I guess its not an emulation question, but I just got my hands on an old dreamcast, it has a circle with a 1 in it next to the region code, and I was wondering if anyone knew a good cd burning software. I looked up some how-tos, but I'm not sure what to trust and I want to avoid programs with set up exes.

>Porting Cg shaders to the minimalist GLSL-like subset that BGFX demands is actually quite a pain. BGFX only lets you use a bare minimum of shader features due to the fact that one of its supported platforms is WebGL, which doesn't get you a lot of niceties.

BGFX confirmed for "lowest common denominator" bullshit

I've spent an inordinate amount of time on this ps2 softmodding bullshit. I can use fcmb + burned discs just fine, but I want to play games off of SMB thru ethernet connection because I heard that method plays better than discs (which have been a little fucky for whatever reason like broken cutscenes).

I have an active, primary partition "PS2SMB" made and I've put games on it using both the USBUTIL and USBExtreme methods. I use a crossover cable to connect my PC and PS2. I've tried various IP numbers for Open PS2 Loader.

Fucking thing still either wont connect or is connected but won't detect any goddamn games on my PS2SMB partition. This is stupid. I've tried following several tutorial videos so they must be leaving a lot of shit out if what I'm doing isn't working.
>>
>>159103859
You need to manually assign a local IP to your PS2 in yoand make sure it's a public share and you're using an ethernet cable straight from your PC to your PS2, some switches break connection.

>>
>>159105147
Well i was in the middle of using HDLoader, and while that didnt work, OPL now detects my games on the partition. I have a faint idea of what caused this, and it's so fucking stupid. The tutorial video I followed literally said otherwise.

Funny how the same guys who are all busily stealing RA's features are at the same time lambasting it for this or that reason (New Retro Arcade being the latest bullshit).

MAME/MESS dudes are a bunch of losers with no skills who themselves are the biggest plagiarists and thieves around, stealing this or that from random emulator X or Y and incorporating it back into their badly performing jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none huge mess of an emulator.
>>

Need a little help. I used to emulate SNES and PSX about a decade ago all the time and was very 'in the scene'. I have since just been playing current gen games and am starting to look at emulating Wii/GCN with Dolphin.

My question is, are all game downloads just massive zip part link lists? I really just want one download link for a full game, it shouldn't be hard to provide. Where do I find decent places to get these games?

Shitty gif quality aside why do text boxes affect the shader like that? It's way more blurry than it should be normally but sharpens whenever you talk to someone. This is the only game I've ever seen anything like that happen.

Get a superior fat PS2 and install FHDB.

Ethernet is hot garbage when you realize it's capped around 1-2MB/s, far worse than basic disc read speeds.

Trust me, HDD is worth your time. I can effectively use my PS2 with no memory cards now (still nice to have) due to FHDB booting from the drive and OPL's virtual MCs.

I know I can use hotkeys in PCSX2 because I did several years ago, but I don't remember how.

A 1050ti is a bit over a 770 and over a 960 so no it's not overkill unless you only care about native or 2x res also The price performance ratio is in favor of the 1050 right now (on the Nvidia side of things obviously but PS2 emulation and AMD aren't a thing) unless you can find a 960 for really fucking cheap but then in a mini ITX case it pays to have something that uses less power so a 1050 is pretty much the better choice all around.

I'm using the standalone. Too arsed to use Retroarch despite wanting to learn how to use it.

Should also mention I was recording with OBS, and even with that shut off, it's still having the same problem in the same spot. Did a hard reboot and the result is the same. Turned down the graphics settings to PSP like mode and same result. I'm having little trouble with other games.

Will probably use a previous version since I had no issue with it before.

But for some reason my CHDs don't work.
They work fine with Reicast on Android (and on the Retroarch build but that's too slow for my atom pc), and they work with Demul (demul is too slow as well).
Any reason why NullDC won't launch them? I got the latest version of nullDC and it says it supports them.

>update mesa
>Dolphin's Vulkan backend now works with open-source drivers on my RX460

I think it's because of these two commits added just yesterday.

https://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/?id=73592b92844af3c1298ef5e66e3055793443546d
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/?id=e7b9c5eb74619dbda3f24928196ab8c8d9408c0b

Fixed a major issue I was having with Dolphin using the normal OpenGL backend. Works perfectly aside from noticing one graphical glitch in a game (battlefield background missing in melee), and my entire system irreparably freezes up forcing me to reboot sometimes. It seems to happen randomly after I play some gamea long enough, and I've found one method of loading up a certain level of a game that will freeze my system every single time.

93 edition probably is a version that predates public release

(Saturns ads) is self explanatory replaces the billboard in race to those of the Saturn version)

Special Edition might just an official later revision of the game

Turbo is just a romhack that makes the game faster and adds monster truck mode (just the regular cars with oversized wheel models)

To the Maxx is another hack that adds a few gameplay elements, modes, camera view and a ghost function

GTX 2004 adds car upgrades.

So, given how some PSX titles were kinda obscure, and hard to find due to that, I found some ROMs which, instead of multiple .bin files, had a single .img file that had all the tracks, or at least that's what the .cue linked to it said. My question is: could there be an issue with that? The games seemed to run fine, but only for the brief time in which I tested them.

I knew that. MPC was a lot better a product than PCSX2. It seemed to Just Werk no matter what file I fed it although that likely would not be the case now with cutting edge tech passing it by due to it no longer being updated. But for back then it was like that. Even its fork MPC-HC seems less "Just Werky" although again that is probably due to the increase in complexity and feature sets expected of players now. I do recall there were some things that were emerging like heavily animated subs that MPC couldn't do (it just displayed them normally) by the end.

I distinctly recall Angrylion coding correct texture mapping behavior for Mischief Makers in GLideN64. He also assisted with Gonetz fixing colour sign-extend behavior which makes the Zelda intro look wrong on most plugins.

My bad, don't know how I messed that up. Yeah it was the Shield Tablet that got the K1.

Apparently the Switch devkits use X1s but we don't know if the final hardware is some custom X1 thing or a variant of X2. Given the heavy concept overlap between the Shield line and the Switch it makes me wonder if Nvidia's Nintendo deal is actually part of the same attempt to break into home console/entertainment as the Shields. why is it when a core in retroarch crashes the whole program crashes rather than just going back to the menu? is it bad design?
>>
>>159339812
Because SP has no idea of proper usability principles. He should just have it go back to the main RA menu with a pop up saying "BIOS is wrong lololol"
>>
>>159339812

Depends what you mean by "crash".

If you mean a fatal error caught by the core then it's poor design, there's no way for the core to exit cleanly, it has to exit the program or keep running while doing nothing.

If you mean a hard crash like a segfault or something like that then it's because there's no sandboxing, the core runs in the same process as the frontend. That's good for performance but it doesn't leave any room for recovering from that sort of stuff.

I guess you could make it so RA forks when it starts a core and then communicate through a socket or something like that but it would complicate the architecture significantly, especially if hardware rendering is involved.

>>
>>159342165

People sure do have high expectations for SP for some reason. Very few coders are also UI experts.
>>
>>159346449

Does the shutdown environment turn off the core without shutting down RA? If so that's nice, although I feel like there should just be a boolean return value to retro_run that would return "false" when the core is done running.

Also there's still no user-friendly way to display an error message for the user. It's either in the logs or you have to display it on the screen but since you can only have one message on the screen at any given time it's pretty limited.
>>
>>159346972
Yet somehow every stand alone emu has a UI designer or had one at some point in its development to throw one together. We thus tend to assume they just kind of grow on trees and are a given. Oh right the only reason why RA's UI is shit is because SP insists on building his own from scratch rather than just throwing in a dependency to have a prebuilt one he can just throw options on.

Perhaps because they're both Russian :) . I suppose I kinda forgot that Angrylion sometimes helps Gonetz. However, there's still no RSP expert helping out.

I wouldn't pin my hopes on any m64p dev lol.. Although I do appreciate his efforts, despite the fact that HLEing the fmv's aren't too important. I think HLEing factor 5 games or even WDC would be more worthwhile. T3DEX would be nice too, but I don't expect anyone to go out of their way to implement that.

GLideN64 would be better if every active dev liked the plugin... Too bad different devs are interested in different video plugins. Unless Gonetz starts collaborating with more devs, I don't think GLideN64 will ever be great.
>>
>>159394309
>I wouldn't pin my hopes on any m64p dev lol.. Although I do appreciate his efforts, despite the fact that HLEing the fmv's aren't too important.
He HLEd the game's background rendering ucode. Which is far more useful. Glide64 uses a shitload of hacks to draw the backgrounds.
>I think HLEing factor 5 games or even WDC would be more worthwhile. T3DEX would be nice too, but I don't expect anyone to go out of their way to implement that.
I'd settle for someone figuring out how Turok Engine games render dynamic lights. Gonetz has no idea.
>GLideN64 would be better if every active dev liked the plugin...
The situation isn't helped by developers who can't see past "this plugin won't work on a potato". I mean, some of the "top" N64 devs are people who can't even use Glide64 because it's to demanding on their shit PCs. They use fucking Jabo's Video, and then claim that they can't really any major problems with it.
>>
>>159394309
>Unless Gonetz starts collaborating with more devs, I don't think GLideN64 will ever be great.
The GLupeN64 chap is doing some good work. And of course Angrylion has provided crucial advice. Then there's another chap named standard-two-simplex, who has been working on improving the plugin's texture handling, since that is one of its biggest weaknesses currently.
>>
I don't get this supposed competition between PARALLEL and GLideN64. They're very different beasts. One is trying to basically be fast and accurate, while the other is trying to be very fast, a bit less accurate, but "pretty". They serve different purposes. They both help advance N64 emulation by bringing new understanding of how the N64 itself works.
>>

What's so special about GLupeN64 other than the fact that it now allows you to use GLideN64 with frankenmupen?

>>159394702
>He HLEd the game's background rendering ucode. Which is far more useful.
Oh ok, I guess that is useful.

>I'd settle for someone figuring out how Turok Engine games render dynamic lights. Gonetz has no idea.
Turok was a fun game. I wouldn't be surprised at all if one of the RSP experts would take interest in fixing HLE in those games, if there was a good HLE plugin that could run well on toasters.

>They use fucking Jabo's Video, and then claim that they can't really any major problems with it.
Even Jabo's has performance issues in some games like Dark Rift. Its framebuffer emulation is very slow, except for the hacks in games like Mario Kart and 1080 Snowboarding.

>The situation isn't helped by developers who can't see past "this plugin won't work on a potato".
If you're talking about PJ64 devs, aren't they looking into speeding up Glide64?

>>159396058
>What's so special about GLupeN64 other than the fact that it now allows you to use GLideN64 with frankenmupen?
The dev has been working on improving the plugin, and he's been helpfully backporting key improvements to GLideN64, and discussing stuff with Gonetz.
https://github.com/loganmc10/GLupeN64/commits/master

>Turok was a fun game. I wouldn't be surprised at all if one of the RSP experts would take interest in fixing HLE in those games, if there was a good HLE plugin that could run well on toasters.
Figuring out the lighting ucode would fix Turok 2, Turok 3, South Park, and Armorines. I mean, it's not world changing stuff, but it's a definite feather in someone's cap. Conker and Majora's Mask had undocumented lighting ucodes that were reverse engineered. The Majora's Mask one seems a bit faulty, though.

>If you're talking about PJ64 devs, aren't they looking into speeding up Glide64?

It's a mess. Zilmar is obsessed with the idea that performance should always trump accuracy. One of his bright ideas is that the framebuffer hack behavior from Jabo's plugin should be added to a modern plugin and then every single game should have a series of per-game hacks to bypass framebuffer to RAM copies.

Gonetz would never let that shit fly in GLideN64. A set of per game hacks for every single N64 game that does frame buffer copies is bullshit. He's made huge accuracy improvements over other N64 hardware plugins by refusing to per-game hack around certain issues and finding a correct solution that fixes a wide range of games.

Even PCSX2 isn't that bad. The little Linux-lover doing PCSX2 graphics tried to adopt general solutions where possible. "Let's just per game hack everything" is a great way to fuck up your emulator long-term.
>>
>>159396756
>Zilmar is obsessed with the idea that performance should always trump accuracy.
I'd rather have an inaccurate emulator that runs full speed than vice versa.

>One of his bright ideas is that the framebuffer hack behavior from Jabo's plugin should be added to a modern plugin and then every single game should have a series of per-game hacks to bypass framebuffer to RAM copies.
Why is this a problem?

>Gonetz would never let that shit fly in GLideN64.
There are plenty of good things Gonetz won't bother doing, such as fixing LLE triangles.

>He's made huge accuracy improvements over other N64 hardware plugins by refusing to per-game hack around certain issues and finding a correct solution that fixes a wide range of games.
He still uses per-game hacks for games like Winback.

>A set of per game hacks for every single N64 game that does frame buffer copies is bullshit.
How's that any worse than not doing any framebuffer emulation at all? People suggest simply turning off framebuffer emulation if you need better performance, yet per-game hacks would be a nice solution for people who need the performance and want to see the framebuffer effects.
As long as the option to do "accurate" framebuffer emulation is still available, I don't see any harm in this.

>Figuring out the lighting ucode would fix Turok 2, Turok 3, South Park, and Armorines.
Wow I didn't know South Park used the same type of Gfx ucode. Kinda interestin i guess. If only there was a good HLE plugin than ran full speed on potatos..
>>
>>159397853
>He still uses per-game hacks for games like Winback.
Exception to the rule. Look at Pilotwings. That's a case of actual accuracy improvements improving multiple games. His accuracy improvements for Zelda have fixed Paper Mario. Stuff like that.

>How's that any worse than not doing any framebuffer emulation at all? People suggest simply turning off framebuffer emulation if you need better performance
GLideN64 is already very fast.

> yet per-game hacks would be a nice solution for people who need the performance and want to see the framebuffer effects.
No, no. Zilmar's idea is that using per-game hacks for every game should be the go-to solution. Zilmar's a guy who won't change the default plugin from Jabo's yet because people with shit PCs can't run anything better.

GLideN64 is not exactly a slow plugin.
>>
>>159398347
>No, no. Zilmar's idea is that using per-game hacks for every game should be the go-to solution.
I highly doubt Zilmar would delete the current framebuffer code and replace it all with per-game hacks. Even Jabo left the option there for users to decide.

>Zilmar's a guy who won't change the default plugin from Jabo's yet because people with shit PCs can't run anything better.
From what I understand, the problem is either OpenGL having terrible support or the code is poorly written. People say that they got better performance when using the D3D wrapper for Glide.

>GLideN64 is already very fast.
Even Gonetz has said that it's slower than Glide64. Unless you just meant the frame buffer emulation part? I can admit he did a good job with framebuffer emulation. Not sure if it can be sped up further without using per-game optimizations.

>GLideN64 is not exactly a slow plugin.
I'm pretty sure it's still extremely slow in games like Nintama Rantarou.

Byuu is not the cause, it's just that making a very accurate emulator even for an old console requires a powerful CPU. 10 years ago you couldn't hope to have a very accurate emulator for anything past the NES if you wanted to run on the average computer.

Now that we have the power available it's easier to focus on accuracy rather than performance.

Yahweasel/GregorR improved the netplay subsystem recently.

Netplay is extremely hard to get right in emulators, since synchronization is a huge issue.

MMOs have dogshit netcode.

GCDs are a thing simply to give the servers a fuckhuge window(1 whole second usually) in which to receive your input and make sure it's correct before actually doing anything.

Most other games use systems that are actually pretty much the same thing as RA with its real time rewind, except for them it's not so incredibly taxing on the CPU, which makes it infeasible for emulators like PCSX2.

Ok, that doesn't work at all. I already have 3 monitors, all different sizes (1024, 768, 1080) and then I'd have to add the phone at number 4, so I can't just extend windows. So I need a way to split the screens to keep one at my first monitor and the bottom one to the phone/4th monitor, both in separated windows. I can actually do that with NTR Viewer (a stream shit fro the N3DS) but I wouldn't win those 1080p textures and shit. Also, why is the touchscreen bigger?

Also that JoyToKey program works fine.
>>
>>159574978
>I already have 3 monitors, all different sizes (1024, 768, 1080)
Multimonitor set up was really made for richfags, not poorfags. If you're a poorfag (like me) then just have one monitor.
>>
>>159574978
I was going to make a custom build with the exact dimensions set for your setup, but if you have to have the windows split up then you'll have to wait for someone else to add that to citra.
>>
>>159575452
The 1280x1024 monitor was mine from like 10 years ago, the 1366x768 was a gift, only the 1920x1080 was actually bought not a long time ago.

>>159575547
You mean something that will make them to be separated with just one windows? That could make the work too. from left to right it is the 1024, 1080 and 768 on vertical and then the phone that has a 1080 screen, thought I could set it to a lower resolution.

Actually, I want to be ready to play Dragon Quest VIII on 1080p fullscreen and then stuck the bottom screen away from the main screen, and if I could use the phone it would be perfect. I can play all othe games on my N3DS just fine.
>>

>The 1280x1024 monitor was mine from like 10 years ago, the 1366x768 was a gift, only the 1920x1080 was actually bought not a long time ago.
That's what I mean. A richfag buys 3 1080p monitors at once for a multimonitor set up. He doesn't use old monitors to make it work.
>>
>>159576262
There is no need for multiple 1080p monitors. Is more important to have the stuff on three separated monitors. Actually, if you have multiple 4k monitors it would be more difficoult to focus on stuff. Also, some pages are optimized for any of those three sizes so I'm always ready.
>>
>>159576654
The situation isn't working out well for you right now though. Because richfags who develop software like Citra make their features for other richfags, not people with multiple sized monitors.

Partially related but why does it seem like emudevs are almost always richfags except perhaps Gabest? They always fap over support for the highest end hardware they can use and are quick to end support for things which help people on shit hardware
>>
>>159576089
Eh that's kinda a mess.
Here's a build that you swap screens with a hotkey (default is Ctrl+Tab), so you can set it Single screen layout and then set joy2key to the hotkey so you can flip between the screens with your controller.

That line at the top of the window in PCSX2 will only show the game's native res ever I think.

Also there are plenty of games that just look like shit whether uprezzed or not.

Try setting it to 3x internal res rather than using custom res for 1080p
>>
>>159586902
Make sure youre not using software mode (hit F9 in-game to switch).
And update to the latest dev build. The window use to show the game's native resolution, but they changed to show the current rendering resolution. So if you are using hardware mode, and it is showing the native resolution, then you're using an old build.

Some games have filters on them that make them blurry. What you can try is go into the hacks menu and start setting skipdraw to first 1, then say 4, then say 8 and see if the blurriness is removed. Then scale it back to the lowest number that still removes the blurriness. Watch out because skipdraw will cause graphical defects if it's high enough. Basically it skips drawing filters.

This is what happens with a skipdraw of say 12 on Xenosaga II. Not good.

If skipdraw doesn't work and it really is uprezzing then there may not be anything you can do, or ask on the PCSX2 forums to see if there is some other odd setting that game needs
>>

>Is there any way to drop the general bluriness?
PS2force480p can help sometimes, but make sure you backup your .iso beforehand as the modifications aren't reversible, also if the game relies on CRC hacks you're SOL.

In terms of accuracy, sure, though ParLLEl isn't perfect itself. (Conker's Bad Fur Day and Goldeneye acted weird when I tried them out in it.) GLideN64 is really the best overall N64 video plugin. It's a best-of-both-worlds scenario, being high accuracy while still maintaining the slick, sharp (if not accurate to the N64's actual output) image of HLE plugins. Being able to run it in native res blown up to a large window is a nice touch, too. Makes 2D games like Yoshi's Story look great.

Not him but skipdraw generally is a last ditch effort, it's always gonna break something unless you're lucky enough for the blur to be gone with skipdraw 1 or something.

On the other hand one thing most people don't toy with near enough is TC offset; you can get pretty good results on upscaling artifacts if you're patient enough, although like skipdraw you generally end up having to compromise between whatever you care less being broken.

>However, since version 2.0.0, ePSXe has been deliberately targeting these tests to boost its reputation (as evident by an ePSXe developer updating this page the moment ePSXe 2.0.0 released). We don't really know that though, it would be hard to find proof that they added test-specific hacks to boost their scores. But hey, closed source is great!

What we know for sure however is that those tests (also closed source btw) have very low coverage, it's mostly CPU and GPU IIRC. I wouldn't be surprised if mednafen was more accurate on other subsystems (DMA, CD, SPU, maybe MDEC and others). Of course I'm pulling that out of my ass, we'd have to write tests to make sure of that.

>Code refactoring is the process of restructuring existing computer code—changing the factoring—without changing its external behaviour. Refactoring improves nonfunctional attributes of the software. Advantages include improved code readability and reduced complexity; these can improve source-code maintainability and create a more expressive internal architecture or object model to improve extensibility.

I sure am curious about what ~19yo Comp Sci students have to say on the subject.

But to answer your question it's not refactoring, refactoring means changing the structure of the program, for instance in order to remove duplicated code. When you refactor you end up with code that should be functionally equivalent but simpler to maintain.

This is just typo and style correction.

Yeah and you revert it or fix what you broke rather than just removing what you broke until you get around to it but this is RA so anything revolving around it is always perfect.

Squarepushers cock must taste real good if you people keep sucking it so hard.
>>
>>159674321
Stable versions generally have bugs too, they're just known bugs

>>159674512

Reverting was not an option since the menu input changes were large. Confirm on exit was a hack according to its author and so he decided to remove it until he could implement it better in a non-hackish way.

You seem a bit obsessed with Squarepusher to be honest, since that's not even his code we're talking about.
>>
>>159675189
