I've been struggling to do all major builds to sl 120 so I can play what I want when I want and I have 4 out of the 6 builds done and all I can think of is how bland this game is at the top. Even my caster builds have the stats to wield a decent weapon, and although I try to only cast hitting with spells that feel gratifying to use is a trial in futility, so I eventually always fall back to swinging my fucking weapon which since the patch is almost always a fucking greatsword.

I feel like giving up not because it's monotonous to get these six builds up legit (it is, fucking +2 rings for every one) but it's such a letdown that each build plays pretty much the same at the peak.

Use the slab you got from phase 2.
If she does the combo in phase 3, roll backwards and wait for the final slam she does into the ground. Easy opportunity to attack.
Others is the blackflame and frost jumping attacks. Wait until the AOE is done and attack.

i think the best way to deal with combos is to just roll away from them, not into the attacks. you can roll to the side and some second hits will just miss but it's difficult to do, she's likely to interrupt the combo too. once you're far enough you can just keep walking away and the entire combo will just miss, if you roll into the jump you can even backstab her. if you roll away from the third hits of the combos she's likely to interrupt them and you miss the opportunity to backstab
if you stay very far away from her, she will mostly do ranged attacks and jumps, they're a lot easier to deal with, a good way to avoid the jumps where she spins first is to run towards the point where she takes off and she will always land somewhere behind you, you can also avoid the blackflame jump by just locking on and sprinting around her, but you'll need to roll for the frost one

It's worse than CCS except for the WA. The WA has the same problem the 2scythes have: it's always the same attack animation so it's highly predictable. It's incredibly easy to outspace and punish once you've memorized the WA animation, I can generally hit after the first 2 swings of it and roll out before the last hit of the WA drops, free damage.

It's literally always the same 2-3 part attack animation, just memorize it and you can abuse the fuck out of it with proper timing/spacing. Easy free hits since they're stuck in that animation for a certain period of time.

I learned a long time ago that if you didn't want to deal with getting triggered by some gank squad killing you with CCS's and gesturing like they're any good at the game by winning a 4v1, I just immediately mute and look away from the screen for a few moments until I respawn at the bonfire.

A dex scythe got a stance WA with its R1 form + R2 being more unquie moves than the STR weapons new moves.
A quality leaning dex sword has an almost entirely unique moveset.
A rapier, knowing 2h moves for rapiers are too similar to 1h, instead gets completly unique L1s and a WA whose first part is a ranged attack

The STR weapons are on the level of uniqueness as onyx or sabre. A straight upgrade to most, but not all, weapons in their class, but hardly adds much to the way they're played compared to the rest

"Focus" and not the "way the weapon is used".
Quills is still a rapier, just with extended combos. Scythe is still a scythe and heavily relies on zoning, having only one hyperarmor attack. Claws are still just claws.

Now millwood axe charge completely changes the way the axe is used. HA javelin throw gives a lot of utility to compensate shorter range. And don't get me started on a bow. A single change in weapon art gave them even more character and utility than unique movesets of new dex weapons.

Proper technique is usually done without a shield so two handed would make far more sense. We really need two-handing weapons to change how you use them in a fundamental way to be the norm. Simply adding "transformation" attacks from Bloodborne would make me a lot less apprehensive about actually two-handing thrusting and curved swords and one-handing great and ultragreat weapons.

But you're right, perseverance is fucking sweet. As a spear main it's one of the reasons I love the RH Halberd so much since it's basically the only perseverance spear in the game.

Javelin is so much worse than other spears and its ranged attack can just as well be replaced by spells or even bombs for similar effects. Even for the HA, a lightning spear is better for more damage.
Quakestone and earthseeker are laughlably bad and their WAs do not help is the slightest nor help how they play.
Torch is unique because it's a hammer that doesn't combo R1-R1, the WA's only saving grace being that you can roll, but the startup is so long you'd need to hide somewhere to even cast it.
Bow's WA has good utility, but see the times it's used, the opponent is almost always distracted and you could've replaced it with CSS or vestiges for better damage. Its only niche is getting people to fall from ledges which I'll grant is useful.
The axe only has the dash WA which is instantly invalidated if the opponent has a HA weapon(they always win the trade) and if not, running from it is trivial while the R1s don't always combo. Its use would be to put pressure on someone trying to estus, I guess, but then, you could do the same wasting no FP with a kat.

The scythe's HA works about the same way the axe does, but it beats and combos far more reliably versus non HA weapons, on top of having the R2, a better area denial than torch could ever be.
Valorheart is completely unique and plays unlike any other weapon.
Quills l1s give it bigger mixup and rollcatch potential and the WA can be used as shitty knives for the sake of annoying your opponent.
Claws are literally claws with a one hit kill gimmick that doesn't work often. It has a meh niche, but if the axe is a game changer for the class for you, so are those.
