I'm 100hours of pvp in with 50hours of pve afk grinding (when it was a thing) and i'm still missing almost half of the cast. In the amount of time I've sunk in if I bought the game off of a keysite for the same price I would've had everything unlocked three fold by now.

No. Starter pack has 12,5k renown price per basic operators and 25k per DLCs. So it's about 40-50 matches to get new operator if you forget about challenges and CTU sales. Anyway too much grindy on my taste so standard is better choice for everyone even if you have a lot of time to play. And anyway you can find standard edition for price about 20€ so no reason to buy starter.

Whether it can hit 2 walls or 1 is largely irrelevant either way the bandit trick as we know it (listening for a plant, ads above drone hole etc.) is dead.
The biggest deal is if her charges can be jammed or not. If they can be jammed then a new trick can be developed, my guess is it'll involving mute/bandit juggling jammers/batteries with a valk on outer cams having to give extremely precise callouts on when to pick up and replace gadgets to keep the attackers guessing or avoid emps, whatever the new op combination to hold a wall ends up being it'll be massively harder to do and the amount of coordination it'll require will effectively make it impossible to hold a wall below platinum and without a 3/4 man premade. If they cant be jammed than it will be near impossible for even pro tier players to hold shit.

I'm cautiously optimistic but considering she has the potential to completely rebuild the meta not just in regards to loss of the bandit trick and change in defensive team comp to react to that, but she's also gonna change how certain maps have played out since launch, reshuffling which sites are good and which sites are bad (favela packaging and house garage will probably shift to near 100% attacker winrate because of her) across all 3 modes.
I was getting kinda bored of the stale meta but i really hope the first significant change that ubi makes doesn't kill the fucking game...

Not a bad start, go with whatever seems interesting to you.
As for gameplay advice, map knowledge is king. Poke around in terror hunt or a custom game, watch iceycat's map guides, just take some time to learn because holy shit these maps are complex by modern FPS standards. And learn to be the right amount of patient on both sides. Time is a resource to be spent intelligently, not hoarded or thrown away. Too many people rush in when they have time to scout and listen.

Thatcher and maybe Ash for offense. Ash requires more skill with movement though. Thatcher is just tapping your special ability 3 times.

Defense is solid, maybe Pulse as an addition.

General advice would be to learn the maps a lot, most people know the usual angles, so experiment in casual and sometimes ranked with floors, windows, etc. You'd be surprised at how many rooms have breakable floors beneath them on some maps.

When ignoring weapons and looking only at abilities, other than Thermite which you already have,

Mute places jammers which prevent Thermite's charges. A must have for Hostage and Secure Area. Also disables drones and other gadgets. He's also a nice combo with Castle.
When Castle reinforces a window, it's very vulnerable to Fuze's cluster charges and breach charges. As Mute you can place a jammer at Castle's barricade to prevent that.
Bandit also helps countering Thermite.

Thatcher is the butt-buddy of Thermite. He throws magic disco balls at walls to disable Mute's jammers. Often needed on Hostage and Secure area.

Jäger prevents getting fucked by explosives (grenades, Fuze's cluster charge, etc) landing in your room during Secure Area. However, on Hostage you might want to NOT use him so the enemy can accidently blow up the hostage making you win.

These have always been commonly needed operators. Which doesn't mean other operators aren't handy dandy, it's just that they're very optional.

However:
Tachanka is useless compared to other operators. There are a very few situations where you can meme him into use, but it won't be untill "Tachanka Buff Update" for him to be actually useful (Hopefully).

IQ, although very cute, is not very useful imo. However, she can detect Pulse and seek out Valkyrie's "Black Eyes" easily, which is nice.

best is to barricade shit that leads to the outside. This will force them to make a "loud" entry on that area. However the doors are NOT shields. do not stupidly stand in front of them and think you're safe. I play mainly glaz on attack and doing a drone check - castle wallbang is my FAVOURITE thing to do in the whole game.

Just try not to castle doors that lead to the objective. I know it sounds like a good idea, because "Oh I can cut off the enemy here!" but it is questionable at best. chances are high that your enemies just take another entry towards the objective and now all you've done is create a barrier that stops your friends from helping from there.
