Anyone else miss the titans from the first game? I liked choosing my titan type and load out in the first one better than the premade ones in this game. I want my triple thread back.

Not really.
Titans aren't that fast, so their position will stay roughly the same. Pilots can move around faster, but they will stay in the same area they started firing from. You just have to roughly predict where it is safer to be when you're about to activate it.

Tone is significantly worse after the recent patch. Hitboxes on the 40mm make pilots much much harder to hit, you have to properly aim now. Also the salvo core is way weaker in terms of damage.

For some reason they lack the ability to create a game where the meta-game isn't 100% obvious to any shitter at first glance.

Just look at the original Titanfall, within a month the meta was so locked down you rarely saw people in anything other than:

Are you doing so.e retarded comparison of a softball pilot vs smr pilot, or actually comparing overall battlefield effectiveness. In a straight up shootout vs 201/volt, both will lose/trade at best. Both have about the same range vs pilots. SMR has better reload. SMR has unlimited range vs bots/dancing titans. How is softball at farming reapers? I bet the reload makes it not very good. I haven't really used the softball much, but I know that the SMR is better at reaper takedown than thunderbolt, MGL, and coldwar.

Scorch is an excellent pick on maps with narrow corridors, people can dash out but they'll still take a few ticks of damage and will be forced to find a different path.

Unfortunately Tone and Legion are "press LMB to win" tier and are excellent picks for every map and game mode

Scorch is all about being close to mid range, and making players have to choose between taking damage, or staying strapped in a ring of fire with you, preferably, having them being forced to make that choice while on fire and taking shots from you. Scorch is also a great Bounty Hunter titan, since his kit is perfect for killing off grunts and shit, gotta get that blue money.

I'd suggest using Scorched flame shield kit, makes it last a lot longer.

Because the way matchmaking is designed in every single MP team game is based on pure match.
It tries to create balanced teams by mixing and matching people of varying skill and experience.
This is why it's so frequent that say 1-2 good players are matched with trash players so often.
To simplify you could say that 1 player is worth 10 points, while his allies are each worth 2,5 points. Combined they amount to 20 points. The other team could have 2x 3 point players, 2x 4 point value players and 1x 8 point value player. That amounts to 22. The matchmaking system considers this close enough to be balanced so these two teams are matched against eachother.

While its subjective but most of my matches are in the 500/300 ish range. I've had a few very close matches, the worst case matches usually are around 500/200 with around 150 being the worst score I've seen.

Imo I think the best bet is just to have fun irrespective of if you're on the winning or losing team.

There are many viable ones for everything. Some are objectively better than others, some are situational, but I do find it good that there are for example guns that are objectively worse than others. Makes more satisfying to wreck peoples asses with it.
I've been running around with the semiauto pistol, getting killstreaks because its just damn great if you can aim well.

You just got to decide how to commit your energy before the engagement: Do you poke with your primary, take a couple of shots with your burst laser, then duck? Open with burst, float the rest for vortex? Dump all your energy into splitter altfire? I've maintained the opinion that the more rigid Titan Loadouts is a way of being able to balance the Titans more easily since you know that certain elements will only ever be combined with other elements. Respawn doesn't have to worry about how rail gun balances will work with Legion's long/short range mode or Scorch's gas traps because it'll only ever be used on Northstar.
It's not completely balanced now but it makes future balancing way easier than a myriad of interchangeable parts that you have to balance for in every conceivable loadout they'll be used in

The kits also work off each other more often than not.

Vortex shield holds for 4 seconds at max I think. You have to turn it on a half second before the missiles actually make contact with you

It doesn't work the same as you vortexing regular gun fire since the attack is sustained over several seconds, it requires more planning.
