>Yes, because being able to supply the same luxury to more than 4 cities would be bad, because?

It's just a balance thing. It's a fine design choice if the game is balanced around it, and in this case the game is balanced around it. Sometimes you'll have to sacrifice a city's district to make it an entertainment district, is the point. It's supposed to make you adapt more and not just build the same districts all the time

Mildly. Just leave her be and accept that your research/resource space stations for that star are going to die. It'll just fuck off somewhere eventually and you can rebuild.

6
>>
>>158905609
about 10k fleet strength is enough to bring it down
bringing it down gives a permanent boost to energy credits and energy weapon damage

not the best reward (that's the vault, if you ever see the vault OPEN THAT SUCKER, it has an entire new tier of power generators and shields) but not the worst either

if you're gonna pirate it, civ5 ai is still retarded but it's not nearly as bad
>>
>>158905995
10k may be lowballing it but 15k is certainly sufficient if you're good at building ships

for all stellaris players

the Prethoryn Scourge is bugged: it doesn't generate armies anymore which causes it to piss off after 3 years and not conquer anything

to fix this go to events: crisis.1 and remove all the (#)'s before the 'armies' section of event crisis.207 (its near the bottom of the txt)

if you have the scourge in your current game and its been pissing off for a while this may not be sufficient so copy the event, delete everything but the armies section and rename its event tag to something else (I used crisis.209)
then ingame switch to the scourge using tags and spam that new event a dozen times until they once again have a respectable army

Spend those energy credits and terraform every fucking planet in your territory and near it. Your biggest issue definitely seems to be research; less then 100 each by 2400s? You must be doing something wrong.

In my game I've got something like 40 perfect Alpine planets in a space maybe twice as big as yours, which honestly still isn't that large. With the exception of conquered planets and annexed pre-FTL species, all my pops are happy little Alpine babies.
Lots of technology + lots of planets (lots of lv6 space ports) = a fuck huge power fleet.
>>
>>158909180

island cities need a buff. more building need to go in the city center: there's no reason that markets, workshops, libraries, and amphitheaters need to be in their own district.

Of course it's easier. Competition for islands is nonexistent. Meanwhile continents are covered in proverbial tripwire of every other civ. Island settles just result in that fuckoff city noone but the owner cares about. We need buff to coastal cities/resources sure, since rightnow they are hillariously awful. But the whole "I will build a metropolis under that palm tree is nonsense. And no picture of a modern city doesn't convince me otherwise, because realism, while important part of setting, is utterly unrelated to how cities work in civ, any version there of.

hitler's long term legacy was

1 the permanent destruction of Germany's position as a military power
2 the dissolution of the German nation into 2 puppet regimes
3 the loss of the Prussian territories to various nations
4 the destruction of several historically significant cities, buildings and artworks
5 permanently tainting the view on germany and the german people in the global culture
6 loss of scientific relevance through 2 separate brain drains to the united states

Your play will depend on your ethos honestly. My current game I made a bunch of pacifist xenophiles and everyone around me was willingly sucking my dick within a year of meeting me and I managed to form a federation in the first 25 years. Expansion was accordingly easy since I could go wherever I wanted in my quadrant of the galaxy without fear of anything bad ever happening. As say, collectivist spiritualists however just smashing people in your way and purging their conflicted heretical peoples is a much better way of getting your way.

A good thing to do early on is to claim potential colony sites with frontier outposts and put heavy focus on your infrastructure, don't settle till your homeworld is almost full and built up and try and have 3 good planets spotted out and claimed with outposts and you can usually slingshot from there into a pretty good spot.

Also your tech is absolutely trash. If you really need tech it doesn't hurt to make a dedicated science planet and just stuff it with labs with an orbiting science ship boosting it.

It's okay after the expansion. Some of the diplomacy changes they made are fantastic, and some of them are retarded. The AI kind of spams you with shit, but they also now have respect and fear that will change based on factors. So the AI is more pleasant to play with.

Being able to combine affinities is great. Now you can go supremacy purity, or suprem harmony, which is great.

New factions is nice.

The ocean changes are cool. Also being able to build ocean cities is neat.

The artifact thing is fun honestly. Finding and reading about alien, super ancient alien, or human artifacts is neat, and combining them into unique buildings.

I am mostly playing it because I put 60 hours in 6 and am burnt out, and I love future stuff. I don't know what else to say really. When I first got it ages ago I only put 20 hours into it, but now I'm really enjoying it. I guess civ 5 and 6 made me sort of give up on the whole being bummed about "what civ could be" and I just enjoy the game sin the series more.

Aftermath_of_King_Kongo's_War.png
2MB, 1366x768px
So, King Kongo attacked my colonies on his continent thinking they would be easy pickings, completely neglecting the battleships I had parked an island away as well as my GDP allowing my to spit out an army at demand. Admittedly, the main thing that saved me from any damage to my infrastructure was Zanzibar deciding to suddenly become my client and bravely send their spearmen as fodder for his cavalry and musketmen as I got the battleships into position.

Using this opportunity, I liberated Sweden and Switzerland (or at least their CS incarnations), and devised a set off RoE to incapacitate and nab cities without getting any warmonger points. It's fairly simple:

1. Disable the defenses of every city via artillery or battleship bombardment
2. Pillage all luxury resources to get amenities down
3. Park artillery or another ranged attacker next to a city and shoot at it every turn to keep it stunlocked - this also gives you free experience!

There were twists and turns: Zanzibar briefly defected to the other side until I threw some envoys their way and they quit the war entierly (taking with them their upgraded units - a thank you would have been nice), Canada joined the war for some reason, and In the end, King Kongo was unable to support most of his cities so he gave them up as (including Broadway: I was wondering who completed that before me, ya cheeky cunt) part of the peace treaty, while America was hailed as a true hero and managed to actually earn praise for its conduct from other civs.

Also, those German units were about to take the opportunity to nab those Kongenese cities before they were transferred to me: nobody likes King Kongo, and now I know why.

One other intersting thing I found is that units do stack: when assaulting encampments, which was a boon when I needed to send eight Rough Riders to take one out.

Eh Wonders are easier to build in 6 because how shit they are compared to districts. That doesn't sound like a ringing endorsment for china, but hear me out.

There is a set of decent early game wonders:
Stonehendge, Oracle, Colliseum, Petra, Pyramids a couple others I can't be bothered to look up. But AI isn't as eager to build them as before and in MP a lot of people avoid them too.
Why? Because no refunds in the game about the wonders of production, makes them all a fool's bet. Not so for china - if your start isn't utter garbage, you can easly get most of them. Just have to rush the +15% civic. And you are set.

>>

What did you find complicated in Alpha Centauri that you found too dense to get into, being "casual"?

Again, I'm just genuinely curious.

Was it mostly the old presentation, or was there something else in the mechanics that threw you for a loop, or what?
>>
>>158914495
Well, grapix are something I enjoy, mostly because the civ series are about seeing my land develop. BE gives me double this because I get to watch my units transform into something radically different. My cities too. Rising tide lets me see my leader transform as well so that's nice.

I don't remember exactly what in AC stumped me. I think it was something with how the terrain worked. Or units in general. It wasn't like modern civ games, IIRC, where you move a unit and colonize. I'd have to play it again, but there was just something about it that threw me off and I didn't bother.
>>
>>158914326
germany has some of the best industry with their unique district, because it unlocks a shitload earlier than the normal industrial district, costs less, doesn't take up a district slot, and also gets bonus production on commercial district adjacency. Plus, they get an extra district regardless of population. This lets you snowball in the early game, even with a few cities, since each one can get a holy site/encampment/or campus in the early game regardless of pop, as well as a hanza pretty soon after.
>>
>>158914326
It's the strongest nation production wise if you can keep your main cities within a 6 tiles of each other.

>>
>>158914326
Hansa gets +2 from being adjacent to a commercial zone and +1 from two other adjacent districts. So if you pack in your Hansa's and Commercial hubs in a tight ball, the Hansa's can all get like +6 or more production. Throw a bunch of factories in there and you have an instant industrial powerhouse.
>>
>>158914830
unique districts dont take up a district slot iirc
>>
>>158914816
And that's how you do it. Keep populations low, around 4 or so in the throwaway cities you only got for those additional trader slots, run a merchant republic and circular trade the shit out of everything.

Warning - I really like sots.
Moo/Galciv can be safely ignored.
Moo 2 and Galciv 2 are about on the level. Moo wins out by having interactive combat, except when you get tired of it. Galciv wins out by being more modern. Pick and chose. Sots doesn't directly compare well with other 4x because it has unusual focus - wars. This means simcity micro of your planets is not a thing. This means that every star is simplified down to 1 planet. It also has a 3d map. But combat/tech race aspects of it are outstanding. Unless, again, you happen to hate it's combat, than you can safely skip it.

Speaking of namelists, I desperately need the ability to edit them in-game. It's fucking terrible when I spend all this time giving my fleets cool names, then I have to meld them together into a deathball for some reason, and when I split them back up again they're all called "Nth Extrasolar Fleet".
AND ANOTHER THING. Admirals are bugged. When I dplit a fleet into two, half the time the same admiral ends up cloned and leading both of them.

Okay, so it looks like it's going to happen a pretty decent distance away from my borders, hopefully that means I can safely ignore it. That being said, I'm allied with the pink Dabulan Sovereign Suns so I might be pulled into what ever this is anyway?

Civ 6 is a good game but the AI is possibly the worst I've ever seen in a strategy game and it needs a lot of number tweaking.
I already like it a lot more than 5 but I wouldn't say it's even better than that yet. Can't wait to see how it is after 6-12 months of patching, though.

Guys, I want to pirate Stellaris to try it out.

I see on TPB there's the Codex release and a patch for 1.31 of Codex's release, but also a repack by a guy named xatab that claims to be based on Codex's release and that is already upgraded to 1.31, but it has no comments on the upload and the guy isn't a VIP nor does he have the Trusted icon

Anyone here downloaded that version? Or did you use CODEX's? Or did you pirate it from somewhere else? (If so, where?

no, you still chop, but produce builders, then with builders on a wonder you switch production for each builders wonder, that way you will be building multiple wonders at once, so for one chop you get a builder, and that does most of one wonder once you have pyramid.

it's why aztecs are so OP, because they bypass the base production cost increase mechanic by cycling district building with captured (unproduced) builders, so they have nothing stop them go tall AND wide

I'm not sure if you guys can help me out, but I've been watching Let's plays of both Stellaris and Distant Worlds: Universe for a while now, without spoiling the endgame. While Stellaris is prettier and still in development, DW is more complex and has completed its full development cycle.
So far both games look similar, DW:U being a little bit more complex than Stellaris, and I haven't seem much of a difference between two playthroughs with different empires (except for storyline victory conditions in DW but still won't change much)

You start your empire, build your population and navy to expand, meet new aliens and fight against them for supremacy over the galaxy. While in both games the ship customization looks pretty interesting, I haven't seen how culture, politics or science can grant a victory as they do in Civ.
The map, or galaxy, looks pretty and huge but feels bland with little control over chokepoints where battles end up won by who has the biggest fleet available.

So here's my question: which one should I buy if I want to have some kind of diversity between my plays?

Gravity really doesn't give a shit, at a certain point of mass you're going to contract into a sphere no matter what you're made of.

>plus its a non spherical object so its gravity is spread over a non spherical area.
That is not how gravity works, the gravity of an object is determined by it's mass, not it's shape. Most things in the universe are spherical because of gravity.

also they get bonus from commercial district, which is the second most important district for the trade route, so you are gonna be making it anyway. so with 2 overlapping cities with 2 adjacent commercial district, there are 2 spots for hansa that will get at least +5 from adjacency, at half price for hansa. of course with the adjacency bonus civics your production is gonna be much higher than anyone else and since production is the most important factor in this game, german is the most strongest by far for SP.

They're not that bad, I finished a game with them a few hours ago. That UA is pretty good and will be even better when they add more wonders. Catherine's UA is pretty useless though, I played on King and thought spies would be useful to catch on science. They were useful but for a few turns, I outscienced AI easily anyway. That one level of information at the start is pretty good though. If you make her spies start with extra one level instead of an extra spy she would've been better I think. Chateau is completely trash and I don't think I ever used UU so I can't comment on there

They're pretty bad but not the worst imo, with a few tweaks they could be pretty good. Also I liked their themes

guys when i plan out my planet in Stellaris should i respect the tile resources? Most of the time i end up with tons of energy which i don't know what to do with instead of other things i need. Can i redirect energy for science or minerals or something?
>>
>my captial is stuck at 2 population and saying its going to expand in 0 turns and thus never expands
is there a way to fix this
>>
>>158947593
Energy is the only real limiter to military.
Food is the only real tile resource you shouldn't always respect. Sometimes you can also ignore minerals and energy if you are not going to build any on a pure science world.

In your case you should be building more stuff. More starports for more fleets, enact some edicts for minerals or something since you are capped on influence, colonize more. etc etc.
>>
Do I have to reassign my spies every few turns? Can't I just let them be in a district for the rest of the game? One of the things making the endgame boring.
>>
>>158947593
Generally yeah you should try to respect tile resources for maximum efficiency. If you have a large energy surplus you can try to trade it off for minerals to some other empire, but generally it's good to keep a lot of energy around since you'll start losing your surplus when you have a lot of stations and ships.
>>
>>158947798

I know the game's recently out, but what are the best poitners on how to git gud? I've been having fun just fucking around on the lowest difficulties and seeing all the trees, but I'm starting to think I need to get serious on how to stop being a retard and start being strategic. Or does the broken AI in 6 make trying to git gud pointless?

>I guess what I'm really asking is, for a shitty player trying to learn and git gud, is it better to paly single-player against AI's, or in multiplayer even if that means embarrassing oneself against others?
It depends on kind of multiplayer you are persuing. First and foremost, untill highly competitive MP noone gives a shit if you are bad. And the only highly competitive people do is because a bad player wrecks balance of power politics hard. If you are upfront about your incompetence you can find many to play with w/o issue.

If you want to be competitive tho there is no excuse for not beating diety. It's about as hard as 5's immortal, if more tedious. As to how ot get good... Play slow, consider every action carefully, use adjacency and lock every tile. Most of it isn't necessary, but it helps quite a bit and makes you pay attention to what's going on with your cities, thus teaching you to better plan.

Early game is key, if you are having problems mid-late game against the AI it might be worth practicing early game few time quitting at medieval era.

I'm not really looking to play competitive. I mostly play for fun, and I don't really care too much about winning against other people, but at the same time I also don't want to play completely shit, if that makes sense? Like I don't care if I win, but I don't want to be like dead last by a huge margin and embarrass myself. Thank you for your advice. I'm nowhere near at the level to beat a game on deity (as said, I still have trouble even beating on PRine right now). So I suppose I should at least get to that level first and try to slowly work my way up the difficulty levels. But might do some multiplayer against people who aren't too competitve.

It does. In this case play MP. It's way more fun for all involve, just make sure you haven't stumbled into a game where minmaxers are trying to out grognard each other and you will be fine. I'd still say beat king - because that will ensure you have a good grasp of basics, but it's by no means necessary.

>And either way the only reason we can beat Deity AI, you, me, anyonr, is because the AI is balls on a pike retarded.
This was never debatable. And only reinforces my point that there is no excuse for someone who want to play competitively not beating AI is inexcusable.
>>
>>158956997
You haven't played enough paradox games if you don't know yet that half the battle is exploiting the shitty AI.

if you do hit and run attacks in their space from a neutral empire they'll always drag their fleet back to defend; by the time they arrive you'll have fucked off.

If you do that for long enough and blow up a few spaceports you can get warscore for a white peace and then concentrate on making up the gap.
>>
>>158957289
You're missing the point. Fighting Deity AI is, if not using exploits, exploiting the dumbass AI. Sure you can call it ousmarting the AI but in the end it's because the AI is just horribly predictable amd stupid, which means it doesn't particularly help you ahainst players besides learning to optimize build orders (and even then not really)
I think there was a miscommunication, I meant that beating Deity doesn't make you necessarily good, but being good basically implies being able to beat deity with some consistency, if that makes sense.

Oh, I'am behind that fully. But learning to beat diety takes far less time than learning those same skills you will get from beating deity through playing MP. Because you can shamelessly restart, experiment, and you don't need to worry about players quiting or having unequal skill distribution in game. As I said -this applies if you want to become competitive. If you just want to have fun I think you should beat King to grasp the basics and dive into MP, cause its way more fun.

Sumeria is good because Warcarts are king-shit in the ancient and classical era, which gives you huge war capacity when warmonger malus is at the lowest, couple that with tons of free science from Ziggurats, makes for a really good early game civ, and once you have a leg up in the early game it's mostly smooth sailing.

A neighbour that hates me, because I captured their settler, when they wanted to cockblock me by setting up city between mine and their capital, thanks to "4 space limit".

Now I keep rerolling map, but all the time I end up blocked, by either AI or city-state - despite setting up lower numer of CS, 12 instead of 24 (Im playing on Huge map). By blocked, I dont mean that I have AI nearby - thats okay. Not okay when water/mountains block me from all other directions and the only reasonable places to found cities are between em and AI, which force me to rush liberty for free settler, or I risk being blocked completely - and I usually am, because they reach their destination faster.

Maybe I should stick to first two levels of difficulty. I only played one victory game on level 4 and 3, latter on PerfectWorld mapscript and when I spawned on completely empty island.

Religion doesn't matter that much imo. I had a game on immortal I think it was when (apart from prophets obviously) literally every GP was given to me. That, and their unique district that comes much earlier and makes them never have the housing bottleneck that every other civ have

Russia might not be Rome/Germany/Kongo tier but I think they are pretty close and probably better than Japan, even with their start bias.
