I really don't think I should play arena. I feel like the rewards are so paltry I don't want to risk getting a bad draft when the best reward I can get is 2 packs and like 80g. Additionally so far, with my tickets I have just had terrible luck. Getting boardwiped by Fafnir, getting my big lifesaving taunt wrecked by Odin, getting out tempo'd by someone with with Olivia wantonly evolving to win the board, any time someone drops Leonidas, getting ultimately outvalued by Mordecai and phoenix roost into Satan. Not to mention I feel like I am at a severe disadvantage just for going first.

The problem is they also get first evolution. They evolve first then you counter evolve then they counter evolve then you counter evolve then they counter evolve. So they end up with the first and last evolution on the field.

They keep all momentum from the very start of the evolution chain and you have to play their game.

It's more sensible to start with a core/basic set. It has way more cards needed for 90% of the decks out there than DE. But you don't wanna be locked out of bronze/silver DE cards and have to craft them, so 2:1 is sensible. 3:1 is possible too, but with most rewards being standard card tickets over DE tickets 2:1 is fine.

you might wanna practice take2 with a buddy then. I can't tell you what you're doing wrong unless I'm watching or someshit, but I can guarantee you that there's a lot of ways to fuck up in this game since evolution gives you a lot of plays/options per turn.

I watched someone play earlier and they misused their evos a lot for example, sometimes potentially costing them the game. I understood their reasoning for doing what they did but my point is it's really easy not to make the optimal play every turn especially if you're not as familiar with the game.

Aggro Blood actually drops going second a few percent because it relies on being the fastest aggro deck in the game and going first just makes it even faster. Stuff like Banner barely changes if I remember right, too.

Conversely, I think some top tier Control decks have a bigger difference in win percentage than 3%, hovering around 5-7% instead. Never 10% though, that's only a petdeck thing.

there's a couple of standout decks that seem to benefit abnormally much from going 2nd, but they're the minority. if you look at the upper table, each craft doesn't see a winrate increase of higher than 3%~ for going 2nd.

There definitely are decks that do benefit from going 2nd more than others (Tempo Elf is probably the most major example, since they can curve Princess Elf Mage into Tia going 2nd but can't do that going 1st) but these are clearly the exceptions and not the rule when you look at the overall rates per craft.

Why is "Path to Purgatory" a neutral card? Shadowcraft is the only class that can amass shadows. It's completely worthless in every other deck class.

It's big. Especially when EVERY class benefits from 2nd - this is extremely improbable in a card game with various playstyles, as certain decks (like aggro) should naturally benefit from going first, while others (like control) naturally benefit from going second.


Like you guys can sugarcoat this all you want, but it's a big issue for a 1vs1 game. I don't doubt it will be patched.

After a week or so of non-stop arena'ing I've come to some conclusions regarding classes:

Sword - easiest to get the most broken deck, and otherwise you always get a balanced good deck. S tier.
Dragon - slightly harder to get the good deck but still. A tier.
Haven - may be very well above-S tier if you get the right cards but luck is not always on your side with it. So also A tier.
Shadow - solid but building somewhat OP deck takes quite a luck. But average decks are pretty good so B+ tier.
Blood - must build aggro to win and, well, it's arena - you don't always get what you want. C tier.
Runecraft - gets an extremely low chance to get a good deck if stars align well. C- tier.
Forest - with your given cards it's very hard to overpower your opponents. Honestly, I don't remember a single forest I've lost to. D tier.

I'll be honest and say I have no idea what's up with necro but it has the lowest playrate so I don't know if it's something to account for.

Most of the crafts that are heavily advantaged all got specific cards that upset the balance for them - for everyone else, the difference isn't any higher than 3% like I said because the actual inherent advantage to going 2nd right now isn't that significant, it's just certain cards that were printed.

And even for the main offenders, it's certainly nowhere near 10% like you claimed >>158831310

Nobody also said that going 2nd isn't favored right now or that nothing is going to be done about it, of course it is and something is going to be done, any dumbass could tell that, but most of the "changes" suggested in this thread based on the supposed 10% winrate difference would just break it the other way because it was the opposite situation pre-DE, except far worse and that's why they added the extra draw to begin with.

I actually think that bunch of people don't know how to make a correct play against turn4 evolve.

For example, enemy use evolved Dragon Warrior kill your 2/2 and 2/3 on turn 4, leaves a 4/3 on board.

Most people I see in the game will just evolve whatever they have in hand to counter them because they're too afraid of losing board control, which is not always the right play.

Sometimes you can just put down a 3/3 to contest if you got better play with evolve points in the following turns.

Some people will just evolve the 3/3 into 5/5, trade, become 5/1 and then die to enemy's Fire Lizard.

People aren't just memeing about evolve mechanic having depth.
It's about what cards you have in hand, what's your win condition, what answer the other player could possibily have.

That guy has board control and 2 points. You pass your turn giving him back priority with 2 points. Your "contesting play" is to let his floater trade into another one of your cards; in the WORST CASE for him he just trades his dragon, getting himself a 3 for 1 value at that point from that dragon, and then places a new board which YOU have to respond to - without having lost a single resource (dragon trades 1:1, evolve remains intact).

That's the worst case. In better cases he can kill your 3/3 that "contests" his dragon freely and play an additional threat.

It's simply too much.

An idiotic statement. You could say that about any deck. The fact remains that you have to make big decisions in your mulligan and the choice between setting up (amulets) versus playing big threats. That's for the first early turns. Then you have to manage your removal correctly.

No, it's not fucking chess, but it's a hell of a lot more thought than an aggro deck, hence newbies are prone to making mistakes with it and lose based on one mistake in lower brackets.

It's traditionally considered favorable for DShift. You're not going to Roach them reliably for lethal before turn 9 which is about when you will get rekt by combo. Every damage you eat along the way is permanent save a lucky (and tempo ruining) Fairy Beast. It's quite difficult to get fairies to stick against Missiles, Kaleidoscope, Barrage/Fire Chain and Angelic. It's certainly not a 50-50 match-up.

Sure, his Dragon did a one for 3, but every deck has their strong swing cards.
If the game is decided simply becuase he played a turn 4 Dragon Warrior, people going second will win all the time.

You will never PTP them before they combo you, so that win condition is out of the question. It forces you into playing like a tempo deck, which, unless you are an hybrid build, you won't be able to do to apply sufficient pressure.

You're still playing from BEHIND ON TEMPO while being EVEN ON RESOURCES.

Do you get this? You have no way to have advantage post turn 4 without committing an evolve point, and that's without your opponent losing out on resources.


Nobody's saying it's a 100% loss for 1st player you dense idiot, but you can't disprove that the 2nd player has a clear advantage with your argument. By your argument the 2nd player still has tempo AND is even on resources (at least).
