How do I play the Ekko vs Irelia top matchup?

It's funny because Irelia actually used to be my most played, and I've matched Ekko several times. But it's so damn hard to do the opposite. I'm an awesome Irelia player, but an alright-great Ekko at most.

I've tried the following:
>Tabi/Sheen > Trinity > Tanky
She goes a similar build but her damage output is higher.

>Zhonya + AP oriented
Good damage, but paper. Can't match her sustain.

I'm not looking on advice on how to farm, I can farm vs her. I just can never engage her, which is a bit annoying. Her stun is obviously easier to land if I engage and then she'll just step out of mine and Q to me if I try to run.

I guess I'm mostly just looking for the right build path here. I feel like at all stages of the game she counters me 1v1.

Because she does. If you can't kill Irelia early the best you can do is turn it into a farm lane. Irelia's an absolute cunt to fight once she gets going unless you have some way to negate/slow autos or just outright burst the bitch.

I learned this after climbing to plat and smurfing in silver for fun.

There's playing for objectives, and then there's playing for KDA. A lot of games I've been shut down in lane but I farmed so well and always kept the pressure that my opponent couldn't roam without missing CS or me taking objectives.

Of course, your team needs to have brains as well.

I do know how to play her though, I had one of the highest win rates with her before I stopped playing for about 6 months hovering at around 75%.

She is quite literally defenseless against anybody that has some range/the ability to kite.

I could have 8 kills by 10 minutes and a 0 kill ezreal/vel'koz would still be able to kite me to death for eternity.

Of course though, if the ones that can kite me die I usually clean up the rest, and I make it a point to tell my team to get rid of the problem targets that I can't realistically get to, but nobody ever listens so my huge lead usually goes to shit.

The herald is ridiculously tanky and takes longer to clear even than baron but it periodically opens its eye which lets you do true damage if you auto attack its back.

Even though I enjoy Morde's current abilities, I wouldn't say that I'll hate Riot for changing him since I gotta admit, he does need some changes, even a little bit. That and I have high hopes for the rework team. They reworked champs like Poppy, Sion, and Yorick and I gotta say, they did a pretty good job. As long as his abilities goes with his theme, I ain't complaining.

I'll tell you something I recently realized this season as a laner. It doesn't matter if I get ganked and killed in my lane, if I'm on a champion I'm much more comfortable and experienced in the matchup than my opponent I will always outpressure him. If left alone I will straight up solo kill him and dive him under turret while building a cs lead. If I'm VERY VERY comfortable I could take a 2v1 or 3v2 against their jungler.

The inverse is also true. If my opponent is just much more knowledgeable of the matchup then he's going to have the pressure advantage over me, he's probably going to solo kill me and I'll feed like a bronze. At best the most I could do is damage control and stall out the lane as long as I can. If you come up here even if I get the kill he'd probably just come right back here and outtrade me again.

Ganking an experienced player, even if you got a clean kill, mildly inconveniences them at best. You have to decide if showing on one side of the map is worth whatever shenanigans your opposite can create somewhere else. You have to make that gank snowball into a tower or a dragon or a jungle invade or potential buff steal. If all you get is a flash or an ult you just delay their timings. They have the potential to stall that time out if your laner isn't as knowledgeable of the matchup. Your gank just ended up buying time for a player that potentially didn't know how to make full use of said time.

If you want to go full autist you can check players match history while loading into a game. If you see your 15 games Gnar spam pinging for a gank on the 750 games Kennan it's up to you to decide if that's worth it. Chances are that Kennan's going to find a way to stay relevant all throughout the game and that Gnar is as dead as shit. It's up to Gnar to realize he can't win this and he must instead fall back, take a defensive position where Kennan can't aggress on him and damage control.

It's gonna be hard to not disappoint. Every VGU has completely changed the champ. All their skills go except maybe 1 that just gets it's numbers changed. Sion kept his exploding shield, Poppy kept her charge, Taric kept his passive. Yorick I think is an exception unless you count his ghoul summoning but it's a stretch.
The most I can hope for is them keeping his ult and passive since they're the most iconic to him that didn't stop them in the other reworks tho. I guess the least I can ask for is no fucking gimmicks. They'll prob make him the juggernaut they always wanted him to be which might mean toning down his damage in exchange for tankiness and skills that scale on HP and resists. I'll miss blowing up people and getting easy ghosts.
