I think it's called Focused Burst. Use that jump. Verticality is the name of the game for getting height with warlocks. People say it's shit they're just shit with it. If you want to go high, You have to glide instantly. If you initiate glide while you're falling down, it won't do anything for you. Glide is best for losing height slowly.
Going fast is about doing it like titans where you push a as fast as you can to jump>glide>cancel. You can only do it once as a warlock compared to a titan's 3. You aren't anywhere as fast but you'll leave hunters in the dust. Focus on Armor/Recovery.

It doesn't help that there's so many things that can 2-3 hit you that sometimes you don't realize you're fucked until it's too late regardless. Or that getting away from who you're fighting doesn't always mean safety.
I spent a lot of last night thinking I was retreating at a good time, only to get picked off by their teammate's sidearm or something. so they got away AND I still died, and a trade is a better outcome than that in those situations.
(Of course, I could have been saved from a couple of those situations if my teammates weren't shit at callouts. If you're dead and you've got outline on someone, fucking warn your surviving teammates of where they're at. Then again, we're not usually dead for THAT long, so I'm thinking a lot of people just don't think to keep death camming them... You gotta learn to take that to your advantage though. Like keeping track of who killed the opponents who are already down and letting them be bait while the people who aren't outlined try to pick off the stragglers.That was some fun meta right there last night.)

*Knowing the maps is a huge factor. Radar helps some but if you don't actually know the possible routes an enemy could take it can end up just distracting you. If you don't know where a popular sniper spot is, you might think it's clear and then get owned. Also knowing how long it takes a sprinting guardian to move between points on a map will help you be able to take down an enemy that killed one of your teammates and then kept running.
Of course learning how to aim and land headshots will help you if you're trading shots with someone. Combine this with getting good at strafing while aiming so you can zig zag out of their shots while you shoot.
Finally, farm for those god roll weapons to make all of this easier.
