If you went through the side rooms and picked everything up, there's no reason to keep it. Lower Pthumeru could be kept since layer 4 has a Messenger Bath to buy DLC weapons in Uncanny/Lost versions, but you could also just find a Pthumeru glyph with one instead.

What I mean is the "Arcane guide" kind of downplays the effectiveness of the early gems by saying shit like "Just get the Cathedral Ward Fire gem and you're good til base game". That's bullshit.

But, if you run, say Hotdog three times for 10% fire gem set? That will hold you off on the base game. Bolt and arcane come later.

You're using Tonitrus? That's kind of the problem; it's not great early on. You need Nourishings or Temperings and either way you gotta use the L1 in every R1 combo you do or it's pretty garbage.

Getting fire gems from Hotdog early on isn't too bad, though.

But, getting into the meat of it all, Arcane gem farming is pretty tedious, depending on exactly what you're going for. Skill builds have the advantage of really only needing common 27.2% Temperings for most weapons, but Arcane requires a lot more intensive farming.

If you really the Toni get the Mensis gems and throw them in it. You should have a 15% Nourshing and a 18% Tempering. That should help.

If you don't plan on doing ANY chalices you're kind of SOL. But, even if you only do the first two Pthumerus you can get some decent Fire gems. If you do Loran you can get some good Bolt gems.

See I disagree, but I don't care much for Korean-tier optimization.

IMO Elder is easier than Watchers, and his drop rate is much more forgiving. Hotdog is a pushover and you don't even need to FRC for great Bolt gems.

Getting an Arcane Abyssal was the worst thing and even that's not TOO bad.

Logi is pretty resistant to non-phys damage, and Ludwig is difficult alone. You could still parry and visceral Logi, or charge r2 after parrying. It's possible to get a +9 Fire Saw Spear before Rom, that's good enough for Ludders.

Basically there's almost no situation in which a waning gem will be better than a two radials and a triangle gem setup. Damn shame honestly, I really wish there was much more variety when it came to gems (variety that's actually worth using that is and isn't just completely outclassed by pure damage)

Does anyone know the exact scaling values for weapons that arnt at +10?

Specifically the STR/SKL scaling of Saw Cleaver, Saw Spear, Threaded Can, Hunters Axe, Kirkhammer, Ludwig's Holy Blade, Rifle Spear, Stake Driver and Tonitrus all at +6.

This question is negated if anyone know of at least 3 Chunks avalible in Depth 3 or lower Chalice Dungeons. There's a glyph claiming to have one in Lower Hintertomb, but a single chunk is useless. I need 3, 8 or 16.

Poison gems for fucked because the Wheel's multihit attacks exists.

If they buffed poison gems to viably poison stuff enough for it to be a primary damage source on any weapon, the Wheel would become massively overpowered.

In the FC earlier today I was poisoning people in a dashing/running R1, and my poison gems were far from the best (16 rapid poison, best possible is 20+). You can poison Undead Giant, Living Failures, Wetnurse and a bunch of other bosses in one hit with the Wheel + proper gems.

No other weapon is viable, but if they were poison wheel would be unstoppable.

Short story: autism

Long story: killing Vicar Amelia as overly-prepared as possible. By doing every you possibly can before her. I won't be leveling up further than the recommend level in the guide (guide recommends entering forest at 40-50, so max "acceptable" level for Amelia would be 49) but everything else I'm trying to get the best you physically can before Amelia. My build will be base Vit/end with STR/SKL as high as I can go without being over 49, and distributed according to the scaling of the weapon I pick.

So basically stuff you can find in Central Yharnam, Cathederal Ward, Old Yharnam, Hemwick, Hypereon Gaol and Depth 1-3 Chalice's.

As far as I know you can only find Chunks post-Amelia and in Depth 4+ dungeons, so a +6 is what I will use. Gems are another issue, Lumpy the Lever Guardian drops 20.3% radial gems (that discovery is what inspired this project, but I've been too busy), and I'm still figuring out the best Triangle gems avalible in Lower Hintertomb root dungeons. My current theory is red-buffed Dungeon Madman.

I want to figure out exactly what the best possible damage against Amelia, taking into account damage types, scaling, modifiers, serrated bonus etc... I will obviously being using Beast Blood Pellets and wearing Djura's set with 0 insight and Firepaper. I think a Uncanny Saw Cleaver is going to be the best, but I'd like to actually work it out fully.

Technically Lumpy could drop Cursed Pooman gems, but it would be a < 0.00001% droprate. I don't think non-Cursed Ghost gems would be much better than 20.3%, and the droprate is really bad. Lumpy is pretty generous.

I really wish there was a definitive list of what causes cursed gems in non-Cursed dungeons. It seems to be Fire-dagger guys, only some Fatties and sometimes the absolute Madmen in Himtertomb.

Whenever the fight starts, I usually throw an Oil Urn at her face while she roars and dodge the jump attack to get on her side. Doing a charge attack will get her on her knees for a visceral, maybe 25/43 might be better. It could probably result in a one-shot visceral. Would like to see if that's possible.

Hmm, a Saw Spear with Thrust gems (Lumpy goes up to 24% I think) would be insane on a 25/43 build. But the farming required would be insane, out of 50 Lumpy runs I got 2 Adepts and only one was thrust. I don't know if I have the patience to get two maxed Thrust gems.

Would an oil urn even do anything? Fire paper is 80 flat damage, Amelia has 55 fire defense. So each hit would do 44 fire damage. An oil urn would double that to 88 for one attack only. I guess it's a good way to start the fight, but the time spent throwing would be better used on slower (and thus heavier hitting) attacks.

I wish I knew exact scaling numbers. Then I could work out what each attack on each weapon would do to Amelia.
