is hillsniping good for the individual? Most of the time no. They'd get more kills or points by actually playing the objective.

The sniper part of the recon class directly leads to inferior gameplay for everyone except the leetXXheadsh0t95 guys who revel in their mad trick shots and k/d. The inclusion of scopes on all the rifles, as well as the majority of their gadgets being sniper-related is the cause of this, and that's why 90% of people play the class like a sniper sitting on a hill. Remove the scopes and give them more offensive/flanking gadgets, forcing them to not be snipers but recon units, and you instantly make the overall gameplay for literally everyone better. Until then the class isn't fine, because it promotes decidedly unfun gameplay.

It's really only useful when you're supporting a concentrated effort to kill a tank. It's also good for scaring off Light Tanks and arty trucks.

Mortar or Limpet?

I'm trying to play an offensive scout role that operates between 0-100m that caps objectives but can also eliminate snipers. What would be the go-to rifle i should be aiming for. I'm only level 9 at the moment so I've unlocked the Russian and Gewehr M. 95 Infantry. I like the Gewehr so far but the sights are taking a bit of getting used to.

What's THE weapon for that play style I should be hanging out for?

The starter gun is pretty decent for short range stuff as long as you remember to set it to full auto.
Mondragon is good for longer range, lots of people seem to like the selbstlader.

What's the deal with the limpet?
I just started using it recently and it does great damage when it detonates on a vehicle, but half the time I'll run right up beside a vehicle, use it, run away, and then never see any point indicator of even damaging a vehicle. Like it just fucking falls off or disappears.

At least with Argonne, it actually has more than 3 points on Conquest and the abundance of flanking routes and general cover/hills makes it much less of a clusterfuck than expected.
