get stealth camo to drop your detection by a little more

watch range, move into torp range but outside detection range, bear your turn radius in mind plus targets heading, its easily stray into detection if you dont keep eye at these, keep track of your targets movement using the torps aim indicator, try to see if he stays in same course or manouvers, use map and just general situational awareness to predict his future movement

unless you are 100% sure he is sailing straight for mins, drop torps a little ahead and behind too, not just inside the grey zone

I usually switch between narrow and wide spread alot even in same drop, again unless im that sure, for example its a good idea to drop 3 wide spreads and try to spread them so they evenly occupy a large area, this is best done against cruisers

I use high tier captain with concealment exprt so my detection is 5,4km lol, but still same tactics apply

German BBs depends, many of them are driven by experienced players and will exercise the art of WASD.

Also, use your guns. IJN guns have shit handling but can do good damage, the scrnshot I posted is not best example, but other times I accrued 20-30k damage just from shooting + fires in my kamikaze.

Of coruse dont just fire like an idiot, but its nice when say duelling with another DD, or when you are in smoke.

Atago has served me well for 200 battles. I don't see the problem with people receiving a free non-premium clone, since the main strengths for which I bought Atago are still restricted to the premium only. Not a bad first game. Up close the AP has good citadel seeking properties. 3 citadels on a 6 gun salvo is pretty nice results.

HE is fairly lackluster in my opinion though. Even the first few salvos were nothing but bounces with it on a Colorado.

Still, considering my first match in her was a T9, can't complain.

Well, from the IJN line I've only played the animeme Kongo and felt quite disappointed with it. Sure, it has impressive range, but I don't snipe all that much except for some harassment at the very beginning, the accuracy didn't seem much better than that of the germans, and damage output is meh. I've also heard that IJN stock grinds are atrocious.

It just seems like a sidegrade.

Yeah, you get 3k hitpoints more, and one gun more and your guns load a fraction of a second faster, but you lose a bit of detectability and your turn radius gets noticeably larger.

The gain in AA power is easily offset by now meeting t10 carriers more regularly, and they just plain ignore your AA unless you pop barrage. (and if it's all about barrage, Fletcher can do that just fine)

The torpedo range is nice, but at t10 most BBs have learned that you should do that zig-zag thing, so it doesn't really matter if your torps can reach to the horizon or not, 10 or 12 km are perfectly workable.


All in all, it's a sidegrade that gets you some rather slight upgrades in one area (your weapons), some downgrades in a number of other areas, and moves you up a tier which stops you from farming t7 games.

And I bet if I point this out to WG, they'll just nerf Fletcher.

You need to use torpedo acceleration for that sweet 71knt 12km torpedos. Also you can just bow on every single DD you meet and still have 4 guns pointed at their way and the same DPS of the fletcher with those 4 guns.
Other than those situations, not many reasons really, still fun though.
