sorcs can though? crystal magic weapon for me adds 200AR. Thats more than enough to make up for lack of physical stats depending on the weapon and infusion. Obviously a quality weapon + resin will probably do more but its close. Though I prefer my MLGS anyways.

Playing pure Dex is really fun. Chaos Blade is the most fun katana because it encourages you to actually use the R1s since they combo and do a lot of damage and Crow Quills is an even funner weapon because of the cool combos and the nice spacing required to make them work (screw the ones that use it as a crit stick with a shield). I have a character for that that I made similar to a Cainhurst Knight, with those weapons playing the part of the Chikage and the Reiterpallasch. I use Vilheim's chestpiece with Billed Mask.

I hate the "Never do Dex" meme because Dex weapons are usually more fun than STR in these games, just look at the poor movesets of ultra weapons.

Millwood Battle Axe is pretty fun though, so that's a single STR weapon they didn't screw up.

I'm talking about infusions. Dark is about as strong as quality. Crystal is okayish to a certain point and how they should be balanced around but lightning is unironically weaker than blessed most of times.
The thing is, a dark/pyro build is investing about as many stats as quality does for about the same damage on the weapon(number vary, of course) while also getting spells. Even without the rings, they could use utility spells such as almost every regen spell (which don't scale, so they pack as much punch as a 60 fth build) or soulmass only as a stay away from me tool even.
As far as buffs go, the problem is how they're even easier to time out now and how a trade of duel charm for a simple running attack can happen, anyone can spite kite you until it runs out endlessly. DMB is the strongest buff though

The bigger problem I have with arena is how the matchmaking is shit and how there's nothing stopping you from finding something like pic related. I didn't even bother to optimise it, but you get the idea. Sorcs and clerics are starved for levels for pseudo pyromancers which you find non stop can do almost everything quality can with minimal drawbacks.

They really don't, they actually hit very, very hard for a damage weapons. Specially some like CCS which get insanely high damage for what should be a split damage weapon and lose so little damage since no one minmaxes dark defense nor invests into fth to get dark defense, that you might as well be using a quality weapon.
In fact, in the worse situations you'll take at worse 1 more hit to kill someone (or just surge them to death) while lightning might struggle to kill someone with double of the hits.
I mean it, do try out some dark weapons compared to their refined alternatives and you'll see the loss is minimal.

Onyx isn't that bad because pyros can't minmax poise(unless they make a specific build for it) usually, so you can beat them in their own game with another GS

I'm taking my character up to 130 solely to shove 10 extra points into VIT to wear inefficient armor that I like the look of. I'm not sure how I feel about this but I sure don't feel like dropping other stats for it. My absorption goes up by like 1% on average.

You aren't even getting my point about pyros or reading my posts. There's nothing wrong with pyros, or casters in general, the problem is pseudo pyros that have the same spread as them but simply use dark weapons with a side of ocasional surge/regen/hsm or similar utility spells.
They're not pyromancers, but they sure as hell have a similar stat spread but play as a quality build but with spells and shield piercing, and that is definetely a more cancerous build than quality is.

That is a problem too. Its weird, I feel like FP is a better system for early game, but limited casts becomes better lategame. FP in the early game lets you refill and use FP efficient spells extensively, but suffers alter trying to throw nukes around and then depleting your resources for ALL your other spells.
Limited casts is rougher early game since you just likely wont have access to multiple copies of the same spell, but you could then have like 300 Soul Arrow casts late-game. Or 24 Forbidden Suns or something, its great. Once you eliminate the "I might not have enough casts to get through this area" barrier, it becomes much better.
Honestly, a limited cast system with a reliable fill-up system like FP has would be the best. Late game benefits of limited casts and proportional refills, without drawing from the same fuel source for all your spells anymore. That would be the way to go.

Throwing sunlight spears are so damn satisfying. I love the way it crackles and kind of spirals and flickers through the air.

Looks the best when thrown in a dark hallway and it illuminates the area.

I haven't used greatswords since before the patch and I'm way more used to straight swords. I'm not sure if the 1H speed increase made them fast enough to be a good replacement as a "get out of my face" tool.

The spawn locations for Pass are all super close and take like 5 seconds to get to the bonfire area. They're even closer than High Wall or Bridge. There's also more than 2 spots to fight and even enclosed/open areas+the elevator bridge for if people want to do silly cage match/narrow area shit or just fight normally. The discus is so, so, so bad.
This was a webm of me testing it on NG with 60 faith right after the patch dropped. It does damage if they stand in it after it stops travelling to come back, but nobody ever does. Most people can mind their surrounding so itll never hit anyone coming back either, and it certainly isnt punishing enough to make it matter.
Wolnir's is apparently pretty good but Ive never used it myself. Infusing a weapon with lightning is usually pretty good, or making it raw and buffing it. Faith builds dont have their Onyx Blade or MLGS yet though.

I don't know if where you're standing gives you priority, since being summoned takes you anywhere in the game. When I got my concords I was a SL120 waiting in the Kiln as I liked throwing my sign from time to time to fight Soul of Cinder. I got the concords for DMB in 2 or 3 days, but I was playing on PS4 and I have my TV next to my PC so I was just messing around on the internet with the game running next to me so I could see when I got summoned. It's annoying that sometimes you get summoned after the invader died and when that happens you don't get a concord, it's a major disappointment since Darkmoon summons are so rare.

Swordspear I presume? (There's just the DS Spear too which is also very popular so it's important to distinguish).

Basically Gargoyle FS has the longest reach with okay-ish split damage, while DSSS has the highest damage of all spears (even highest purely physical, 440 I believe on a quality build, not including the inherent lightning damage or the additional self-buff damage from the WA) while also being in the class of "longest reaching spears that aren't Gargoyle FS". The only drawback is it requires 18 faith to wield.

My advice would be to use it on a quality build with just enough FAI to meet the requirement, and a black knight shield and thrusting sword of your choice in the offhand. Use the swordspear 1-handed only. The moveset even gets a nice horizontal slash R2 which is useful for roll catches, and with a BK shield you can use the actually useful WA (most spears have shitty charge WA's).

Learn how to punish parry kings with turtlepoke backstabs. Run at them feigning a running R1, either they attack into your shield once or twice and you roll away and repeat, or they try to prediction parry a running R1 and instead you just keep moving at, around, and behind them and do a backstab by holding L1 when you push R1, poking while your guard is still up. It uses a faster animation than a normal R1 which sucks them into the backstab animation faster and is very difficult to escape, at worst you just get a free normal R1 hit on them. If they never parry and keep R1'ing into your shield you can eventually running R1 them, at which point they'll probably try to parry again after that and you can punish them again.

The only thing that can beat this setup used properly is a curved sword, or bleed but simple bleed mechanisms are easy to defeat by keeping blood moss handy. If they unzip the CSS, you dual wield with an offhand estoc so when they roll past your spear to get close you spam the crap out of them with your faster poking weapon. GL HF.
