Valorheart is pretty good against greatshields.

You can both attack and defend at the same time using it, leaving you to be on the defensively constantly. Unless you are using a spear and can turtlepoke accurately between the block frames of a VH user, you don't have much hope.

You also run the risk of being WA'd, which, through testing, will do considerable stamina damage, even to a greatshield with +80 stability.

In fact, VH's shield bash is guaranteed to insta-break any shield with less than exactly 177 stamina and 73 stability.

Are people playing PvP just that bad, or is Black Knight Sword considered overpowered cheese weapons? Literally most of encounters people tried to trade blows against BKS weapon arts, only to die horribly.

All Greatswords are borderline overpowered now.

BKS perhaps even more so because of the extra poise damage.

I really want to like the Freide fight but its so damn annoying. Between the multiple phases, her hopping around so much and the long strings of attacks she has in the last form I had an annoyingly tough time finishing her off.

Aesthetically the boss is cool but it was not the most fun to fight. Maybe that was because of using katanas which are seemingly awful to use.

i don't know where you got this idea that I was talking about buffing being a different playstyle, but my original argument was that not letting someone buff once before the fight in a 1v1 duel is a tryhard thing to do.

i'm not saying that every time I want to buff my weapon you should back off and let me do my thing, I'm perfectly fine with creating space to do so. I'm also perfectly aware that buffing is less efficient, I just do it because it makes my weapon look cool, honestly.

it takes all of 3 seconds for someone to buff their weapon before the fight. you can attack me while I'm doing it, and it is effective, but if you do it during 1v1 duel you are taking the game too seriously.

For pve:
Assassin starts with spook, a spell that briefly silences your footsteps and makes you take 0 fall damage from any non-lethal fall.

Enemies in this game aggro based on both visual cues and sound cues. If an enemy hears your footsteps, they'll turn to look at you, or come over and search for the source of the sound. If they see you, they aggro. Spook allows you to sneak up on enemies so long as you can avoid their field of view. You can also distract enemies by firing arrows behind them. They will respond to the sound of the arrow striking the floor and turn to investigate, causing them to look away from whatever they were guarding.

A short way into the game, you can access the spell Hidden Body, which makes your character transparent and greatly reduces the distance at which enemies can identify you visually. At the same time, you can acquire the Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring, which silences your footsteps like Spook passively as long as its equipped.

Hidden Body and the ring combined are the most effective forms of pve stealth, as it allows you to sneak around enemies and surprise them basically with impunity.

There's also the Obscuring Ring, which makes you completely invisible at a distance, but this is pvp-only and doesn't effect pve enemies. In addition, the spell Chameleon, and the consumable items Young White Branches allow you to transform into an environmental prop in order to blend in to your environment and hide. Once again, I believe these don't work in pve, but are useful for tricking invaders.

Not gonna lie, it did irk me a little bit that you get sucked into the painted world but oh wait you can still warp wherever just like always. As a game mechanic, it's sound, but in regards to the lore it makes zero sense that you can just come and go willy nilly.
That's why I miss Dark Souls 1's design philosophy. Warping was a reward, not a given. The Painted World was a prison, you could warp there but egress via the bonfire was blocked. If you wanted freedom, you had to earn it by proving yourself against Biggie Smalls.

Black Knight is best for pure physical at 40/40
Hollowslayer is good for 2HR1 HA and R2 pokes.
Claymore is similar to Hollowslayer but has standard greatsword R1s and is buffable.
Greatsword of Judgment has the highest AR of any Greatsword but requires an optimized build for it with the WA up (27 STR, 40 DEX, 40 INT)
Moonlight is long and only needs INT but has mediocre R2s and WA.
Onyx Blade is a pyro Moonlight that basically renders the Moonlight useless as it's the longest greatswords and has the more usable Claymore moveset and is more damaging with the self-buff on.
Wolf Knight is the longest pure physical greatsword and only slightly less AR then the Black Knight with very mediocre R2s and a WA that still allows people to roll out of it on hit half the time.

Option 2 is Dark Souls 2 option where you find a key which spawns Gael or proves to gael your worth to enter the painted world.

The biggest problem of a lot of weapons in the game as is for them is that some just have no purpose. Like obvious outliers like the Carthus CS aside there's too many weapons that are just 'the best' in there class with few exceptions like with greatswords. A general AR/stat adjustment for almost every weapon is needed I think along with similar animation changes like they did in the last patch but for UGS/great hammers/great axes, whips and fists again to make everything or almost everything have a niche.
