Even with mods there is a serious lack of options for settlements as well. I have to collect things just to make shit look good.

I just want a mod that builds Sanctuary for me. I want everything to be pretty. Functional and cool, like a place I'd come to and want to explore. Without bushes in the fucking way of my wall. I can't even build a fucking wall around it because of how awful this game is.

True, the story itself isn't all too creative and it would be wrong to say the mod inventor created the story, it's just the similarities in design are so damn close. The non-story parts (sex with a robot, discussing art with a robot, the person who was killed having the same role and backstory) and the story parts (importance of voice modulation, the robotic's expert importance to the story) are just very similar.

It's in the rgb channels, it's hard to explain but do you have the nvidia unpacking tools?
The simplest thing I can tell you to get started would be to use the tool on a similar texture and look at it. See how certain materials are certain colors and then then do all editing using a black brush, white brush, or masks to get a similar effect on your textures. 9 times out of 10 you'll just completely black out the blue channel.
Also iirc you'll either want to export with 3dc compression, or use the repacking tools from the file as a tga by either dragging the file into the program or using command line.

I use 3ds Max 2016 to edit bits and pieces of models, like the engine on my Avenger minigun, I cut the bulk of it off.

But actually all you need to get a gun in game is just Nifskope and OS. Are you going to actually model your guns or just do gun ports? Its actually a lot like doing an outfit except there's no skinning involved, I've personally found that adding pieces to existing guns to be actually rather easy so far.

But anyway 3ds Max 2016 an Nifskope are about all you need for guns, OS is totally optional, but it was useful for editing some of the geometry of the motor device I made.

This might be a well known fact, but I just discovered it for the first time myself.

I was playing on Survival and got a "Graygarden is being attacked" message and since I was at Sanctuary Hills it was no trouble to go help them. When I got there one of the raiders had a rocket launcher, but I didn't think much of it at that moment. After killing the raiders and looting their stuff, I realized that it was MY rocket launcher that I had stored in the Graygarden.

I had no clue raiders can actually steal your stuff. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? Are there any particular rules on what raiders can steal since the rocket launcher they took was non-legendary?

I wasn't aware that raiders can take your things, but I know settlers will take things out of the Workbench and even containers you've made because Bethesda's a bunch of fucking idiots. I think Bethesda wrote in the strategy guide that settlers would only take if a weapon is out in the open, but they also loot from stashes and the Workbench.

As far as preventing it, I suppose if you just drop a container in a spot inaccessible to NPCs (put a container on a roof or behind a wall or something) or drop a safe and lock it with a terminal (although I've heard settlers can attempt to lockpick or hack and unlock this, too), you might be able to keep your stuff safe. That or just unload everything in an unpopulated settlement like the Diamond City house.

Putting it out of their reach won't stop them either because when you're gone they tend to teleport to any walkable space including your elevated penthouse

I've posted this before but

And even worse, they were using my couches and chairs and sleeping in my bed. they also likely helped themselves to food in my fridge, because recently I noticed Quantums missing from my fridge and surprise surprise, one of my settlers which I found in my quarters and summarily had executed was carrying 3 of them.

You cannot stop them. There is nowhere they cannot go to steal your shit.

Waifu fags stayed in TESG and both NV and 3 had still a lot of hidden lore to explore. 4 is just terrible. The base game and DLC are mediocre at best, the big quest mods and feature rich overhauls aren't even planned and the lore isn't worth exploring.

I considered this. I have some robot provisioners, but I also use human provisioners just because I like dressing them up in a uniform set of clothing and weapons. Granted I cheat, so it makes it easier to just make the weapons and armor without having to craft it, but it's nice seeing my uniformed men and women (and ghouls) wandering about with their Brahmin.

-The Institute ending has zero chance of being canon.
-The only other ending the BoS HAS to die is the Railroad one, and even then, the Railraod questline can be broken, and then they tell you to use the Minutemen, so you don't have to kill them.
-The Minutemen CAN destroy the BoS, but don't have too.
-Even if the Minutemen win, the BoS can still get a horde of tech, supplies, and recruits from The commonwealth region, and make deals with settlements to expand their reach.

The reason why I suspect Bethesda will go the south for Fallout 5 is because, if you look at both Fallout 3 and 4, both are used to cover a larger area culturally then they do physically.

Fallout 3
-Was set in D.C., and had party of Maryland, Virginia, and a bit of west Virginia in its map
-Had The Pitt DLC which took up to Pennsylvania
-And while we didn't get to see it directly, we got lore about places liky Philly, Atlantic City, Erie, etc. etc., to kind of tell us about how smaller places in that region are doing.

Fallout 4
-Take places in Boston, which is really the only major city in New England worth a fuck
-We got Far Harbor and Nuka World to show us what other places in New England are like
-We got indirect mentions of placed like NYC, so we could learn about them as well.

With Fallout 3/4 combined they have covered basically the entire east coast from Maine down to Virginina.

Fallout 5 being set somewhere in the Carolinas/Georgia would make sense, and would cover the last part of the east coast they haven't covered yet.

Both Bethesda and Obsidian have said they each have their own coasts they like to work with because they live on those coasts(bethesda is HQed outside Washington, while Obsidian is near LA).

Fallout 4 may indriectly mention NYC thugh. A holotape on thep rydwen has a solider talking about passing over citites with buildings tall enough to clip the Prydwen, and that these buildings are overrun by mutants and freaks.

The only cities with buildings that tall between D.C. add Boston are Philly and NYC.

So there is a very good chance NYC still exists, but thats its just like Philly in that its an even more ruinous dump full of ghouls, raiders, and other shit then D.C. and Boston are

Yep, no cap on how many robots you can have. First thing I typically do on any settlement I unlocked in the DLCs was make a robot to instantly link it to all my linked settlements, bam, instantly can use all my shit. The lack of a cap on robots is also good for farming purposes. Its also good for scavenge stations but only if you have the uncapper mod activated, but robots IMO are most efficient on farming as they require no food and everything they make is 100% profit.

On my BoS character I made peace between Far Harbor and the Nucleus then wiped out Acadia and on my Institute character I blew up the Nucleus and reclaimed DiMA and the Synths.

Also have a third character who is based around the Children of Atom but I haven't finished Far Harbor with, probably going to destroy Far Harbor since they're full on crazy.

ironically Morrowind might have been a mistake for them, a hyper-focused hand built world with a lot of story focus vs a dynamic world where you're just a random dude who gets handed a big quest.

I like radiant quests because RPGs have a tendency to try to make every single quest into some big ass conspiracy, and generally tend to ignore the fact that 99% of problems in life are generally pretty mundane.

9 times out of 10, when raiders are threaning a settlement, its just because they are raiders, and whats what they do. There isn't some super subplot about the raider leader being the brother on the settlement mayor who wants revenge over some dumb thing or another.

Same thing with super mutants, ghouls, and other things.

Radiant quests also
A. Provide reasons to explore places that otherwise have no quest, and you wouldn't normally go to
B. Give you more EXP for doing those things, making doing those things more rewarding then had you done them without the radiant quests.

The mundaneness of those quests also makes the non radiant quests like "The Silver Shroud", "The Last voyage of the USS Constitution", and "The Secret of Cabot House" stand out more, rather then every single quest being like them, thus making them fairly normal and unmemorable quests.

Oh, sure, the extra reward and XP I can understand as a bonus, like when you first meet Danse and co. at the station and that one woman starts giving you radiant quests. You get a ton of XP and caps from doing those early on, if I remember correctly. Well, no matter how you divide up the map, theres still going to be lots of places that just aren't near anything major MQ or SQ wise.

We say this in Oblivion, where there were huge parts of the map barely anyone touched because nothing took them anywhere close to it, even if they explored the fuck out of the places around all the shit they were taken too.

Radiant quests were made as something of a response to that.

Its not the sole reason people go to those places, but it does help motivate people who might otherwise not.

What's the biggest performance killer in this game? I seem to be getting random frame drops in different locations and what I can only assume to be memory leak as my framerate gets progressively worse over time.

Load game up, select "New game," and it literally sits there, showing the little loading icon, doing nothing. I deleted Alternate Lives, thinking that was the issue. Nope. I've let it sit for like thirty minutes, still not loading.

I think the highest possible carry weight is a companion in Power armor with calibrated leg armor and the strength upgrade for the torso. So X-6 in Power armor I guess?

For robots, the highest possible carry weight is 605 but thats with sentry legs, and they get stuck on absolutely everything. I made a pic a few days ago that shows differences in carry weight with the 3 leg options available, but remember, Protectron is slower than molasses and sentry bot get stuck on everything. Robobrain treads are nice but they have pretty shitty carry weight, when they should have a higher amount desu.

You also can get the most carry weight with Mr Handy torsos for some reason, so use those with all the upgrades to max carry weight.

Eat grilled radstags and drink beer to boost your carrying capacity, but don't try to carry too much of those or they will eat up your carrying capacity. Take strong back and If you have a companion, give some of your stuff to them or take lone wanderer if you don't. Don't try to pick up everything, but prioritize picking up rare materials and weapons with lots of mods on them since they can be scrapped for a lot of materials. Also don't try to have huge arsenal of weapons with you, just keep the ones you really need and dump the rest at a workshop or home plate. Same goes for ammo.

I personally find medium weight weapons (rifles, shotguns and so on) to be the best in survival, though pistols are fine as well if you choose to specialize on them. Automatic weapons are bad because they need to much ammo and heavy weapons typically weight so much that you can't keep more than a few shots worth of ammo for them. Junkjet is an exception because it's ammo weighs nothing (use pre-war money).

If you use power armor, the calibrated shocks + motion assisted servos + military paint can give you tons of space to carry shit.
Also Lorenzo's Serum is pretty much an extra fifty units whenever you need it. It's worth noting too that grilled radstag and gazelle steaks will stack for even more carry weight, buffout can help as well.

SB: One last Fallout 4 related question. Bethesda, specifically the lead BGS writer Emil Pagularo, have taken some heat for multiple lore inconsistencies found in Fallout 4. For example, according to Fallout 4, jet was available pre-war and not created by Myron in Fallout 2. Also, there is an Enclave Power Armor suit at Nuka World that was also made pre-war (when it explicitly states in the game it was created post war), among other inconsistencies. How much is making sure all the lore in your games adds up and is consistent something you focus on in your games? And do you take issue with Bethesda at all for these lore inconsistencies?

CA: Do I take issue with them? No. (And considering what jet was originally made from, that lore point should make a lot of players happy.)
Even so, when inheriting a franchise, sometimes I, too, take exception to previous decisions as well (talking deathclaws in F2, talking animals, ghosts, Wannamingoes that look like HR Giger knock-off monsters, etc, etc.), even stuff I've done that I realized later was the wrong decision for the sake of a cheap joke (esp. 4th wall-breaking jokes).

And why is that? The only reason the Institute had to destroy the Brotherhood is because they were hell bent on destroying them.
The Enclave would be happy to work with them because they're an enclave (lel) of pure humans and the Institute would probably like to work with an organization as technologically advanced as they are.

In the end it would probably come down to who is the director of the Institute and who is leading the Enclave.

They're about as pure as the Enclave could hope to find at this point, like this guy points out >>160043395 there is pretty much no pure humans left anymore. The Institutes idea of the surface world dying out lines up pretty well with the Enclave's ideas as well.

Like I said, it depends on who's leading the organizations. If you side with the Institute the SS is the director and one of the few pure humans left, the idea of them working with the Enclave practically writes itself.

I am both the people you quoted.

The difference between The Institute and the Enclave is that The enclave actively seek to purge all life on the surface, while The Institute doesn't really care about the surface, or trying to claim it for themselves.

The people of The Institute actually show pretty clear sympathy for the people of the surface, and would be against any of the Enclave's plans to KILL EVERYONE!

Their end goals are still the same, preserving humanity. There is no reason they couldn't work out a mutually beneficial agreement, they both could use allies at this point. Besides the Enclave all but abandoned the idea of killing all wastelanders with the destruction of Eden.
