I want to see an expansion of and rebalance of Dark Arts effects, and more support for DRK to be useful as an off-tank:


DA Scourge should apply a slashing debuff.
DA Delirium should proc Reprisal without needing a parry.
DA Power Slash should be boosted up to at least an 8-9x enmity multiplier from the current 6.5x (which is almost nothing since it's 5.5x unbuffed).
DA Dark Dance should give you a 100% chance to parry the next physical hit (and after that one single hit, have the current DA effect).
DA Living Dead should have no defensive effect but restore your MP to full.
Blood Price should proc on a miss just so people can stop whining endlessly about shit that doesn't ever matter.
Blood Price should also get a 61+ Trait that turns it into a targetable buff that you can place either on yourself or on another party member, so you can benefit from it while off-tanking by placing it on the MT.
Non-DA Carve and Spit should be 100 potency in an AoE cone.


A general change I'd like to see that would benefit all classes is to split the targeting system into an "enemy target" and "ally target" system, rather than having to clumsily switch your target between allies and enemies or use mouseover macros and other clumsy solutions.

For example, a ninja could set the off-tank to their "ally target" and then use Shadewalker on them without ever deselecting the boss from their "enemy target". Or a healer could switch their "ally target" around from party member to party member, doing spot heals as required, while keeping their "enemy target" set to the boss, so that they could seamlessly use offensive and curative skills without having to ping-pong around between ally and enemy targets.

I played XIV for a couple months about a year ago, but had to stop playing for reasons unrelated to the game.

I want to play again, but can't log in. I used to log in with a one-time-password from the security token app on my phone. Now when I open the app, it seems to be logged out, so in order to reactivate the security token I need to log in, but I cant log in without a security token.

Dark Dance should just share a cooldown with Dark Mind and have it's effect buffed so it's a reliable physical mitigator.

Make it 60s cooldown (shared with Dark Mind) which gives 50% parry for 10 seconds, or 100% parry when used with DA.

That would give DRK some versatility against physical tank busters without making it overpowered.

Similarly, PLD's Sheltron should be changed to a stoneskin-like effect that absorbs 10% of their max HP in damage. That would make it useful against magic damage, so DRK doesn't have a massive advantage in magic heavy fights.

Classes don't matter whatsoever. The only thing that affects a mission pass/fail are the actual stats of your recruits. You could have all tanks / all dps / all healers and it'd work fine, as long as you pass the required stat checks.
You can still succeed without passing all of them, but it gets worse the further off you are, and it's a 100% fail if it's a promotion mission unless you meet ALL the requirements.

I think that making them share a cooldown would make that change into an overall nerf that I don't think is really necessary.

I'd prefer for them to stay separate cooldowns, where Dark Mind is a strong cooldown (since magic mitigation is sort of DRK's speciality) and Dark Dance is a weak cooldown (since physical mitigation is supposed to be where they have some difficulty), but Dark Dance could use a SMALL boost to its effectiveness under DA, since it already has a DA effect that is basically useless. Giving it the 100% parry chance on just a single hit would basically fill in DRK's biggest gap in mitigation, without making it too strong as a physical mitigator (since it wouldn't do a ton for multi-hit tankbusters which have become fairly commonplace).


I agree with where you're going for Paladin, but I would do it a little differently.

I would instead change Clemency to be a 600 potency heal, 600 potency shield (if cast on another party member, it would be a 1200 potency heal to that party member, and a 600 potency shield to the Paladin), and make it not break combos - so that would be PLD's go-to for light magic mitigation.

I think that Sheltron should, when triggered by an enemy, inflict a short, 6-second debuff that lowers the target's damage by 10%, like Reprisal and Storm's Path.

Bulwark should be buffed to a 100% block chance, because that skill is a fucking joke and they don't offer players any sort of consistent variety in shield type anyway.

And I think that Circle of Scorn should apply the same Slashing debuff as Storm's Eye/Dancing Edge (in case it isn't obvious at this point, I think that the game really needs to give the Eye/Path effects to all tanks in one form or another, and what should vary is how they actually inflict those effects and what sort of uptime they can maintain on them).

The only DA-enabled skills that aren't useful in both their DA and non-DA forms are Souleater (which I agree sucks and non-DA Souleater should definitely serve a purpose) and Dark Dance (which would be entirely solved by giving DADD a 100% parry rate on the first hit you take).

Dark Mind is useful in both forms.
Dark Passenger is the best or second-best use of DA for damage as soon as there are two targets on the field.
Carve and Spit is a choice between more single-target damage and a free extra GCD of AoE damage, both of which are useful.
Abyssal Drain is a decent self-heal with DA, and a significant DPS increase over Unleash without DA.

Power Slash is usually a 'don't do this' button, but A) has occasional, marginal use even in its shitty present form, and B) would be extremely easily fixable by just increasing the bonus it gives to your enmity multiplier.

Unless you plan on trying to buy a house or getting into endgame crafting, there's really nothing else to spend your gil on until at least 3.5, and probably 4.0, so if you have the money, you might as well.

On the other hand, if you're a fresh 60, you're probably not getting fast-tracked into high-end endgame content, and so the gear is probably largely overkill for what you'll be doing in the near future, and you can replace it with "free" i250 gear within a matter of weeks through Creator NM, so there's no pressure to do so.

AST and WHM are way too similar in spells.
I think AST is alright, I think WHM could do with a gimmick like AST's cards.

An action with a 30s cooldown they can use on an enemy or ally target:
Damaging spells they cast on a marked enemy also heal an injured ally within 10 yards of the target for a minimal amount, and generates a stack of Water.

Healing spells they cast on a marked ally also damages a nearby enemy a minimal amount, and generates a stack of Earth.

Expend 5 stacks of Water to regain a bit of MP to make up for the casting cost of the damage spells, and boost healing by 10% for 20s.
