Faster than that if you have any modifier to mineral production or build cost.

I go with like,

>Battleships with kinetic artillery and amoebas
>2 cruisers with torpedoes and amoebas for every battleship
>2 destroyers with kinetic artillery and flack artillery for every cruiser
>2 torpedo corvettes for every destroyer

No idea if this is optimum, but I haven't suffered any major embarrassments with it. It's always been able to win against fleets with equal or lesser combat power.

kinetic weapons seem to be the best all around weapon at any tech level in 1.3, but strike craft and torpedoes are situatonaly better. The fact that hangars are now tied to point defenses means that there isn't much reason not to bring them along as they will protect your capitals while also raping enemies who forgot point defenses of their own.

If I don't have lategame tech I improvise, interceptor corvettes and broadside cruisers if torpedoes aren't available yet, and if amoebas aren't available then my cruisers will carry fighters or scouts, and my battleships will carry an equal mix of fighters and bombers for a 3:1 ratio overall.

Sometimes I give my battleships spinal weapons, but overall they have a lower DPS than the pair of Kinetic artillery which you can put in the same slot. The only advantage is 20km extra range, which isn't much of an issue when you already have so many.

This is just my experience though. If anybody has a better build I'd like to hear it. I'm actually wondering if a combination of cruisers with artillery+hangars and corvettes with torpedoes would be simpler.

Alright so I've been looking on the wiki and on the steam forums but no one's specifically mentioned this, just empire happiness as a whole but in Age of Wonders 3 is there a way to increase racial happiness other than just migrating cities? I want to switch a few cities around but that'd get me a net loss on racial happiness.

>>
>>159693005
That will increase the happiness of just the city, the latest dlc they put out adds racial governance which is how fondly each of the races feel about you, including independents and enemies. You get more governance points if you have a city of one of the races and it is multiplied by how much they love/hate you as an entire race.
>>
>>159689634
>How do I get people to like me?
You don't.

If you have to, give them gold (not gpt), use same government type, fill out their agendas. send a trade route, suck their dick. You'll still get denounced 2 turns after meeting someone if they're on previous generation of governments, though. Might as well not bother and just see about having one butt buddy you constantly renew friendship with, it's usually enough.
>>
>>159693849
That sounds awful.
>>
>>159694056
It would be if you didn't get dank level ups with huge bonuses from it. If you focus on just one race it's piss easy to get them to cheerful and have all your units get an ezpz +200 morale as well as a bunch of economy and unit upgrades. With 2 it's still sort of easy but you'll basically be splitting the goodwill and with any more you basically can't boost it since you'll have so few cities that won't hurt the relations you need if you migrate.
>>
>>159694328
Is the migration happiness permanent?
>>
>>159686249
I've legit never seen my mom alive and dad died 16 years ago when I was 5
>>
>>159694798
All racial happiness is permanent, so in my image you can see migrating gives +50 to whoever your migrating but -100 to whoever you kicked out. To get it back to neutral I'd have to migrate Tigrans into 2 cities.

Since when can you export people? Did Stellaris become a fun game?

>>159695940
Because he doesn't need to compensate for anything. ROME STRONK

Question: Does settling on a resource in CIV6 destroy it? Also, is there a way for the game to remember your game settings? I'm tired of turning off time limits, setting the map to standard, and raising the difficulty every single time.
>>
>>159696478
Settling on a bonus resource (the harvestable type) will erase it and you get no benefit. Settling on a luxury or strategic resource works the same way it did in 5.
>>
>>159696478
>Since when can you export people? Did Stellaris become a fun game?

There's resettlement.
You move people by paying influence.
Then there's migration where they move of their own will.

It's been there since the beginning of the game.
>>
>>159696478
>Since when can you export people? Did Stellaris become a fun game?
You always could. You need resettlement compatible ethos to do it well tho.
>>
What civ in the current base game should get the first extra leader?

>>
>>159689634
the ai in civ6 will hate you no matter what
even if they have literally no reason to hate you they will make cities one tile from your border and then tell you to settle further away from them
and then they will decide to declare war on you, mobilize their entire army onto your border, and then declare war "because you had troops on their border"
>>

Have the core/system things been fixed in Stellaris? They are the only things I really hate about the game.

How does occupation work in the late game in Civ VI? It feels like cities remain occupied forever, unless I wipe out the civ that formerly owned it.

It's gotten better. And you have much more fune control about what exactly sectors are allowed to do.
However afaik they're still shit at building planet-specific buildings. Though to be fair maybe they're maximin-ing correctly. If the happiness gain doesn't net you enough boosted production to compensate for the opportunity cost of building another mine instead, then there's no point in the happiness building.

Yes, I was so excited for this game. Then I won 5 consecutive deity games. Then I tried to get all the achievements. Now I have nothing to do. The only exciting part of the game is the early barbarian rush. Once you get eight cities, victory is trivial.
>>
I know everyone is talking about Civilization VI, but I just started with these kind of games and I can't run very powerful games so I'm stuck with Civilization V, and I've followed the modding thing so the game is balanced and stuff, and I followed the tutorial so I kind of know what I'm doing, but why is there such a jump in difficulty from level 3 to level 4? It's as if I'm playing two different games at that point and I don't like it.

mods like alpha mod allow you to produce strategic resources that are then consumed on other planets

for instance you can produce bio-pods from biomass on a planet with high food output, and then those pods can be processed to output like 15 food by a special building

can help with fringe colonies

but no, no trading, paradix hates fun

Stellaris really needs SOME sort of trade before it makes any sense.

It has a lot of features (literally everything present in Sci-Fi is featured), but the interface is so clunky I can barely finish the early game before quitting in frustration.

That's not what I meant. In other games, I use silly, extremely situational features to elicit WTF. In SpringRTS (BA), for instance, I put nuclear mines onto choke points and metal spots. Noone uses mines in normal gameplay.

What mods are you using for your Civ VI experience, /civ4xg/?

At this early stage, I'm not entirely sure what to use - especially since this is my first 4x game and only the jankest of the jank is readily apparent to my virginal sense of balance. I'm using the Combined AI Cleanup, 8 Ages of Pace, and CQUI.

This seems promising, but I'm not sure:

Heathen Conversion Reformation Belief.

Move 1 prophet next to a barbarian, and have 3 missionaries adjacent to your prophet, but not to the barbarian.
As the barbarian moves into the tile of the prophet, each missionary tries to convert the units in that tile giving you 3 of that barbarian unit, your intial prophet and 2 more prophets.

Borobudur is useful for this since you want 3 or at least 2 missionaries for this.

Korea if you want to make the most of the holy sites.

Well the in-game description suggests that pottery allows you to "harvest wheat" which I guess doesn't mean much because you can build farms on it regardless.

I think it's okay this way, I'd love to keep an extra tile that's adjacent to a mountain

Husbandry - you get a production from builder on an animal, but only gold from a fruit. Stick to 4pop until you can build on that fruit. You might be able to get husbandry and pottery+irrigation by the time your builder is on his final charge anyway because of the wheat.

He's meh, so is Gorgo. Extra wildcard lets you be more flexible with your policies and there's none too impactful until the late game. Hoplites are good as defensive against cavalry rushes but becomes obsolete quickly. Extra bonus from CS, meh. You have 5 different type of CS ranging from military to religion and you'll only get their bonus accordingly. Against aggressive Civs who will just swallow other CS, you'd be lucky to settle close to the ones that are useful to you. Cheap cultural districts, whatever.

tldr he's a mediocre culture centric civ with bonuses from random CS.

Warmonger penalties are inconsequential because the AI will absolutely fucking loathe you for playing properly

The few civs that actually are supposed to like you for playing properly (Rome, Scythia, England, America) will probably still become unfriendly or even denounce out of nowhere despite never triggering their agenda

Also, the hidden agenda of every civ in the game will lead to them loathing you, and even civs with a big green face on their roster will ruin their standing with the entire world by surprise waring you in Renaissance because you are -only- keeping two or three machine guns in reserve, and enough money and production to get 10 in five turns

Religious Community is okay because housing is a pain in the ass in the mid-game

Feed the World needs a disproportionate investment in good Holy Sites placement and thus less good than it sounds, even though something like 15 food off your holy site is cray cray. Probably better if you are going for religion already

Reliquaries is unusuable unless you have a super specific setup like Kongo + Kandy + Yerevan + Unexplored Map

Zen Meditation is okay-ish, but honestly if your amenities are fucking you over, just build entertainment complexes and invest in Great Merchants

I hate how the AI, if left alone builds infinitely until they fill every tile on the map. It makes it so that if you focus on anything besides building outward you are screwed when every other civilization has 15-25 cities.

>>
>>159736912
Don't bother, religious victory has to be the most underwhelming one. You have to dump production into religious shit which means you're not putting them into culture, research or units. However while the first gets you strong civic card things, second gets you tech advantage, and last lets you capture cities, religion does absolutely nothing and everyone hates you to hell and back because you convert their cities.

On the top of that, there is no point at which going for religious victory gets exciting. You send a wave of apostles to convert a holy city, convert it, AI complains, you spread your aids to nearby cities until apostles get used up, AI denounces you. Repeat 5 more times. For some reason AI only buys religious units in the holy cities, so if you convert it it'll just spread your religion instead.

Then at some point when you convert a city, a very shitty movie most of which is a moving still image starts playing. You won, it's ogre, gj, you are cool

Industrial zones and Commercial districts are a must to stay competitive. After that you can kinda focus on what you'd like but generally speaking a campus for a third district won't do you wring.

FUCK YOU
>>
>>159739538
Industrial ones are probably biggest deal breakers in the game but commercials aren't that much of a big deal considering you can get most of your income from trade deals anyway. I guess they give you trade routes? The food for growth is useful. But it doesn't even come close to factories in importance.
>>
>>159739185

Start with a Commercial district, the trade route is game breaking strong if you are smart and send it FROM YOUR EXPAND over to your capital

Then, add a Campus district. Tech is just that much more valuable than Civics. If you're ahead in tech, you get more buildings to improve your districts quicker, and better troops to defend your SimCity with when the AI decides to throw some abortion of a siege at your border cities

Industrial is usually third. Not only is it late in the opening tree, but it's very hard for a city to connect its production buildings by itself. This is where the money to buy things, the flat production and food to enable the district and the science comes in

You can switch Industrial with Science if the city is that exceptional in either, but Commerce usually always comes first

Don't settle off-river unless you have an excellent engineered Capital - Commercial - Harbor - Sea Resources setup. Rivers are just too critical for food and important district placement

A mountain within two tiles of your city (or a body of fresh water you can't settle right on) can substitute for real fresh water, although you lose the free two housing from building an "useless" aqueduct, which can hurt in the middle game because it usually gates your fourth district
>>
>>159739897
You can choose if you want to have animated leaders or static pictures in either regular settings or graphics settings.
>>
>>159739981
>I guess they give you trade routes?
Untill industrial era and factories, you get better ROI on hammers and food from commercial district+cravan than on industrial zone+building. Gold helps new cities, especially those w/o fresh water, to develop quickly into productive ones. The only notable exception is if you can put down a lot of industrial zones near/around a bunch of mines, or if you are japan.

Agree on a good deal of them, it's hard to beat good old fashioned full orchestra. Some of them are standouts though, like Russia's and its actual choir and Japan's.

The new main theme just doesn't stand up well to Baba Yetu though, but that's a tough peak to surpass.

districts are really the entirety of progress in the game as they contain all the relevant buildings, you are really only as good as the number of districts you have.

if you are afraid early game just spam warriors. the god of the forge bug and ahoge makes them extremely cheap to build, they have no maintenance cost, and they are pretty serviceable. you can support them with maybe 3 archers and 1 spearman for the eureka boosts.

The process has already begun. There are a bunch of AI/UI/Balance on civ fanatics. Eventually they will develop into something solid, just like 5 did. Fireaxis clearly was unwilling to invest into coders/designers before release, but they might change policy post release, tho I wouldn't bet on it.

>>159744706
its mostly in your ship designs, they have to be made to perfectly counter who you are fighting
you also need greedy locations for when you are landing your colonist ships to get the max out of the 4 adjency bonus
colonizing right planets with right buffs will help you a lot too
using tons of synths the moment that you can
having the right ethics to be able to befriend neighbours and only fight when you want to
being in good relations with other empires will let you move around in their territories and see how you have to design your ships for the fight
but none of that matters if you get a shitty start with no resources

It's a decent game with AI designed by 1 guy on his off day, UI designed by alien internse with touch controls in mind and balance holes you can drive a battleship through.
>>
>>159751720
I hoped 4's border system would be back for 6 but guess it'd be too difficult to make it work with hexagons. So it got replaced with a random tile growth with no indication on whether the city will acquire tiles at all.

>What exactly is wrong with it?

The AI is crazy in diplomacy and below mediocre in gameplay. Every leader ends up denouncing you and everyone else because of a new mechanic that's in place, and the AI never upgrades its units, neither does city states. I actually abandoned a game after I was walking about with modern tanks and the AI was still using crossbowmen. City-states on the other hand was still using warriors and galleys.
>>
>>159751970

> I actually abandoned a game after I was walking about with modern tanks and the AI was still using crossbowmen. City-states on the other hand was still using warriors and galleys.

Something to note: barbarians can spawn modern era units and then raze the shit out of city states late game if they still have warriors and xbows and whatever
>>
>>159752268

i wasn't hyped at all. vi is a bad game, largely because beach et al are bad designers.
>>
>>159752268
>quite a few people are enjoying it
It's really easy to enjoy 6 on the first playthough because you take the oddities as a surprise, after 3-4 games you realize AI always hates you and hates each other, is so awful at warfare it's impossible to lose a war, is fine with selling great works for an orange, etc.

It's not a hype backlash, if you can into civ 5 then by second or third game you should be able to cheese deity with scythia or even germany or aztecs.
>>
>>159752836
>>159752583
I'm not saying it's an amazing game, just that not everyone plays on high difficulty, or get's into minmaxing as much as us. So for some all that is changed is that they had to go one-two tiers up on difficulty table and learn to rely less on diplomacy. Then you have people who play MP.

Point is, calling it a bad game is not accurate. It holds 4th top ranking on steam now, and like it or hate it, that's a very solid argument in game's favor.

Yes and they had to go a tier or so up specifically because of game's flawed AI, among other issues. AI can't handle itself too well even with bonuses on immortal, if someone's playing on prince and can't win then safe to say his opinion about Civ 6 is utterly meaningless.

Hell, even if you played civ 6 as your first 4x game you should realize using early game units late game is a nono. AI can't even do that.

The game wasn't build with MP in mind as chopfest has proven.

The problem is that I really feel a good game in the technical mess that is Civilization VI. There are some really cool ideas; Districts, changes to religious combat, national parks. But it's just such a rushed botched release.

And honestly, I'm getting real sick of people defending developer laziness with "Mods will fix it." I don't want mods to fix it. I want developers to make a good game

It's kinda hard to find a good tutorial, because civ tutorial video is nonsense as an idea. Watch filthyrobot, marbozir or quill16 campaign with your preffered civ and copy what they are doing. Earlier campaigns have more explanations compared to later ones.

As someone who hasn't played that many 4x games, but really enjoyed grand strategy, I'm finding that I'm having a weirdly hard time getting into Civ VI. I feel like there's a lot of things here that I should, by all means, like, but after playing for a bit I keep feeling like the game bogs me down with so much that I can't focus on any one aspect of it or strategize for anything.

Try and maneuver troops for a war and I've got to take a bunch of turns to get them all in position, so in between each of those movements the game demands I figure out what each city should build next, then oh research is done time to pick a new one, oh new civic time grab a new one of those, oh this civilization is making some demand/this city-state has some quest, etc. to the point where it feels like a lot of busywork decisions in between any meaningful action. Maybe I've just been spoiled by getting used to the time slowing/speeding up mechanics in GS games?

Well I'm saying Civ VI here just cause it's what I'm trying to play most recently, but I found I kinda ran into this feeling to a lesser extent when trying Endless Legend as well. Civ combat is abysmal, this is known. You will have to get used to it if you like the rest of the game enough to stick around. When you do, it becomes less of a chore.
>I figure out what each city should build next, then oh research is done time to pick a new one, oh new civic time grab a new one of those
Use queues.
>civilization is making some demand/this city-state has some quest
Well, this is how 4x diplomacy works. it's hard to imagine anything but in a turn based 4x.
>Maybe I've just been spoiled by getting used to the time slowing/speeding up mechanics in GS games?
If you are SP only player, then yes. Similar backlash can be felt when switching to /gsg/ MP, where speed is more or less constant.

>>159780806
>victory is inevitable
Much like few /gsg/ games ever hit end date, victor is determined far in advance of any semblance of victory screen, some prefer to stick around, some start a new game.

All in all, you might just dislike turn based games. Tastes vary after all.

I'm not quite sure what the total amount of slaves in my empire is, or what the calculations behind the number of votes are, but I'm pretty sure they don't count as full citizens. That's from a quick estimate. I honestly can't be bothered to calculate the exact population of 20 planets.
Oh well, if the slaves didn't work, the genocide sure did.

I really want this game to have a detailed demographics screen. It's weird that it doesn't have it, considering you can see the population of other empires, and the game gets sort of autistic about describing planets.

Because this was the only planet in the galaxy where Wrems lived, being the only race that doesn't need air to live. It would be great if I could enslave them and make them slave away on my airless colonies.

So after a really long game on epic as Russia where I tried to heavily focus on culture and early faith I only have one question.
What the fuck is the point of culture?

Some of the key civics, especially those that unlock the new government formations are cool, but you don't need pretty much 90% of them. Border growth is whatever and you just usually end up shitting out tons of great writers, musicians and other artists really early just to not have any place for their works which forces you to build the shitty theatrical districts and upgrades to it which leads to you missing out on actually important stuff like production and science.

Culture needs some serious ass buffs/reworks as in for example influencing other civilizations with your pop stars, getting shitloads of money and political influence for concerts/shows, being able to build cool stuff much easier with your culture etc.
>>
Guys is the "Alpha Mod" good for Stellaris?
>>
>>159793561
China isn't nearly good enough to get "all" the wonders and spending builders on worthless wonders only increases the cost of future builders you need to actually improve tiles. Also, the ancient and classic wonders are taken quickly anyway if you're playing on anything above pleb difficulty.

>>159793516
Venetian Arsenal looks really sweet but founding a city that has a prime spot for it is a pain in the ass (needs to be in coastal waters, next to an industry zone) since industry zones tend to be placed next to mine clusters.
>>

A better question is "what the fuck is the point of anything except making loads of units".

>>159794445
isbs and new ship types both work for the ai, if you want to use them together you'll have to use a compatability patch
http://stellaris.smods.ru/archives/3370
http://steamcommunity.com//workshop/filedetails/?id=758942169
the patch mod should work fine with 1.3.1, ai is definitely fully using NSC ships but titans and higher are hard to get to, seen only one in my first game with both mods
>>
>>159794445
isbs balance includes all the ships in itself but it also buffs fallen empires and every crisis and does some extra balancing, if you just want the ships there is a standalone version of the mod with them only
the balance version is more fun for me,gives you an actual opponent to fight in the face of every crisis and all fallen empires
another thing about using these mods, you want to use advanced ship behaviour

if you dont the carriers and the flagship from new ship types will sit waaaaaaaay far back in fights and be straight up useless while the rest of your fleet get decimated
it doesnt matter if its just new ship types or new ship types and isbs, carriers and flagship are just shit without this mod
if you are using both it hurts extra bad because the titans and leviathans from isbs charge in with the rest of your ships and losing them is a terrible thing for your bank
there is a mod in the workshop to make isbs compatible with advanced ship behaviour but it didnt work for me so i edited isbs myself to make it work
here is the edited isbs balance version

right now culture/science/religion victories feel like milling from MtG: a mechanism barely connected to the core game which allows your enemies to roam free until the very last turn. I single domination/production civ can cripple any alternative victory civ in 20 turns ruining their 200 turn build ups

Hey guys, I have a pirated very early version of stellaris on my laptop, is it much better with patches or whatever or should I just stick to this?

I don't know which version you have but the end game crisises are fixed as are the precursor questlines. Also ethics divergence isn't as wonky as it was in the first versions. They added really points, galaxy creation options at the start of a game, weapons are rebalanced and the ship design you use against an emipre has actually matters. Wormholes is still the best ftl method, wormhole is now half decent. Mineral silo's are not complete shit and you can move your capital. Loads of minor changes to the base game really. Midgame still isn't that interesting, while endgame got a bit better because the crisises got more dangerous and fallen empires can awake.
>>
>>159798987
I only ever played one game which didn't go that long, can you elaborate a little, what's end game crises, do fallen empires never awake without the fixes? Percursor?

>>159799162
Awakened empires is something of the leviathans dlc. But some of the end game crisises were bugged in the earlier versions of the game. The precursor quest lines are the longer quest lines you get at the start about and ancient empire that dissapeared some of them were broken as well. Also In the latest version the sector ai is not completely retarded, still stupid but not retarded. How your ships are disigned actually matters how wel they will do against certain enemies and the ai makes much more balanced ships and is more competative in this respect.
