Don't worry, this is most likely the last time I post it as my assignment is due Tuesday.

I'm doing my last media theory assignment on SMT 1 and 2.
Been doing film theory for about 3 years now and I'm not sure about other universities but mine wants to be hip and offers the chance to write about video games.
Never did it because it'll probably be hard to write but since this is my final one I thought I'd do it.

So I've only gone SMT 1 twice and 2 once, and probably missed a lot of side missions or whatever else.
But I figured people here might have a pretty good idea on a lot of info or opinions on the games.
I'm mainly writing about Law and the Western figures of SMT 1 and 2 and the ideology behind why and how they're presented.
But I'm looking for any info and opinion people have here.

So what are your thoughts on why SMT 1 and 2 are the way they are?
Cultural influence, historical influence, social influence?

There is so much going on and it undoubtedly has a reflection of the humanity within the game in many diverse aspects.

I feel like most of the ideologies that inspired the law vs chaos conflict in early SMT come from Gnosticism, Luciferianism (look into them, even if it's just summaries and sources from Wikipedia), and the book Paradise Lost; which unsurprisingly paints YHWH as someone who is always right no matter what and effortlessly smites anyone who stands in his way. But it introduced the idea that Lucifer is not just some villain who does evil for the sake of being evil, but he has ideologies of his own, and he doesn't buy everything God says, since he believes that humans should be allowed to choose their own path wherever that may lead them... although the book itself also hints that Lucifer tries to do this just to spite YHWH; so Lucifer's true intentions are left ambiguous and questionable.

It kind of sold like shit. It's a decent sequel, but it didn't sell as much as IV because most of those sales came from that special 3DS promotion back in 2013 when you buy SMT IV and FE:A, you get 30$ or so in credit for the e-shop.

Smirking is always useful for skills like Salvation, Antichthon, additional effects and anything with shit for accuracy. While it also covers weaknesses(and crits) for the purpose of enemies getting press turns, you still take the extra damage and should be covering those weaknesses in the first place.

You should also have ailment resists or immunities if using it since ailments lock smirk from activating.

That said, I get a surprising amount of mileage on it from Krishna, using it to cover his Dark weakness until he can learn Drain Dark, and throwing out Antichthon when I need to lower enemy hit rates(with Ragas taking care of the other two stats). I get better use of Salvation from David, who has more ailment resists to work with.

Unless they can dedicate a corner of the screen to the map and make it readable(about PiP sized), I don't think I'd want to see this on a console. PC, maybe, but that wasn't an option. Maybe if it was done in Virtual Console style, but then the map would take up half the screen.

Pretty much. 5th Kalpa has enemy levels varying too much to be easily abused.

Optionally, there's Ahriman in the burial chamber who's such a high level he's worth 10K exp every time without having to deal with no breaks in between reinforcements, but doing his fight is longer and it's quite a trek to go back and save.

And I also have no idea what happens if you die in a burial chamber fight.

The first set are base stats, and the second set are boosted stats. Like if you equip something that raises your strength by 10, it raises your strength on the second set by 10 and leaves the first alone. The third set does nothing as far as I know.

I'm still trying to figure out what some of the values do myself, actually. There's some 8-bit strings after the value for current level that I think do stuff. One of them is a "has had demon whisper event before" flag, it seems.

I'd be willing to argue that you can get rid of Hades Blast and Phys Pierce and have Smile Charge instead and another skill.

She's awful. She talks down to the majority of the cast and tries to play damage control 24/7 and berates others for not doing the same.

OK, I changed one of my demons's data into what I thought was important in that and had the same problem. Doing it again and checking in-between every change revealed that the "03" byte after the current level value was the problem. I changed it back to what it was before (0E) and it worked again. Try messing with that.

I don't know what that byte is even used for, and now I'd really like to know. I'll try to figure it out.
