IL2?

I'm playing Cliffs of Dover, if you have a decent enough machine it runs fine these days, and it's fun. But you need the TF mod. Think it goes for like 9 bucks usually.

The "new" IL2, Battle of Stalingrad/Moscow, not as much. It's on sale currently for 40 bucks or so, which is alright, but it doesn't perform all that well so you'll have to deal with 30fps it also only really has presets for stupid reasons for now so you can't really do much about it. Flight models are top though and you can multicrew bombers and shit in multiplayer, which is also ded though.

1946, always worth it because there's just so much damn stuff in it and it's fun.

Also, I think I'm getting into infinity again. I just need some good shit to play with. I'm kinda getting bored with my Flanker-F. Any Ideas on planes and special weapons?

I was thinking about Pixy Morgan but I won't be able to oneshot reds thanks to mudrole retardation.

Pixy morgan is easy and cheap to level. Give him parts focused on his main missiles and he'll do fine for the most part. For the Sp.W just level up the sp parts themselves.

Every board on 4chan, subject to interest and management stepping up, creates a virtual soccer team in PES. These teams then enter a tournament composed of a round robin group stage followed by a paired bracket elimination stage, at the end of which one team rises above them all.
The /vg/ team just fucking annihilated the /tg/ team, which completely reverses their traditional power dynamic
>>
>>158891065
Who plays the game though?

>>158891279

>>158939754
Too bad they transform into roberts.
>>
>>158939871
Yes, but it won't run as well. I suggest at the very least ripping the ISOs from your discs if you can.
>>
>>158942225
I don't think this is true. The PS2 didn't have a particularly fast disk drive, you're probably fine leaving them in the drive.

You'll get faster load times if you rip to hard disk though.
>>
>>158942225
>>158942739
Yeah I just looked it up and the PS2's drive is 4x DVD speed and basically every single drive you can buy today will do 16X or more. You're probably fine leaving it in the tray.
>>
>>158942225
How do you do that though? I know how with the PSP, but I never bothered with the PS2 stuff given that mine runs just fine. But upscaling some of the games would be neat.

Literally the first time I've drawn eversince those Starfox threads a year or so ago. I really need to pick it up again one of these days. I've been mostly doing 3d models to work with in Sketchup for fun, which incidentally has made me shit at freehanding stuff consistently.

I think BT handled them the best.

Originally conceived during the Star League era, the Land-Air 'Mech (or LAM) is a hybrid military unit capable of transforming between BattleMech and Aerospace Fighter forms. This ability conveys great speed and flexibility at the cost of power and protection. LAMs are a preferred recon and raiding unit but their fragility and rarity made them uncommon in the original SLDF and increasingly so in the Succession War era. Save for a brief revival during the final years of the Word of Blake, the Land-Air 'Mech has been relegated to museums.

LAMs are unduly susceptible to damage. Hits to their delicate structure can easily block the transformation mechanism and lock the LAM in whatever mode it was in upon taking damage. This usually cripples the LAM as it takes away its greatest asset: versatility. Available information also suggests that LAMs require an enormous maintenance effort to remain operable, an aspect which offsets their limited tactical advantages.

Land-Air Mech Pilots require proficiency in both the MechWarrior and AeroSpace pilot training programs. The difficulty in mastering both, as well as the complex AirMech mode, is generally such that LAM pilots prove to be medicore MechWarriors or AeroSpace pilots if forced to pilot standard 'Mech or fighters.

Thanks to their transforming ability, LAMs combine some features of Aerospace Fighters and BattleMechs as well as a hybrid mode in between called AirMech mode. While highly versatile, LAMs are jacks-of-all-trades and masters of none. While able to serve double-duty as both a Aerospace Fighter and BattleMech, the required conversion equipment means that a LAM in either mode has less combat capacity ton-for-ton than a fighter or 'Mech of equivalent weight. Even in the Star League era the heaviest LAM to see action on the battlefield was 50 tons. This significantly limits their effectiveness against heavy and assault weight aerospace fighters and 'Mechs

I don't play Infinity, but the P-38 is my american WWII-fu, so that's the only answer.

Zero is flimsy anyhow, N1K best japfu.
>>
>>159053334
Best choices are P-38 and BF-109.
Spirfire is balanced and painfully mediocre at everything, Zero has good speed and mobility but paper defenses, relatively low attack and both are important.
P-38 has the least mobility but reat defense, BF-109 has decent mobility, decent defense and the guns are murder machines, both for damage and accuracy.

Overall to me BF-109 wins to me because it's on par with the P-38 but can still outmanouver it.

The ruggedness of the Thunderbolt was put to the test on June 26, 1943. 56th Fighter Group sent 48 P-47C to provide escort for B-17s returning from a mission against Villacoublay airfield in the Paris suburbs.

As the P-47s approached the rendezvous point near Forges-les-Eaux, they were jumped from above and behind by 16 Focke-Wulf Fw 190s of II Gruppe, JG 26. Robert S. Johnson, who was flying in the back of the pack was hit by 20mm cannon fire into the cockpit, rupturing his hydraulic systems. Johnson's P-47 was tumbling with hydraulic fluid burning and partially blinding Johnson. A few moments later, the tumbling stopped and levelled off. Johnson tried to pry his canopy open but it was stuck.

After he wrestled control back from the aircraft and flew towards the English Channel, he was intercepted by the commander of III/JG 2, Oberst Egon Mayer. Mayer, seeing that Johnson was suffering in his presumably wrecked plane, gave Johnson a coup de grâce. After 3 passes and running out of ammunition, Mayer rocked his wings in a form of salute and peeled off.

When Johnson reached the Allied airfield, he counted the holes the plane had received and after 200 holes had been counted, Johnson gave up counting after just counting on one side.

I haven't been to Wellington for ages, I think there is some ANZAC display at Te Papa due to WWI 100 years. Guess it is part of that. I mean to go, but so expensive to travel with the price of gas these days. (whatever NZD1.73 a liter is in freedom units)
>>
>>159213637
I'd really love to go see that stuff sometime but NZ is pretty much on the other side of the globe.

And no clue, it's about 1.10-1.30 here which is about the same in USD.
>>
1.73NZD is equivalent to about 1.26 USD.

A US fluid gallon is about 3.8 liters.

Therefore, 1.73 nzd a liter is about $4.79 a gallon, about 2x the cost of 87 AKI regular unleaded fuel.

I'm alright. On a 4 hour bus trip home. I dropped the night class this month so I could focus on physics and getting better at programming (also having a 9am-4pm and a 5pm-1am class back-to-back is suffering). I was planning on using today to clean the apartment, but my parents woke me up at 10 saying "get ready, you're coming home for the weekend, the bus leaves at 12 and the next one wont be until late at night. Ok, bye." So I had two hours to make and eat breakfast, bathe, get clothes ready, pack my shit, lock the place up, get an uber, and get on the bus. Luckily, it still hadn't left when I arrived at 12:03 and boarded just in time.

Collective idealogical thinking is shit. Different principles, ideologies, and paradigms themselves are fine in order to figure out problems, find meaning and purpose, and deciding how to approach things. The problem arises when people who agree on or "share" those ideologies form or become part of group based on it. This is a problem because it easily creates and leads to an "us versus them" mentality, like with political parties. For the longest time when I was younger, I basically based which presidents I liked by their political party: republican was good, democrat was bad. Thankfully, I later learned that was a bullshit way of seeing things. Now, I liked presidents based on their actions and earnestness. Washington was independent, John Adams Federalist, Thomas Jefferson Dem-Rep, Teddy Progressive, Ronald Reagan Republican, and JFK Democrat, and they all were great. On the other hand, you also got shit stains from those same parties too.

Depends on the size of the kitchen.

Usually 1-3 days in my experience for the cabinets. Assuming an average size kitchen of ~12 cabinets, that is 1 day to hang the cabinets, and 1 day to do the crown, toe kick, drill in hardware, patch in baseboard, and all the other fiddly bits. Add another day for more cabinets or a vanity.

Of course, that is not counting demo and prep that happens beforehand, but the people who do that kind of work generally do not speak english so I could not tell you how long it takes them.

Yes.

I mostly read fantasy like a pleb when I was a kid. Read Clancy and similar works for a few years in high school before dropping it altogether.

Got back into it a few years ago. Now I mostly read stuff on politics/religion/history.

Started reading this some time ago and it's probably the only book I've ever dropped for being too dull and repetitive. I can go at obscure texts of the historical links between Nationalist and Prussian Socialism for hours at a time, but this is the first book that actually broke me for repeating itself too much. Being able to do so with subject material like Cold War era test pilots is practically an achievement itself.

4 has the most bugs out of the 3 sadly. I don't really have much to tell you, because I'm not convinced there is a computer that can run 04 in software mode - my 6700k at 4.5 GHz doesn't run AC04 at full speed in software mode in 3rd person view.

>>
>>159282801
Each game is its own self-contained story. There are references between them but you won't really miss anything, no.

Honestly, AC04 in hardware mode should be totally playable. The graphical glitches that show up aren't THAT bad, at least IMO.
>>
>>159282801
Not really, as 4 is a generally self-contained plotline unrelated to 5
>>
>>159282801
The best goddamn plot in the series, that's what

the other games have less weighty and slow gameplay but 04 has this weird charm about it. If you're new to the PS2 games the others will handle more like the modern AC games.

desu, I still have the time for it but it's much more split up these days, if that makes sense. I know /aceg/ is primarily for off-topic posting and dedposting, but I have an actual gameplay question if anyone would like to discuss ACI.

I just got out of a Moscow game where some A-10 raped everything. Ended up with like 100K in the end. My dinky little 4AGMs can't keep up with the FAEB spam.

Thing is, I don't like the A-10 or any other FAEB attacker and I'd feel like a tool to level one just for meta.

I did have my eye on the F-2. Can attacker UGBs keep up with FAEBs with the right parts? I know multirole UGBs used to be god and then they were nerfed, but I never seen anyone talk about attacker UGBs.

That's not optimal, though it is easier.

Optimal is going in through the left hand tunnel, popping its generator, flying out the openings in the top, flipping over into the right hand tunnel, and hitting that generator. Once you come out of that one, you loop up over your right hand shoulder and down to hit the last generator. And then you do the last missile.

"Back then, I was bursting with pride. I wanted to lead us to victory, for Belka's honor. Staying where it was nice and warm wouldn't accomplish anything. My flight's mission was to maintain air superiority in Area B7R, an essential area we couldn't allow to be violated. That day, when I heard the order from HQ for reinforcements, I became angry. The stationed force was in chaos just because of two mercenaries. There was no way the mighty Belkan Air Force could lose to mere mercenaries. My pride was shot and the Round Table was defiled. What went wrong? Whatever it may be, the fact remains that I was forced to talk a different path from the one I envisioned."

The Air Force next month plans to brief industry on a new project to ready a speed-of-light defensive weapon for the F-22A Raptor, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter as well as a planned follow-on fighter capability in an effort that aims to demonstrate a prototype laser pod as soon as 2021.

On Dec. 6, the Air Force Research Laboratory at Kirtland Air Force Base, NM, will outline for industry plans for the "upcoming" acquisition, the Laser Advancements for Next-generation Compact Environments (LANCE), according to a notice published on Federal Business Opportunities Oct. 25.

"The objective of the [briefing] is to provide a timely update to the government-contractor community on the mission and vision of the LANCE project," according to the notice.

The LANCE project -- led by the lab's laser division of the Directed Energy Directorate -- is intended to support a larger project: the Self-Protect High Energy Laser Demonstrator (SHiELD) advanced technology demonstration program. The SHiELD demonstration aims to find a way to make a laser, powered by tens of kilowatts of electricity, function effectively at supersonic speeds by demonstrating system performance under stressing aerodynamic conditions.

Earlier this year, the Air Force asked industry for feedback on its idea for a LANCE project, soliciting "information on industry's capability to advance electrically driven lasers suitable for compact airborne application in an aerodynamic integrated pod-like structure carried on 5th- and 6th-generation tactical aircraft."
>>
The Air Force considers the current fleet of F-22A Raptor and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, which is still in development and is also commencing operation, to be considered 5th generation aircraft. The service is exploring options for a follow-on 6th-generation fighter in the 2030s and plans in 2017 to formally begin assessing options for what is now called a penetrating counterair capability.

"Of particular interest to AFRL are laser technologies expected to be at [Technology Readiness Level] 4 or higher by 2017," states the Feb. 2 description of the notional LANCE project, technically mature enough that the basic components are integrated in a laboratory environment and work together. The Air Force also wants these technologies to have the potential to be integrated into a system model or ready for prototype demonstration in a relevant environment by 2021, the notice states.

"Advanced laser options under investigation are those with size and weight appropriate for integration as part of a complete laser weapon system (beam control, power, thermal control, and integrating structure subsystems) into an aerodynamic integrated pod-like structure carried by a tactical aircraft," the notice states.

Meantime, ARFL in August pushed ahead with a related project, awarding Northrop Grumman a $39 million contract to use a directed-energy system for self-protection in a project dubbed SHiELD Turret Research In Aero Effects (STRAFE).

The STRAFE objective is to design and build a moderate-energy laser beam control system for flight test and demonstration as part of an integrated laser system pod mounted to a tactical aircraft that breaks the sound barrier and reaches supersonic speeds, according to an Air Force summary.

On Nov. 1, W. Mark Skinner, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems vice president for directed energy, said as part of the STRAFE project, the company "is integrating an innovative beam director with proven beam-control technologies to help the Air Force define and successfully demonstrate a laser weapon capability for current and next generation aircraft."

The beam-control system, Skinner explained in a company statement, "characterizes the flight environment for atmospheric disturbances that could distort the laser beam, acquires and tracks incoming targets, determines an aim point for the laser, then 'shapes' and focuses the outgoing beam on the target."

Fun fact: supersonic jets have swept-shaped wing designs due to a certain Spitfire almost breaking mach 1 in a nose dive speed test and getting the propellers ripped off and the wings benting backwards due to stress.
>>
"I had a bad feeling when I was flying towards the Round Table. Why would they have such problems downing two mercenaries? I figured it was temporary chaos and it'd be over by the time I got there. The pilots of the Belkan Air Force are true professionals, but when I saw the situation I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought maybe my IFF was malfunctioning. There were still two enemies on the radar. Everyone else in my squadron had the same reaction. "This is really happening..." Every now and then someone like that appears on a battlefield. Someone special, y'know? I squinted my eyes and confirmed the situation, checked the terrain, air currents, his plane, his maneuvers, and his remaining ammo. I figured I could do it. I knew what I was getting into, but he still outmaneuvered me beyond my expectation."

Google, I just have a large folder of random aircraft shit.

But I'm pretty sure if you look for Luft 46 models or something there'd be more, given that that seems to be the term for fictional WWII content.

>>159432174
Well that's one of many incidents where warbirds in a dive went transsonic or supersonic, just one where the pilot happened to survive it because he managed to pull out of it again.

I'd also factor in aircraft like the 262 and 163 both of which have similar accounts. Albeit the sweep back on the wings of the 262 barely does anything. There are accounts of a 163 exceeding 1000kph during testflights at sea level (around Mach 1), although it's not official and has too little documentation to be anything more than questionable.

That said, sweep isn't as important as the thickness of the wing and the profile. Supersonic wings are relatively thin and ideally shaped like a diamond to account for the shockwaves.

On the weird 190 above the wings are only weirdly shaped to account for a weight distribution that was not intended for the aircraft originally. But that thing never really made it past the paper and is Napkinwaffe IIRC.

Lastly, Comet is a wonderful name for a rocket fighter.

P-38s in particular were known for getting stuck in dives.
>>

On another note, does anyone of you know how to figure out how much buoyancy to add to something? I'm toying around in sketchup and I've got this thing.

Thing is, the one on the left is the original the pontoon is perhaps a bit big I made ages ago, but I want to make it sleaker, so I thought about retractable pontoons, but would those three small ones be enough to keep a medium sized aircraft afloat?

>>159435040
Yeah, to be fair the 38 had issues because it went so damn fast that it ran into an issue that was not known all that well before, which is the compressibility of air.

Although I don't remember much about it myself.

That said, going really fast in those kind of planes also leads to issues like control reversal, which probably caught many pilots by surprise and killed them.

Essentially you are going so fast that the control surfaces are bent just enough to turn your controls around to the point where pulling the stick will push the nose down, and pushing will pull it up.
>>
>>159435762
I am 100% sure people knew air could be compressed back in 1940s.

I am pretty sure it was known to an extent, as said above, but not flight tested all that well if at all because it was a non-issue on most aircraft. Especially earlier in the war.

At least that's what I remember hearing in Aerodynamics years ago. But correct me if I'm wrong.
>>
>>159438021
Yeah, a good deal of stuff was theorized, or conceptually known, but very little of that knowledge was tested or made it across to the people building planes.

I mean, Hydronamica was published in the 18th century, right? Fluid dynamics (gaseous or liquid) was not totally unknown, at least subsonic.

Yeah there's some old stuff around. Bernoulli's principle shows up quite a bunch in aerodynamics and while there are differences to hydrodynamics, they probably get lost in simplifications.

But I'll be honest, my knowledge on this stuff has dropped a lot since I last used it.

That said, yeah, there is quite a difference between subsonic and supersonic aerodynamics, or rather anything from about 300 or 400kph upwards IIRC. Which is most of the smaller aircraft today and a lot of the early ones.

One of the reasons why planes came to be so damn late compared to other vehicles is probably somewhat less the theory and more the fact that failed attempts at flight tended to kill people and knowledge relatively easily. That and the invention of the petrol engine.

Anyway, been ded awhile (idk about PW but ASE certainly has), due to the programmer burning himself out (back though) and me taking on some financial responsibilities that are way out of my level, but work has restarted.

Server code is mostly completed, we will be testing the lag compensation etc. very soon. We also put in a preliminary takeoff and landing system and visual improvements such as afterburners and contrails which you can look at here:

https://streamable.com/j9ln

Right now the F-16 is stolen from HAWX so it has no landing gear model or animation, but it does touch the ground and roll on it to demonstrate the mechanic.
