Essences are exactly what this game needed. They function as extra loot, they make leveling easier, it makes the game more enjoyable for newer players, and it even encourages people to buy more stash tabs.

Anyone else playing on a laptop have have the issue of it sometimes shutting down when playing POE? I don't have that with any other game and i can play those for hours without any issues. I also don't think it's a heat issue, since it gets quite hot with other games too, but doesn't shut down.

I have over 50 passive points spent towards life points alone(which won't even get me 7k life). 5k Armour, 17-35k evasion, 75% dodge, 48% spelldodge, cannot be affected by status ailments, does not take extra damage from crits - blind with almost 100% uptime from stibnite, good leech and often heal to full on multistrike crits because atziri's gloves.

Do you think endgame gives a shit? Nah, still oneshot combos all over the place because one-shot balance.

I despise the oneshot endgame balance so much it is absolutely a bad design goal for an ARPG, but people here will just fucking claim it's all good - then proceed to play builds with skills or overpowered things waiting to be nerfed that will trivialize the game and then they come here on forum telling you some builds can do it so it is fine, when in fact the builds that reliable do it are laming builds abusing things that will be nerfed for doing exactly what people use them for - rolling over content without challenge. Defenses? hah fuck em just go CI stack pool and maximize dps/instant leech so you are protected against oneshots and will fully heal instantly you take any damage. Good endgame balance huh fuck all the defenses they put in the game 70% cannot be counted on in any way whatsoever and it mostly comes down to the oneshot balance - that leaves most defenses only super useful against trash content.

Solution to this is actually kind of simple

This can be done a plethora of ways. The "debuff" could come in any form, a DoT, some big AoE that will have a high chance of hitting you after the fact, any number of ways. It doesn't have to be "be ready to pot your ass off and hope your rng defenses roll in your favor".
Also:

This leads to players being unable to be one shot but you can still be hit to 1 hp and then die from a random arrow from a skeleton.
