They are still good with killing trash mobs thanks to epi. Other than that necros are actually pretty bad now. Their single target DPS is pretty bad even with epi bounces.

An epidemic nerf similar to what they did with SoI will be the final nail in the coffin for necro until next expac.

How do I melee class? Porlly the stupidest question of the day but I have been having the hardest time trying to grasp how to play a melee class in this game. I can kite and shit all day but when I try a class that has to pretty much sit there dodge the big bad stuff it fall flat. I feel it the worst when you get more then 2 mobs and anything vet and above. Any tips on how now to be the worst player in this game?

You should be moving around your target and dodging. If you're in front of a boss that hits hard you should be dishing out DPS and dodging when it gets too hot. You're in charge of your own survival in most instances, so getting the most out of your heal skill, endurance (dodging meter), and finding ways to mitigate damage further will keep you alive.

Damage mitigation, dodging, and staying mobile will keep you going as a melee profession. Should also be keeping range weapons like longbow on warrior, scepter/longbow on guardian/dragonhunter, hammer on revenant, shortbow on thief, etc for fights where both playstyles are needed to not only progress the fight but survive it during sticky situations. You need to access the situation and make the necessary changes.

I'm honestly not sure about your friend, he might've had some bad experiences, but a similar question was asked about the NA guild, and there were a lot of people who had positive things to say, everyone's mileage varies. They apparently had a costume contest just yesterday.

I'm in it, I don't think anyone's particularly mean. This thread has been dead, so I don't think there's shitposting cliques if there was, angry memers sounds funny don't know what to say about that, and they have 2 co-leaders now.

The guildchat is sorta only active in bursts because they use Discord, unless there's an update worth playing, but it's p welcoming and moderated. I'd give it a chance and see what you, yourself think.

NA FUN is dead, it's basically just HOPE and FUN now, both of which are okay in my book.

general pve, I have a guardian, necro and engineer. on necro I already have exotic armor which has some chill runes so i won't bother with that for now (but it seems good and chill is fun) but idk what to do with my two other heroes

Scholar runes on power builds, Berserker runes on condi builds and Thorn runes on necro condi builds.
Then you generally want Air and Force sigils on power builds, and Geomancy, Earth, Malice or Bursting sigils on condi. It depends a little on what class exactly but those are the general ones.

If you're lazy, but the armor they give isn't the greatest. As for profession, I personally find mesmer the most fun even if we end up on support duty in endgame. If you're interested in eventually raiding you might want to avoid Engineer, Revenant, and Necromancer for now.

we have 1 full raid as endgame pve content and like 10 high level fractals but they're not endgame because a pug group can finish them in 40 minutes. They're both fun for a while. Raids are really fun if you start an inexperienced group and work together.

pvp is the same at whatever level, there are jackholes doing shitty everytime. PvP is really fun for a while unless you dont have HoT then it's not fun for very long.

Super fun, jack of all trades. Decent survivability/damage/utility/defense. Completely viable and pretty fun swinging a hammer around.
If you dont have HoT he's harder to play because you have to go glass cannon which isnt really something you should do as a new player imo.

Fun character to level in PvE because there's lots to use even without the elite spec and you wont get blown out by enemies.

raids is the only thing where some classes will be unwanted. right after you make a character you can go into pvp lobby and test your characters on golems with everything unlocked to get an idea of how the classes feel, I'd recommend that. really playing something you enjoy is #1, theres tons of content and only in raids will a couple classes be undesired. Don't pick something you think is less fun because 5% of the content that is very very late game is more viable than something else. I burned myself out 3 years ago when i tried this game for the first time, picked meta class, rushed to 80 and started grinding, thought it was a shit game but I was just playing it wrong

tl;dr try classes at lvl 80 on robots in pvp lobby, play something you enjoy and don't think about viability,

Level cap isn't locked as far as I know. Everyone, HoT or not, is capped at 80. Masteries (the gold icon things next to some peoples names) are mostly unique to HoT maps and convenience things, but separate from levels.

The guardian is a mixture of multiple GW1 professions, mostly warrior and monk. The tie to ritualist was spirit weapons but those were thrown in as minions instead of weapon spells.

First we should realize ArenaNet's vision for each spirit weapon.

Clearly minions aren't working out. Base guardian has only one trait after the whole traitline rework that relates to spirit weapons and it is a grandmaster trait of all things, enabling spirit weapons to cause burning damage. Guardian was not meant to be a minion profession, not base guardian anyways, and dropping important utility skills for weak summons will never work. Often times people complain that the revenant has stolen the boon distribution role from the guardian, it doesn't have to be that way.

How the fuck is necro nerfed? Is the 30 sec life span on jagged horrors even that big of a deal?

Things like spirit weapons and tomes are more reasons why this game needs less simlutaneously active trait lines (3 is retarded given how ugly and passive it makes the combat) and more investment in just a single "elite" line which provides a unique class mechanic twist and doesn't have to lock players out of interesting build variety or meta abilities until max fucking level. Zeal could just give guards and f4 which contains a pool of spirit weapons that act as engineer kits with a short cooldown and maybe a resource gimmick like the ele conjured weapons (except unlimited duration and no cost on autoattack) instead of passive trash like minions or venoms. Same concept could work for tomes. The lines could even have their own line-restricted weapons too given how many there are and how few are ultimately used. It'd be easier to just pair weapons and sets up with lines that match their functions.

I dunno, but the whole gimmick is using lich form solely for the skill Mark of Horror because the necro ends up with an army of passive bleed generators. In essence, the scenario is basically the same thing as using the guardian full-heal tome only for the 5 skill which allowed the party to tank the jade squid boss without normally sufficient AR (when that was a thing). Look at what happened to tomes. This game is a joke with its skill bloat. Mark of Horror should be its own thing, but people are butthurt over the flavor implications.
