I have the comic and it is one of alan moore's more excellent works.

It's not impossible, with sufficient tech and a good range of RGOs production far outstrips consumption (consumption that pops can afford at least), and then you just have to tactically blob to clean up any shortages like coffee or tropical wood. The toughest part is when your industry gets so large you're maybe exporting a huge amount of liquor but that causes you to import a lot of grain, so you have to shut down factories in order to stop importing all that grain.
I've gotten almost there with Qing->Beiyang, I basically was just short on wool, grain, and coal, and I wasn't interesting in demolishing my liquor industry in order to become self-sufficient.

How do I make politics interesting in my Victoria 2 game?

1. Make sure you have the Secret Ballots reform, without it you will be stuck with a majority party. Your Upper House can either be Based by Population or Two Per State it dosen't matter. Proportional Representation is way better than FPTP because you can actually tell the results and swing it.

How do you guys like to build your front-line armor divisions as a major power (germany/ussr/usa etc) in vanilla HOI3? I've been using 2 MARM + 1 MOT/MECH + 1 SPART + 1 TD as my generic division for supplementing the infantry on the line, but I feel like the +5% combined arms bonus from the SPART doesn't overcome its high softness and poor hard attack; on the other hand, it being a support instead of a frontline brigade means I can fit more divisions into the available frontage.

Looking at Sicily right now, not too excited. A meager 5 provinces (6 with Malta) with 3x4, 5x2 and 6x1 holdings for a total of 28 holdings, which is pretty laughable. The only upside is that they're all coastal so your cities will be raking in the dosh. Egypt has Cairo and Alexandria, each with 7 holdings, and then a decent amount of 5 slotters, two 4s and some god awful ones not worth mentioning. They're also on the silk route, which is great.

As a dutch it's phenomenal and even better then Flanders, but it's the mediocre kingdom that's bothering me. As the emperor of the Free Cities with maxed centralization laws and high stewardship I can personally hold an impressive 14 titles to myself, which makes Sicily less tempting because the most immediate and obvious expansion would be into south Italy which is also very mediocre, though again, it's also all coastal. Ottomans are still easy as shit in VeF. Due to their ideas and initial manpower they can trump the byzantines and control all of anatolia literally 100 years before they historically did so. As in by 1352 you will be bigger than they were in real life in 1452, if you know how to play.

To make it worse... when I continued playing, by 1500 my army was already twice the size of France's and I owned the balkans, anatolia, the levant and half of egypt.

The same applies to MEIOU but I never played more than 10 years because I could max out on speed 2.

Your capital node automatically collects money that's going through it depending on your trade power in it. Every merchant you have steering trade gives you bonus to trade power in your capital node while every collecting merchant reduces your trade power (it's an option for poorfuck countries who don't control any nodes basically). This has really been annoying me too recently, especially when you look at the starting bookmarks and notice just how many tiny states still exist throughout the world in the later centuries.

I've been thinking of getting into modding to change it but I'm not sure if what I want to do is possible. My idea was to apply agressive expansion modifiers based on a nation's size, so that taking provinces from a small nation costs 150% and annexing OPMs is 200% while taking clay from large nations is cheaper at something like 75%. Then on top of that a base increase for all AE, a larger one within the HRE and then a larger one still for non co-belligerents. To balance that out a decrease in the range that AE is spread over so that coalitions happen a lot more but they are more immediate neighbours rather than continent spanning.

Would anyone know if something like this could be done within EU4?
