However, seeing as my computer died on me a few days ago I won't be able to continue with the polls.

Our population is at an all time low. How do we fix this? Ban the shitposters is a pretty good place to start, I feel. They are actively scaring away any new players.
Another suggestion is purge some of the music list, lower the download size.
>>
>>159901349

We have musicless downloads and music packs.
That kind of fixes the issue already.
>>
>>159901349

the rampant shitposting is definitely a major contribution, but this is a kind of game that is very niche and can get very boring after a few months, so i'm not surprised most people have left.
>>
>>159901349

People should realize the game is meant to be fun for everyone, not for a specific person or at the expense of others.

When you play to win, everyone loses.
>>
>>159901349
People take breaks, anon.
You need to with a game like this.

Is shitposting rampant in-game on in this thread, because you can't do anything about the latter. Also most of it is just done for bump purposes. Unfortunate but it gets the job done.

Honestly, what's "scaring away any new players" is the amount of shit heaped on them from the start. There's an expectation that new players should read all the (mostly useless) guides and watch 7 hour long case videos and fucking study this thing to be perfect otherwise they'll get shit on by others.
We need to stop being so serious about it.
>>
>>159901349
>Ban the shitposters is a pretty good place to start,
A very good start, I'd agree. The thread would be cleaner, and there'd be so much less toxicity in cases.

>>159901913
>Also most of it is just done for bump purposes
That's the excuse they give. The reason is because they enjoy shitposting, and watching suffering.

>There's an expectation that new players should read all the
I agree that this is a problem, too. When a new player pops up in an area, more often than not they get directed to a long ass guide, instead of just letting them naturally RP. Remember at the turn of the year, how everyone would cooperate for a better trial? Everyone let everyone else speak and do things normally.

Everything's getting too formulaic, desu
>>
>>159901349
>How do we fix this?

We fix it by killing this general a week before the anniversary and move back to /v/ and stay there until we get kicked off again.
I'm not talking /v/eekends and such.
Drop the fuckhuge general like OP and everything else.
Axe all areas that aren't Courtrooms and Basement, we can add them back later, keep it simple for new people.
We can go back and look at how Lupa did stuff.
Seeing how content has slowed down to a crawl lately, it's not like you even need the general for content progress updates.
>>
>>159903017
I agree with all of this.
Back to basics.

>We can go back and look at how Lupa did stuff.

"name = x" is what the ini uses to find the character folder, if the folder does not exist, or you misspelled it, it will do that error.

showname is something different, if you're wondering.

make sure you have the right number of "emotions = x" to the emote list

Yo, Justice, it's Gumshoe. If you're still throttling this internet and you read this, I need to readd you on 4chan. Some guy wanted me to do a case that I don't do anymore so I redirected him to you. I'll explain more in PMs since it concerns some of the stuff on your server.

If you don't remember the 4chan name, try asking /vg/ or some shit.
>>

I'm troubleshooting everything that could possibly be wrong, and i'm still not sure. I even reduced the ini down to bare basics, a single emote, renamed every line, etc

I'll keep trying though.

When are we banning co and support prosecution?
Useless roles that 9/10 times contribute nil or make a case worse.
>>
>>159948779

Support prosecution was created when we had so many people it was an actual race to participate in a case. Nowadays that isn't the case, so it can be safely discarded.

Co-prosecution is a good beginner role and still has some merit, it's just optional.

Capcom hates money.

On that note, area 2 is building.
>>
>>160017439

Because GK2 is a DS game that came out in Japan the same month the 3DS launched.
If Capcom did translate the game for the west, I imagine the game would have launched in NA and Europe a year after the 3DS.
I highly doubt that Ace Attorney could have afforded something like that, like Pokémon Black 2 and White 2.

>>
>>160084558
It isn't.

Names apologists will tell you that he never gave up, but he did, and he did it a lot. The only good thing Names did was quit AO so nobody would suffer through him abandoning them for the fiftieth time.

But he also ruined Mia forever. Now everybody who plays her is a giant meme who wants to attentionfag by acting like Names.

Names was Verin before Verin was a thing.

So, I know that AO has been having difficulty having good cases since some months ago, and while I was studying conservatism I think I figured out why

Here is the problem, there are certain things you can't achieve unless you stop chasing them. Because they come naturally. Yes, I know this sounds crazy but it makes sense, let me elaborate

Football players have one objective: Score goals. And as a side effect they develop friendship with their colleagues, and they also end up having tons of fun. What would happen if, when they played, they did it for the fun and friendship instead of for scoring the goals? They would not achieve anything

Let's use a college as example, a college's purpose used to be to chase knowledge and distribute it, a side effect would be that people there would be ready for the job market. Now colleges are built specifically to prepare you for the job market, and they regularly fail at that very objective. Maybe if we kept chasing our original objective, knowledge, this wouldn't happen.

Now how can we apply this to AO?

Think about what we used to chase back then and what we are chasing now.

We are like football players. We want the fun, the friendship, the good things... But we also need to score goals in order to get that. Unfortunately we gave up on scoring goals many months ago and started going to the field with the sole objective of having fun somehow, like lost sheep

Think about what we used to chase during the first two months of AO and what we are chasing today when we case... People say "Case just to have fun" but that's not how you case at all, if everyone is casing to have fun then no one is taking the case seriously and it will feel superficial and cheap

These are my two cents, think about it
>>
>>160088697
Stop being so salty.
>>
>>160088985
I quit AO some time ago to focus on studies, not salty
>>
>>160089039
The only reason you'd make a post like that is because you're salty.
>>
>>160088985
>>160089105
"Muh salt" isn't a argument. A proper argument would be more like this:

>>160088697
The thing is that sometimes other side effects develop, or never appear in the first place. As football players get friends, they would also get rivals, and while what you learn in college help you get a job, some degrees (Like the memetic Liberal Arts) doesn't provide anything useful.

The same could be said for AO cases. While playing a case to play out the roles can lead to a fun case, toxicity can breed from even the most minor annoyance, and sometimes what the other people offer means that it's possible for someone to not have fun.

After all, we don't pretend to be lawyers for anything great, we pretend to be lawyers for fun.

(Anyway one of the main problem in my mind is people being afraid of allowing fresh newbies to play in cases in the fear that they'll ruin it. The lowering player count might be a reason IMO.)
>>
>>160088697
>>160089039
Lupa just give up on this already. As you can see from the replies no one wants to improve their game. You are wasting time with this. I know I gave up a long time ago, I just stick to this for the banter now.
>>
>>160088697

>if everyone is casing to have fun then no one is taking the case seriously and it will feel superficial and cheap

that isn't what casing to have fun is at all, why would you assume this.

Nowadays if you try to get even the slightest bit in-character people will take the piss out of you and just act like a shitposter, like calling Manfred a shithead when he's acting intimidating is somehow a brilliant and funny subversion of his character.

If you get invested and try your best, you're called out for being too serious. If you say you want to win because it makes for an interesting back and forth, you're called a k/dfag by people who can't keep up with you.

>Act like fucking idiots and kill any emotional investment

But in the most fucking bizarre twist, if you try to do anything out of the ordinary or in defiance of the meta, these same people will barrage you and try to stop whatever you do: last minute interruption, detective coming in with new evidence, stuff like that.

>>
>>160088697
The problem is that you're acting as if AO is or was ever a competitive game.
It isn't. Get over it. This idea that cases need to be taken super seriously and that players should be perfect in their roles is the very cancer killing the server.
>>
>>160093968

>>
To be honest what is "killing" the server are people being tired of casing and such. Lately it is very hard to have people joining a case because of that.

>>
>>160095256
Anon let's be real, nobody wants to play anything that is not a normal case nowadays.
And if you are building something else you'll get a lot of "let's change it to a normal case" from the people who comes an the people who already signed up too.
>>
>>160096131
well, there are some people who like to try new things out, but they're usually labeled "circlejerk" and such (which is very healthy for the game's community, truly)
>>
>>160088697
AO was never competitive.

The problems we face are BECAUSE people don't cooperate in cases. The most obvious thing that's changed is that people don't take turns to speak any more. Every case is a talkover fest.

>>160092683
>and Apollo starts acting all smug like "so what?" instead of damage emoting and such
Oh yeah, instead of playing along, people just go
>you don't scare me out of character, tho!
in character chat, or they just counter with memes.

It goes back to the problem of people not being as cooperative as they used to be. When I first started playing (on Manfred, coincidentally) I was happy to enable other people's RP, and they mine. Not once did Apollo Justice climb on the prosecution bench and start attacking Manfred, or shoot him from across the court, in those days.
>>
>>160098972

>The most obvious thing that's changed is that people don't take turns to speak any more. Every case is a talkover fest.

This can be mitigated by having less people on the benches or by following the proper objection system. But that requires people to actually listen.
>>
>>160099169
>This can be mitigated by having less people on the benches or by following the proper objection system.
Absolutely.

>But that requires people to actually listen.
And nobody will, yeah. People just keep talking.
>>
>>160100247

A good judge will enforce the system and good players will listen.

I advocate for solo prosecution and 2 people on the defense bench for most cases, as you don't need any more, and that's how most AA cases go.
>>
>>160100796
I agree, and if people did that, then there'd be more cases because of the smaller numbers required, they'd be quicker, and I'm sure less people would instantly close the client after seeing the only active areas are full.
>>

Honestly, the idea that verdictfagging was popular early on is hilariously wrong. Do you not remember the days of

>Please, give us a verdict, any verdict besides mistrial

Controversial opinion to bump thread?

I've been here since the server started, and besides a rough patch in the summer, I think case quality is on an upward trend and the last three cases I've been in have been very enjoyable. The reason the population is getting lower is because it's always been getting lower, this has become a game that needs eight hours set aside from the get-go to enjoy, so it's obviously very, very niche and people get tired of it faster than new people get hooked. There's no great AO problem that needs solving besides, maybe, getting newer people faster.
>>
>>160143983
I like putting time limits to trials for like a 4-hour cases but people never like doing that.
>>
>>160145165

The reason people don't like that is because it slants the board hugely in the Prosecution's favor. The Defense is usually on the backfoot until the very tail-end, so if they have never get to the point because of a time limit, it's an ez guilty.

Also, time limits tend to push people to go faster and miss things.
>>
>>160146301
For the first point, we have penalties for a reason. Second point, true.
>>
>>160147704

How would penalties solve the first point? I didn't mean Prosecution specifically trying to draw out the trial, moreso that a slow WPM or methodical CE's can fuck a Defense if they're on a time limit.

Time limits CAN work out fine, but there's always the possibility that a good case gets cut short. Hell, I can think of few top-tier cases that were shorter than four hours.
>>
>>160146301
Not him, but no. Time limits work if you have competent people. That shitters can't organise themselves and use their time doesn't mean it's a flawed remedy. We used to have shorter cases, and the defense fucked up just as much, if not less, than they do now. A year ago, when cases approached four hours, we all wound it down and thought
>it needs to end soon

When we had short cases, people didn't talk over eachother. It's almost as if the level of courtesy shown by players in a case is inversely proportional to how long a case will take.

Also, why is it that people want change, but half of you shoot down every suggestion as being
>waahh, it hurts
>muh pressure
>not enough time!!!11
>muh bantz
You fucking pussies. If you don't try it, and keep trying it until these newshitters and handful of old people with bad habits that never got worked out get used to it, nothing will change. And bantz is a cancer. Only a few characters do what people call "bantz", and it's definitely not this common. The other big problem, apart from cases taking so long, is shit RP in this form.

>>
>>160147882
>moreso that a slow WPM or methodical CE's can fuck a Defense if they're on a time limit.
While the first is a legitimate problem, the second can be solved if defense doesn't take an age and a half to crawl through the testimony. Hell, it's even detrimental to the defense - if you give a competent player enough time, they'll figure out the contradiction and make a rebuttal. By going for it immediately, you make it harder on the opposition to explain it - meaning that you have a better chance of convincing people.
>>
>>160147882
>>160152203
The defense problem and the mention crawling by the second anon can be partly if not wholly explained away - a habit's developed since forever, but has gotten prevalent recently, of thinking deeply of information, as you get it.

You think deeply once you've pressed everything. Then you go for the contradiction. You're allowed to hear the testimony again, we used to do it a lot more often. It's just that, when you waste half an hour on each statement, like we do now, people won't let you - because you made the poor decision to do your deliberation before you heard everything, and now nothing makes sense to you, because you considered each statement independently of the testimony and case as a whole.

You're going to press everything anyway, to hear everything, so you might as well do it properly, and get all the information first, before deliberating and pondering. If it takes you five minutes instead of an hour just to press, that gives you plenty of time to think. The prosecution will happily let you hear the testimony again. The way some defense players play - the
>If we don't talk about this line for half an hour now, we'll never know if it's the contradiction, Scoob!
method, the steno might as well not exist, and the whole "It's your cross examination, defense, do your little song and dance." feature of AA might as well not exist. Outside of Manfred endgame RP, you're allowed to hear a testimony more than once.

And of
>slow WPM
I'm a very, very slow typist, so I used to just prewrite your questions during the initial testimony giving when I cased played defense. It helped a lot with keeping up. It's getting steno'd, so you should just go ahead and write questions or make notes if you're a slow typist. Maybe if you're a quick typist, it'd help too, although I doubt it'd help as much as it helps slow.

>when you spend more time spriting than casing

What a case to come back to the defense bench to. I'd like to thank everyone in that trial, from the Ray who was a steady support for most of the case, to the fantastic Nagito putting us on his ruse cruise, the Sebastian who put the pressure on to make me defend even harder, and the Holmes judge whose M A D M A N judging ideas helped the case feel fresh. It may have been a guilty verdict, but it was a guilty that felt like it was properly earned.

Wouldn't happen. Lana outright admits that she is outcast from the Prosecutor's Office, but would somehow get into the field again. You'd most likely see her as detective, with Ema appearing as an assistant (i.e. Lana and Gant duo in 1-5).

I just finished 1-5, so this shit is fresh in my mind. I'd play a game where Lana is the detective, though.

When are we going to get out of this "RELEVANS TO THE MURDER ONLY" trap with witnesses?

In AA witnesses testify about all kinds of shit that may be irrelevant to the murder, but relevant to a different aspect of the CASE.

Relevance to the case and relevance to the murder are two very different things, and people STILL don't know this.

You could have a witness testify about their relationship with another witness, the defendant, victim. You could have them testify about their day. Their work ethic.

But no, just "I saw the murder, I didn't see the murder."

They CAN testify about those things, but it has to be relevant to the murder in some way or else the case goes off the fucking rails.

Plus all testimonies in AA were related to the murder or a murder somehow, Phoenix wasn't just allowed to call a bird to testify for no fucking reason, Polly was relevant in proving Yanni's relation to the DL-6 case, which was heavily linked to their current one.

I literally don't care, I've seen tons of players make tons of mistakes, myself included. There's no need to highlight it over and over and keep a list like a petty person.

Point is, people who actually play the game, no matter how they play, are much more valuable than people who just lurk the threads trying to start the same shit over and over again.
>>
>>160424551
Gonna have to agree there, but sadly the shitposters don't agree.
Some people cannot live without starting shit, i don't know why, but it makes them feel alive.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT THE MARKET IS CRASHING
>>
I have a question for anyone here who fits all of the following:
>A: Has played the entire DLC case from PW: Spirit of Justice
>B: Pays attention to small details
>C: Can explain this bullshit
Warning: major spoilers for the last 20% of Spirit of Justice's DLC case:
1: When examining Sorin's notebook near the end, the second page claims the book says "killed Gloomsbury with a blow to the head." when I'm pretty sure it didn't mention anything about the method used when Phoenix was examining the book. What gives? He would have needed to say it yeah, thanks to his memory problems, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't mention anything of the sort.
2: Okay, somebody please explain to me about the murder weapon.and how they know both hits were from the Time Keeper. The first hit sure, that wouldn't be too hard to tell as the time keeper is a unique shape, but the big reveal is that the second hit was done with the glass cylinder part under the mental cover. How would the police know it came from the time keeper without the cover being retracted and seeing the inside themselves? I'm pretty sure the metal bands running along the outside would be quite visible in the injury wound if he'd been hit with the outside part.

Brown only works if the character is brown to begin with, and being Asian and/or American, Mia doesn't work being brown.

That, and it clearly just a shitty Photoshop to make her skin a shitty brown, rather than chocolate brown.

If you say that's wrong, you agree that replacing a person's ethnicity with one that they don't belong to, like Asian Indians, for whatever reason is perfectly fine?

That's enabling people to draw racewashing fanart, and that's bad.
>>
>>160518221
Make her scarf dark green, see if reversing the hat (make the bell flip on the other side) looks better. Don't use the bell, it clashes with the rest. Keep the fluff but be sure to put her badge on it.

So:

- Keep the hat
- Don't keep the bell
- Try switching the hat's tail
- Keep the fluff unless it clashes or makes emotes look weird.
- Color the scarf dark green and see if that looks good.
- If you keep the fluff, put her badge on it.

Bam. I do agree the hat looks better, though the reason I put it that way it was is so the hairflip animations would use the ball. Then again, that sounds hard.
The green looks weird, though I'm not sure if that's just the shade I used.
>>
>>160520002
On second thought, you should flip the tail back. You could totally use it in the hairflip animation plus it won't cut off the back of the scarf.

Alternatively, cut out the part of the ball that's covering the back of her scarf/hair to give the impression that's more behind her head.

If you can't see yourself feeling satisfied with the scarf feel free to just use the default color.

Names has been dead for at least 4 months and people still never shut up about him.
I actually brought in a player when Gatoposting got at its worst, and it was a struggle just to get them to understand that the vast majority of players didn't want that shit, and a lot of other players mentioned especially(10+ "namefags" pointed out on their literal first day of AO).
I at least managed to get them to stay for about a month until more "namefags" got called out in cases, and that was too much for them.

If say, Tharjafag had an interest in Ace Attorney instead, he would fucking run this general and those retards would flock to him for (You)s.

Can we have an improv case that isn't always acquittal-by-indictment or bust?
>>
>>160539295

We have had those, I've had those, the issue is that they're fucking boring.
>>
>>160539295

this >>160539416
plus they'd still be guilty of murder anyways, unless its literally impossible for the defendant to have done it
>>
>>160539542

Which is what I meant by "I've done it", it was a "if the witnesses are telling the truth my client literally could not have killed the victim".

"Oh really? Alright, Not Guilty, I guess."

It was lame as fuck and I wanted to tackle the final boss, but the judge wanted to end the case.
>>
>>160539416
>>160539542
How can they be more boring when they're just like a normal trial except not formulaic and the defense isn't railroaded into pointing the finger at someone in order to have a satisfying ending. For example, the greg in that masked party case a few days ago that argued that the defendant's murder was justified because he was a police officer on duty stopping a plot to kill everyone at the party.

It gives struggling DAs a different choice from "spend hours on the final boss listening to the same CE theme" and "literally just give up on the spot", It lets prosecution actually argue their case more actively instead of sitting on their ass waiting for witnesses and DAs to let them have a turn, and it makes judges actually put some critical thought into their verdicts instead of stamping out a "guilty" or "not guilty" once the trial reaches an arbitrary point
>>
>>160541345
DA's want to point a finger at the final boss though. If they had a choice between acquitting and not finding the real killer and finding the real killer at risk of losing, then they'd pick the latter.
>>
>>160541345

Because while that all sounds well and good when you dress it up what is actually comes out to being is

>according to this testimony and this testimony it's impossible for my client to have killed the victim
>nuh-uh, power debate
>more power debates
>power debating intensifies
>three hours later
>"Yeah I guess you're right Defense, Not Guilty."

It's fucking boring. They're like a normal trial except without the fun climax and most RP-intensive bit, yeah, that's why they're boring. This isn't actually a courtroom fucking simulator, it's for us to play AA trials, and AA trials are just mystery stories of "whodunnit". If you want muh serious lawyer simulator you can make a case format for that, like Civil. But if you don't finger the true killer you're avoiding the literal point of the trial and it becomes a semantics back and forth of boring "what was their intention?" bullshit most of the time like real trials.

>it's for us to play AA trials
This is the crux of the problem. People try their hardest to try and imitate the good ol fashioned AA turnabout. But there are two major problems with this.

First of all, people aren't trying to recreate AA trials in their entirety, only the mechanics. This means that it leads to cases that rush past all the stuff that would be considered critical in a normal AA trial, focusing way too much on cross-examinations with everything else thrown to the wayside, and conditioning people to think far too narrowly, and not consider things in a broader sense. People seem to forget that a lot of stuff happens in AA when you're not directly in control of the designated lawyer, stuff that's vital to the cases they represent. But that's not here in this server.

Secondly, doing the exact same format gets old and formulaic if done enough times. AA is able to relieve that by not only have a relatively small amount of cases over long stretches of time, as well as having new characters, new places to investigate, fresh ideas done through newly made assets, and well-written mysteries made with plenty of forethought and pre-written. AO is capable of none of those things. We go through over 2 entire games worth of cases in a week, even now during these slow times, we're stuck to the characters we know with pre-existing traits and characterizations that people tend to stick to, we will never not do anything other than hold a trial in some semblance of a courtroom, we're basically a glorified chat room, and we spend several hours in a trial pulling shit out of our collective asses. We can't innovate to ward off staleness in the same way AA can.

These "AA trials" hosted here are a shell of what they're striving for. It's only when we strive to push those boundaries and make something unique to AO that we end up with a case worth playing in and watching.
>>
>>160543883

Sorry to dismiss all that typing but uh

That's just, like, your opinion, man.

I'm fine with trials as they are now. Yes, they're not perfect, but they're perfectly fun. Like I said, if you want to try something new, try out a new format. Try to argue that your client couldn't have murdered the victim without fingering the true killer. Seriously, what is posting ITT going to do about what you dislike?
>>
Doing the same thing everyday for 11 months will make you bored of that thing.
In other news the grass is green.
>>
>>160544040
I'm hoping to accomplish several things with posting, such as putting out alternative ideas by having discussions with others across the various users of the server, especially those in different timezones than when I usually case. More importantly though, it's to help foster actual talk in this general so it can stop being a cesspool of shitposting just to keep it alive.

I do try to go for something other than just pointing the finger, although I have yet to try most of the new formats due to my limited casing time in the past few months.

I will leave you with this though. Some of our go-to best cases, Turnabout Ferris Wheel, Turnabout Spelunk, and even The Turnabout all didn't just have the "whodunnit" angle. Ferris Wheel had the defense defending themselves from accusations of being mafia, Spelunk involved the defense trying to argue the victim's death was an accident partway through, and The Turnabout basically stopped being about murder at the part everyone likes.
>>
>>160545139

The best things in this server has happened naturally instead of being forced.

Take that how you may.
>>
>>160545139

I can understand that, actually.

However, of course cases should be multi-faceted, but the fingering of the true killer, I'll still maintain, is the climax and the entire culmination of the trial. The murder is central to the entire story, therefore solving it is key. All those other facets you referenced happened during the course of chasing the truth of the murder. I think you dislike the usual formula of cases, and I do too, every case should be unique -- but finding the culprit doesn't cause the formula. Bad players who can't come up with unique shit cause the formula.

There's no silver bullet that changes one thing and makes all cases great forever. If you put good players in any kind of case, it will be a good case. However, if you say this, everyone will immediate jump on you as an elitist circlejerker and insist that there must be something wrong with how we do cases. Even though history proves that wrong entirely.
>>
>>160545460
>The best things in this server has happened naturally instead of being forced.

This is the most important thing.
Go with the flow.
Too often people try to force a good case and it always ends up shit.
>>
>>160545658

Mostly because people have (or used to) an obsession with being in a """legendary""" case, so many players try to force them and it just falls flat. Can't force greatness.
>>
>>160545573
Of course good cases come from good players, and bad cases from bad ones, but what about the people in between? I'm not saying that focusing away from the murder will automatically fix everything, but making people aware that there are more options than just gunning for the acquittal and widening the scope of what AO courts handle lets things be more flexible, and gives cases more of a chance to shine regardless of the "skill" composition of its participants, and allows cases doing more poorly to at least have a satisfying ending instead of just getting a flat out bad end guilty that leaves everyone unhappy.
>>
>Defense is literally going against the evidence and the detective findings.
>They are quite literally trying to mislead the evidence's wording.
>"I don't need a motive or means."
>Judge is penalizing the prosecution for trying to stop the utter flow of bullshit.
"DEFENSE MUST WIN MEME IS DEAD"
lul no.
>>
>>160546112

What about the people in-between? I think the people you're talking about are more gunning for an acquittal because that's how they end cases well. What I'm trying to say is that no matter how you change cases, a long-ass Guilty after 2 hours of debates will always be shitty.

What you are solving isn't shitty endings, but moreso final boss walling fucking a case. Which would be a benefit, but at what cost?

Like I told you ingame, work on the animation for the hat - you basically resized it for each frame, and that looks wrong and jarring. Also, fix the shadow on the hat if you're going to straight up rip it. The lighting in Mia's sprite and Butzsanta is not the same.

This stupid twitch reflex the average 4chan browser has to shitpost about anything that even mildly gets on their nerves, leading to chasing off new players or making frequent players into targets for their annoyances.

>How to improve
To be honest, if people figured out that whining and complaining about people just because you know who they are, does nothing but bog down a case. We need to just work together, ALL of us, to make this a better place to be. We have the capacity to be the most CIVIL (at face value) board ON /vg/.
Think about it, are we not (albeit virtual) L A W Y E R S ?
Lawyers take all of their hate and anger, all of their shitposting, and internalize it. Why can't we do the same?

I mean, it just means people are tired of the thread, and we discuss post case things more in game than here these days.
>>160708952
>>
The thread is cancer so it's no surprise people are staying away.
>>
>>160709207

Only cancer I see is people coming in and saying the thread is cancer
>>
>>160713134
It's that conflict seeking attitude that's the problem.
>>
The problem is that there's nothing to discuss in here. Everything is done in game, leaving this thread to be used for either announcements (also in-game) or shitposting.

Maybe we should make it a general Ace Attorney thread.
>>
>>160713516

Honestly, there's a lot to discuss. Basically all meta discussion could take place in the thread. The only issue is if, say, you post positively about something a player did in a case to encourage others to do so, you'll get accused of circlejerking. If you post negatively, you're a saltposter/fuck off, [Namedrop]. It's moreso that shitposters have completely taken over the general (the prevailing attitude in-game is literally >reading the thread) so no discussion can take place so shitposters continue to control the thread.
>>
>>160714610
>Basically all meta discussion could take place in the thread.
They do.
But nothing changes.
>>
>>160714658

Hell no it doesn't.

Pretty much all regulars and/or people who know what the fuck they're talking about all avoid the thread and purely discuss the state of AO and casing in game. This is because of the (justified) attitude I highlighted before.
>>
>>160713516

There used to exist a DS adventure-novel game general on /vg/ a few years back for a short while.
It was created to talk about games such as Ace Attorney, Zero Escape, Professor Layton and so on.
Started as an AA general, turned into a DS adventure game general, and then went back to AA only because it was hard to navigate spoilers from all the different games before finally dying.
>>
>>160714765
>Hell no it doesn't.
Yes it has, multiple times.
It's just that no one notices because, as you said, >Reading the thread.
>>
>>160714860

I didn't say NO meta discussion happens in the thread, I said that most of it doesn't.

And most of it doesn't. The thread goes into topics actually about casing like once every week at most. People discuss it in-game nearly everyday. My point being that if we moved that discussion to the thread, it'd actually serve a purpose.

Alright.

Detective Request meta is shit and should be thrown out.
>>
>>160715507

Detective requests make sense when the evidence specifically calls for it, e.g. "unidentified substance" or when something that obviously should be known isn't, like

>there's blood on the ground
>who does the blood belong to?
>We dunno lol

But otherwise it's kinda dumb. It's especially fucking stupid that the Prosecution gets requests. Both from a logical and ingame standpoint.

>If they wanted to know this why not request it during investigation?
>If you don't already have a solid case on Prosecution why the fuck did you start the case, build more.
>>
>>160715719
I've been saying this for months.
>>
>>160715856

Might I suggest playing Detective/participating in building more to offset it? Really, the whole thing's gotten out of hand. It slowly grew from a offhand thing you ask for during CE to another post-CE segment with it's own fucking rules.

Seriously, it's an issue.
>>
>>160716008
Fuck off Names.
>>
>>160716041

>If you post negatively, you're a saltposter/fuck off, [Namedrop]
>>
>>160715719
Agreed. Especially on the Prosecution note.

Even if something is vague like "unidentified substance", it doesn't need to be requested. The whole point of stuff like that is to give the detective a bit of room to spice things up with established evidence rather than suddenly inventing new evidence.
>>
>>160716226
Pretty much, now fuck off Names.
>>
>>160716251

Absolutely. I miss when it was only up to the detective what they wanted to asspull.

>Especially on the Prosecution note

I'd like to expand a bit more. There's been a worrying trend among Prosecutors that, rather than actually prosecute, they just cling to more and more generic incriminating evidence with the Defendant's finger prince all over it. And the requests shit only exacerbates it.

>build case specifically with the intent of having some mystery wiggle room the defense can work with, e.g. the defendant's prints not being on the weapon
>"Err, yes, Detective. Rather than come up with a reasonable theory as to why that piece of evidence exists, like a good prosecutor would, I'd like you to scan the entire crime scene with a Glove-finder 3000, and, failing that, just make up some shit about prints on the murder weapon. And make sure they're the Defendant's, of course. Thanks."
>>
>>160716617
It's mostly the concept of improvisation being lost on people.
Instead of going with it, they try to force it down a single path, crying and bitching if things take a turn they didn't expect.
>>
>>160716796
Agreed.

There was a Yew player the other day that interpreted an allergic reaction as a strangulation after it was proven that the victim ate toast with the thing he was "allergic" to.

She was shit on by the prosecution and the detective, and when the judge agreed with her they bitched at him too.
>>
>>160716796

>It's mostly the concept of improvisation being lost on people.

Basically. Literally the only ones even expected to think on their feet anymore are Defense. Prosecution can just sit back and rely on the finger prince, witnesses either all have a pad and 3 intended contradictions hidden behind 2 presses, and stonewall any other path to progress or make up bullshit on the spot and have no explanation for their contradiction so the Defense has to do it for them in all cases. I've almost completely lost faith that judging will even be semi-respected anymore, it is literally the glorified spectator role.

And now with requests being so pervasive we're trying to cut down the improv on the Defense's part, too. It's like somewhere along the way we decided that in order to make sure nobody struggles, we just have to make sure every case turns out the way everyone expects. No surprises, no twists, no "HEAVEN OR HELL, LET'S ROCK", just requests pre-ordaining the arguments that will happen after the fluff testimonies and CE's.
>>
>>160717382
That's bullshit though, in the cases I've had this past week the wits rolled with shit and the witnesses didn't wall me, and I had prosecutors who didn't just lie down and take it, but rather put up a good fight. Clearly people still know how to improv, the problem is that some people are such hardasses that it makes a bigger impact in your memory.
>>
>>160717382
>Be prosecution
>Think of a roundabout theory that explains an issue the defense has failed to explain that is supported with evidence
>Consider the evidence in a new way that still incriminates the defendant
>Be accused of walling when I don't budge on the defense's half-assed theories I refute with evidence/testimony

Sure is fun to play prosecution.
>>
>>160717624

Oh, yeah, good players exist still. I'm just saying that that's the mind-set a lot of people come in with. Admittedly, I was being hyperbolic. But it does describe a lot of the cases I've been seeing the past few months.

>>160717639

Then you are the exception, not the rule. The term "prosecution walling" used correctly is when shit like this happens:

>Judge is a spineless faggot who won't step in and call out Prosecution on their bullshit so he won't help
>Prosecution refuses to accept that a contradiction exists and instead """explains""" it with a mint-condition, complete conjecture from start-to-finish Rebuttal (TM) because they want to "win" and are "good" at Prosecuting even if the witness literally says that their Rebuttal (TM) isn't true
>Defense gives up after 2 hours of frustrating bullshit

And it does happen. Keep in mind, I'm not trying to bait a Defense vs Prosecution argument or anything, I'm just saying that a lot of Prosecution players are not playing optimally for everyone involved.

>>
>>160718326

>>
>>160717992
>witness literally says that their Rebuttal (TM) isn't true
That's when the witness needs to shut the hell up.
To many witnesses go along with some of the dumbest "Turnabouts".
Some pros wall so hard because they want a fucking turnabout to MAKE sense, and not be from fucking nothing.
>>
>>160719068
This.
>that one time hobo feen basically said "yes your conjecture theory is true" after he was caught committing perjury three times and, if he had said it was true, then it would inherently be another lie because it involved him hiding something.

>the judge accepts some fucking liars word and calls witness 1 back instead of ending it
>>
>>160719068
>>160719261

>the witnesses should shut up and let me, the Prosecutor, decide whether or not the Defense is right! Absolutely no way that could go wrong!

That's not how any of this is supposed to work.

In a perfect world the Judge would be the final say on this, but again, glorified spectator. But the idea that the Prosecutor should decide whether or not something is """bullshit"""" from the OPPOSING COUNSEL is stupid, I'm sorry.
>>
>>160719398
That wasn't the point of those two posts at all. The point was that witnesses intentionally go with stupid shit because the "defense must win", which leads to prosecutors angrily walling.

captcha: stop consulting
>>
>>160717281
That Yew suggested evidence that did not exist and contradicted herself several times.
>"He wasn't having an allergic reaction to the toast."
>When the prosecutor said that allergies can take time to work the Judge literally penalized him for nothing.

>Interpreted an allergic reaction as a strangulation.
>Even though the detective and the first witness would have caught that action in broad fucking daylight AND there were no marks or bruising.

That Yew did not interpret or wing anything, she outright lied to the Judge for a case and the Judge literally admitted to not paying attention.

Need I remind you that the Yew literally said: "I don't need a motive or means because this witness killed him I know it."

That's not improv. That's literally pulling shit out of your asshole because you don't have a clue what you're doing an the Judge isn't paying any sort of attention.

T.Witness 2 in that trial.
>>
>>160719569

No, the entire point of the post was the implicit assumption that if they, the Prosecutors, think something is "bullshit" then it's wrong and shouldn't be allowed to stand. One post directly stated that the witness AND the judge were on the Defense's side but that it's still wrong. So who else is left to acquiesce to the Defense in that scenario BUT the Prosecutor?
>>
>>160719398
>Theory has no basis in fact
>Witness wants to go to bed so they "confess"
>7 hours of MY time wasted
>I rebutt a bullshit theory as is my job
>judge penalizes me for 1/5 of my bar because "Defense must always win"
I'm sorry, wasting my time to win with bullshit is stupid, i'm sorry.
>>

Witnesses forgetting they (except for specific circumstances) work for the prosecution.
