it's basically a really hard side game. not even necessarily the game itself; all the competition is so dedicated and has been playing for so long in a franchise about legacy skill/experience that it's impossible to catch up without making the game your main focus among others or even your sole focus.

and that's not appealing to a lot of people. especially if there's another fighting game they just really love to play. i wouldn't blame them for not entering tekken tournaments. it's basically wasted money for a game where you aren't putting the full effort that's required to level up. even when it was easy (t6 bob), only very few people picked it up and did well (in the absence of koreans).

The idea of making Hype actually matter is a good one, but making him so dependent on something he never had to worry about before, this late in the game's lifespan when players have been used to playing without it, is gonna be a hard sell.
